To think the amazon delivery man was being unreasonable

sparkleshin · 12/09/2023 16:00

I didn't want to answer the door for a delivery, I was cooking lunch. It was a multipack of toothpaste through amazon, less than £10, so not expensive. Rather than just leaving it at the front door, the delivery man went around the back where he could see me cooking 😐

Because on the extremely minuscule chance this is real, there isn’t any other reason why anyone normal would find seeing you cooking stressful, unless you routinely cook in the nude.

I wasn't complaining because of the length of time it would have taken to open the door or because I thought the kitchen would set on fire after leaving the pan for 10 seconds, it was simply because I had ignored the door because I didn't want to answer the door, which I thought was obvious by my OP but I guess not, and the rudeness of going round the back and unlocking the gate and seeing me in my kitchen, when they usually just leave it on the front step. And it was the embarrassment of them knowing I knew they'd caught me ignoring them. And if it was expensive, they would have wanted a passcode.

And it was the embarrassment of them knowing I knew they'd caught me ignoring them.

Then you shouldn't have ignored them!

readbooksdrinktea · 12/09/2023 23:00

And it was the embarrassment of them knowing I knew they'd caught me ignoring them.

You made the choice to ignore them though! This can't be real.

RichardsGear · 12/09/2023 23:05

Well I've had the hassle tonight of sorting out a refund because the Amazon delivery driver left my parcel outside God knows whose house, as evidenced by a photo showing it shoved behind someone's wheelie bin, outside someone's house, fuck knows where. So be glad you've got your toothpaste!

FOJN · 12/09/2023 23:06

Rather than just leaving it at the front door, the delivery man went around the back where he could see me cooking....

He saw you cooking? Oh the shame!

PinkGiraffe1 · 12/09/2023 23:20

How big was the toothpaste that it couldn't be posted through the letterbox?

In future maybe just buy it at the supermarket and avoid all the drama. Or just get a lock for your back gate. Or just answer the door. Or make a sandwich for lunch so you can leave it for a few seconds.

I don’t understand your issue. Do you expect him/his colleagues to ferry your parcel back and forth until you’re not in the kitchen and ready to respond? That doesn’t sound economical for most items, let alone toothpaste.

Blueyhasstolenmylife · 13/09/2023 00:01

Unless there is a big drip feed here like you are a naked chef 😂 I really can’t see the point of the story

whynotwhatknot · 13/09/2023 00:31

were you cooking............................ the neighbour

So you think the delivery man is rude for delivering to your back door instead of leaving it at the front? I'm sure you would have complained if it went missing though. Or should he have not tried to find a safe place to leave it? Another reason for you to complain. However, all you have to complain about is that you were caught out being rude and ignoring your doorbell and wasting his time

viques · 13/09/2023 01:02

So next time wear an apron, cooking naked is only going to get people talking!

Whats that? She wasn’t naked?Just cooking……….

I would find it annoying if a delivery person didn't just leave things at my front door, they all do, but I guess it must go with the area. Most of them don't even knock or ring the bell, I mainly know something has been delivered when I get the delivery email!

But they wouldn't be unreasonable to want to give the parcel to an actual person.

@DoubleTequilaSunrise i wonder if each area has their own training? Around here they knock the door like they're trying to get through it!!

@sparkleshin what were you cooking??

you're lucky if you get a sandwich thrown at you at lunchtime here!!

you were rude not to answer the door, they really don't have the time to piss about at each delivery. They're not mind readers, they just have to choose 'the lesser evil' when someone doesn't answer the door.

Waffle78 · 13/09/2023 01:18

Did you not consider he might have done just that on a previous delivery only for it to be stolen? If you're home and a delivery comes just go to the damm door.

The ultimate double down! I can’t believe this can be real.

DrFoxtrot · 13/09/2023 01:18

YABU and weird.

The word 'cooking' also looks and sounds weird now I've read it lots of times.

Mothership4two · 13/09/2023 01:28

It would irritate me too OP if a delivery driver came through our gate around to the back of the house. Although I assume your delivery driver was just going to leave your parcel on the back doorstep? Some people don't want parcels left by the front door (I don't) where they can be stolen or indicate that the house is empty (usually).

JoanOfAllTrades · 13/09/2023 01:44

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 12/09/2023 16:05

The horror!

Why on earth should you have have to respond to a lowly delivery man, regardless of whether you’ve ordered an item specifically to come to your home and you’d be entitled to complain if it was taken from your doorstep?

He should have been trained to accurately guess whether a parcel is valuable, or worth less than £10.

Doesn’t he know you pay his wages?

I’d make a complaint and see if you can get him sacked.

😂

I am amazed by two things about this post. Firstly, yes, another bonkers MNetter who doesn't answer the door despite being at home, but more staggering is the notion of an Amazon delivery driver who doesn't merely chuck your parcels over your wall and mark it as "handed to resident"!

Am I the only person amazed by the idea of mail order for a multipack of toothpaste that costs under £10?

Why? Ok I know the high street has gone to wrack and ruin but shops still sell toothpaste.

Distinguishedandmature · 13/09/2023 02:05

Change your Amazon setting to leave parcels on your doorstep...Simple

Mothership4two · 13/09/2023 02:38

That doesn't work for us @Distinguishedandmature we have given Amazon instructions about a secure place to leave parcels if we are out plus a large sign on the front door asking couriers not to leave items on the doorstep if there is no answer but they still do and occasionally they take a photo as proof of delivery of the parcel on the step right next to the sign! I think they tend to be in a rush. There's a thief in our village who's MO is taking parcels off doorsteps.

Many years ago we had a few Royal Mail parcels go astray which was puzzling until we found out that our postwoman would put them in our recyciing bin if we were out. 🙄

It had been a rubbish day and then I read the comments on this thread 😂😂😂

TommyNever · 13/09/2023 03:33

I assume you were cooking your husband's head, and the delivery man caught a glimpse of the roasting tin and its macabre contents.

You could have just laughed and called out, "Relax, it's not real!! I come from the planet Heptepechai, we celebrate Halloween on this day!"

Anderson2018 · 13/09/2023 03:44

you are horribly rude to ignore the delivery man, you know you are making their job harder and adding more time onto their day by not feeling like answering the door. What is wrong with you? You sound completely up your own arse, have some respect for others!!
