To think the amazon delivery man was being unreasonable

sparkleshin · 12/09/2023 16:00

I didn't want to answer the door for a delivery, I was cooking lunch. It was a multipack of toothpaste through amazon, less than £10, so not expensive. Rather than just leaving it at the front door, the delivery man went around the back where he could see me cooking 😐

I honestly don’t know how some people cope with life.

Zingy123 · 12/09/2023 16:47

Don't order stuff if you don't want to answer your door. How weird.

VeridicalVagabond · 12/09/2023 16:49

I'm always grateful the hilarious lengths Amazon drivers go to deliver my parcels to me, I'm sometimes on a client call when they ring the bell and can't come to the door and I've had all sorts of interesting hiding places used.

My favourite was the one who went over the back gate and then tentatively placed the parcel between the paws of my dog who was lying on the back deck, then marked it "handed to resident".

DarkDarkNight · 12/09/2023 16:51

You were rude not to just answer the door. He wasn’t to know it was something fairly inconsequential and cheap, it could have been something very valuable or something you needed in a hurry.

He did his job, you’d be complaining if he left it somewhere and it got lost or stolen.

jc12689 · 12/09/2023 16:52

Were you cooking in the nude or something? Or were you up to something else in the kitchen 🤔

BananaSlug · 12/09/2023 16:55

Not this but I had an amazon man walk past my front door not knock and throw my parcel through my living room window 🫣

SoRainbowRhythms · 12/09/2023 16:56

What an absolute pervert.

MyHornCanPierceTheSky · 12/09/2023 17:00

EvilElsa · 12/09/2023 16:24

He saw you cooking?! 😱
How will you ever recover?

I should have known you'd support the evil behaviour of the delivery man with a name like @EvilElsa....👹 the evil plotting that will have went on awaiting the op to start cooking so he could look with his eyes at her!!

latetothefisting · 12/09/2023 17:05

going against the grain but depending on the layout of your house I can see why you'd be annoyed, if he literally had to, for example, open a gate and go through into your back garden then that's clearly your private property and not appropriate for anyone to randomly access without permission - for deliveries, gas inspectors, anyone! Yeah you were just cooking this time but if you'd been sunbathing in your back garden or shagging in the kitchen or getting changed or crying for whatever reason, (all of which its reasonable to expect privacy in your own home!) you don't expect someone to be there!

I've actually had a similar thing from amazon, they somehow got over my back gate (which has 2 locks and is nearly 7 feet high!) and then into my shed in order to put a parcel there, whereas it would have been just as safe behind the bin in the side access (where literally every single other one of my amazon parcels have been left!) - it made me feel really uncomfortable to know that someone had effectively broken into my garden while I was out and I was worried that they were taking the opportunity to see how easy it would be to break into the house. I actually tried to contact amazon to ask how on earth they got in and why but couldn't get any sense out of them.

For those saying it's okay, okay it's daytime at the moment, but in 2 months it'll be dark by 4pm - would you really be happy if you were alone in your house (particularly if you lived alone) and suddenly looked up to see a random man staring in your back window? Because it would scare the crap out of me!

However if there is no real cut off between your front/back so he could, for example have just been going round the side of the house to check if there was a shed or a bin he could hide the parcel behind (which I think they're supposed to do if possible rather than just leaving it propped against the front door for anyone to nick, after all HE didn't know it was just toothpaste!) then that's fair enough of him.

I think you've been too honest in your OP so people are jumping on the bandwagon to slate you for not answering the door - if you'd said you didn't hear it or were in the shower and then saw someone standing in your back garden I bet you'd have got different responses!

Spirallingdownwards · 12/09/2023 17:06

Is this where you say you were cooking meth and are now worried you will be reported?

Pebblesontheside · 12/09/2023 17:06

I work in customer care and the amount of people that moan when a parcel has been left perfectly safely on their front step is unbelievable.
The poor delivery people cannot win.

Butterkist8 · 12/09/2023 17:16

So you want the convenience of home delivery but can't be ar*ed to open the door for it?

Jeez!

zingally · 12/09/2023 17:16

You wanted something delivered, but then wouldn't take it in? How bizarre. Next time get it delivered to an Amazon locker, where you can collect it at the exact 30 second interval your little heart desires.

I can only assume you live in an average sized house, where your kitchen is 15 steps from your front door? And you couldn't step away from the cooking for the 30 seconds it would take to open the door, hold your hand out, say thanks, close the door and walk the 15 steps back to your kitchen?

What a weird, miserable world some people chose to live in.

loislovesstewie · 12/09/2023 17:19

Poor delivery driver; damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

C1N1C · 12/09/2023 17:20

Delivery guy hands me my package.

In other news, water is wet!

Itick8outof10boxes · 12/09/2023 17:21

Total bollocks or OP has problems, what the fuck has cooking got to do with anything?

What are the 8 out of 10 boxes that you tick?

@VeridicalVagabond - that made me giggle. Technically dog is a resident so hey ho. I admire the deliver's thinking . Oh that has made me laugh.

As long as it wasn't a massive parcel of sausages - I suspect you got the parcel. 😁

ohtowinthelottery · 12/09/2023 17:31

If I'm cooking and someone rings the doorbell, I just flick the gas off on the hob and ...............answer the door. It's not difficult.
The poor guy was just doing his already difficult job and you managed to delay him further because you cba to answer the door. No wonder they give up and go home without bothering to deliver all their parcels.
How about you all make the poor delivery drivers jobs easier for them by answering the door. You placed the order that resulted in the delivery after all.

toomuchforonewoman · 12/09/2023 17:31

Could be worse, he could have seen you cooking up a bean flick. Cop on. Bloody ridiculous twattery.

inthvalley · 12/09/2023 17:33

Noodlewave · 12/09/2023 16:34

Call 101 and get it logged OP

I'd forget 101 and go straight for 999 in this situation. Appalling behaviour.

ActDottie · 12/09/2023 17:35

YABU! Also who the hell doesn’t answer the door because they’re cooking lunch? It literally takes 20 seconds!

He went round the back as he probably felt it was safer leaving it at the back door rather than front door which is fair enough. He also wasn’t to know it was “just a pack of toothpaste.” He had a delivery to fulfil so tried to do it as best as he could.

Probably for sniffing out bullshit posts😁

BitOutOfPractice · 12/09/2023 17:43

He saw you <stifles gasp and clutches pearls> cooking? Whatever is the world coming too when those pesky working class people do the job you paid them to do eh?

@Chowtime you sound a delight!
