To think the amazon delivery man was being unreasonable

I didn't want to answer the door for a delivery, I was cooking lunch. It was a multipack of toothpaste through amazon, less than £10, so not expensive. Rather than just leaving it at the front door, the delivery man went around the back where he could see me cooking 😐

OP posts:

I'd rather that, than the ones who leave it on the doorstep without even knocking. He didn't know what was inside.

Tessisme · 13/09/2023 07:34

Maybe he was new and was doing his job properly as opposed to the more seasoned drivers who dump packages on the doorstep and don't seem overly concerned that someone else might lift them. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy enough to find my stuff on the front step, but I couldn't get annoyed at someone for actually giving a toss about making sure I get said stuff.

Fetch the stones!

😂

Maireas · 13/09/2023 07:40

Were you cooking crystal meth?
You could order some blinds from Amazon.

I wasn't complaining because of the length of time it would have taken to open the door or because I thought the kitchen would set on fire after leaving the pan for 10 seconds, it was simply because I had ignored the door because I didn't want to answer the door, which I thought was obvious by my OP but I guess not, and the rudeness of going round the back and unlocking the gate and seeing me in my kitchen, when they usually just leave it on the front step. And it was the embarrassment of them knowing I knew they'd caught me ignoring them. And if it was expensive, they would have wanted a passcode.

You were embarrassed being caught ignoring them, so maybe don't ignore them? It only takes a minute to answer the door.

We often have packages left round the back, maybe he thought it would be safer there.

Natbro · 13/09/2023 07:52

Ive never heard of anyone ordering items to their house and then ignoring the delivery on purpose 😅

maybe online shopping is not for you? And what did you think was going to happen when an item is ordered to you house? Lmaooo

some people are mad honestly 🤦‍♂️😅

Killingmytime · 13/09/2023 07:52

Id be happy if my driver did this!
yabu. Drivers have to deliver their parcels.
why should he leave it on the steps when you’re in?

Skybluecoat · 13/09/2023 08:07

Wonderwhyibother · 13/09/2023 06:05

So you ordered something, then couldn't be bothered to answer the door because cooking your precious meal was more inportant and then decided to complain on here hoping to get sympathy because the delivery driver did their job.

You are a complete cock womble.

Delivery drivers lives are utter shite with the pressure they are under to get parcels (and the sheer amount) delivered in time. Had it not arrived when it stated no doubt you'd be spouting off about that too. Give your head a damn wobble and stop making other people's lives difficult.

This just about sums it up for me.

@sparkleshin can you try to explain why this was such a big deal for? Clearly most posters don’t understand what your problem is. Does that happen to you quite often?

HerVagestyTheQueef · 13/09/2023 08:07

Your delivery driver had the the temerity to deliver a parcel you'd ordered for delivery?
What is the world coming to? 🙄

Tumbleweed101 · 13/09/2023 08:10

Yes, there might be more. It's house spider breeding season so they are on the move to find mates and then somewhere to spend the cold winter months.

millymog11 · 13/09/2023 08:14

It is not unreasonable. A lot of these delivery drivers have probably been hit by the consequences of packages being stolen from front door steps. There is also a place where you can state your preferences regarding where to leave packages on the amazon website at the order stage of the purchase

Fingeronthebutton · 13/09/2023 08:18

OP. I think you’ll get more sympathy ( not that you deserve it) if you post this on Gransnet. The oldies ( and I am one ) love a rant about deliveries, it makes their day.

Oh no! He saw you in your kitchen! And you’re embarrassed because you didn’t answer the door? I’d be asking for him to be sacked for causing so much distress.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 13/09/2023 08:21

This is on my list of shit that didn't happen . Try harder next time

ZadocPDederick · 13/09/2023 08:23

Don't you think it was a bit rude to ignore the door? It's not as if he was there for his benefit.

Onemonthtofindandbuy · 13/09/2023 08:24

Op, I’m one of those people MN finds odd, in that I hate answering the door if I’m not expecting anyone, but even I find it really bizarre that you didn’t want to answer the door for a delivery. Surely you were expecting it, Amazon are really good at letting you know when a parcel is arriving. The driver was just wanting to be sure you got your parcel and no one nicked it off your doorstep. They are really pushed for time, just open the door next time.

FUPAgirl · 13/09/2023 08:28

OP have you any idea how ridiculous you are being? You ordered an item then rudely did not respond to the delivery driver. The driver therefore tried to leave the package in a safe spot and you are angry about that, because it was a cheap order - and somehow you expect the driver to know that?

To some having their toothpaste stolen would be a nightmare btw!

Yeah, I suppose it is pretty out there to imagine that an Amazon delivery man didn't just dump the parcel on the doorstep and run away!

AbbeyGailsParty · 13/09/2023 08:38

Don’t order stuff online if you don’t want to open the door for delivery?

CrunchyCarrot · 13/09/2023 08:41

The Amazon delivery drivers I have here do a variety of things, one bangs on the front windows to get my attention (there's a doorbell, but he doesn't use that!), another always goes to the back door and bangs on that. Another does nothing and just leaves the parcel propped up by either the front or back door. Many times I don't go to the door as it takes me awhile to get there, and by then they've gone!

No I don't think it's unreasonable for the driver to go to the back, he's just trying to drop off the parcel.

Maverickess · 13/09/2023 08:44

and the rudeness of going round the back and unlocking the gate and seeing me in my kitchen, when they usually just leave it on the front step.

Rudeness?! Trying to get a parcel to you that you have ordered to be delivered, to your home, is rude?

And it was the embarrassment of them knowing I knew they'd caught me ignoring them.

You were embarrassed because he 'caught' you ignoring him? Why? You clearly have zero respect for this delivery driver so why care that he caught you ignoring him?
He wasn't out to get you in any way - just deliver a parcel you'd ordered safely, he didn't come round the back to deliberately catch you out and embarrass you, he came round the back to deliver the parcel to a safer place than leaving it on the step so you actually got it and it didn't get nicked - which then you'd have likely complained about.

You are embarrassed, because of something you chose to do for whatever reason, that's on you, not him - take some responsibility for your own actions and feelings instead of trying to embellish a non incident and blame the delivery man, his job is to deliver parcels safely to the address they've been ordered to, which he did, not take the blame for your actions and feelings because you can't and clearly feel he's fair game because he's customer facing!

Defiantjazz · 13/09/2023 08:45

My Amazon delivery guy just leaves packages by the front door/porch. Just as well really as I’m at work most of the day.

I think you are unreasonable to think he somehow knows it’s just toothpaste though.

teraculum29 · 13/09/2023 08:57

Thought that you will tell the story about the dodgy amazon driver (that in my area is quite a few) but this guy was doing his job.

If you dont want amazon drivers drop parcels to your address order them to the nearest pick up point.

LT1982 · 13/09/2023 08:59

Gettingbysomehow · 12/09/2023 16:22

My Amazon driver just tosses my parcels in the rose bush even if I've left the front door open for him. I have scars on my arm from retrieving them Why can't he throw them in the lavendar?

Genuinely not sure if this is a joke or not

GoryBory · 13/09/2023 09:00

YANBU I wouldn’t like someone coming into my back garden.

You may have been in the shower or on the toilet etc which mean you couldn’t come to the door.

If they don’t want to leave it on the doorstep then they should just take it back with them and then you go and collect it from them.

I would have just answered the door.
You we’re only cooking.

You can choose where your parcel goes if you’re not in and so I’d check you’ve not set this to the back door.
