It makes my blood boil! They drive their big childcrushers whilst on the phone, they tailgate other smaller cars, they use enormous amounts of petrol, they block up roads, they look threatening...how can people choose to drive something like that? Do they have ha a selfish gene, do they think they are just better than other people so rules don't apply to them, or are they just thick?

(NOTE this is only about town drivers, i appreciate that they are useful in the countryside).

Sometimes, I think Jeremy Clarkson is winning.

I live in greater london. My car is on lease from motorbility as my dd is registered disabled. We went to a toyota garage as we already owned a toyota yaris and so used it to trade in and got the only car in toyota that worked for us - a toyota rav 4, a 4.4, a small, 4x4, but a 4x4 all the same.

It is so NOT a childcrusher.
I never use the phone while I drive
I never tailgate ANY cars however am often tailgated myself,
£40 fills my tank and lasts me a month, maybe 3 weeks
How exactly in my 4x4 do I block a road???????
look threatening - ??????? NO

How? How do I choose to drive something like that? Because of the reasons explained re already owning a toyota and trading it on for a car that suited my family made by toyota. Anyway, bollocks, don't have to justify a damn thing.

Do they have ha a selfish gene? No, not at all/

Do they think they are just better than other people so rules don't apply to them, or are they just thick? - Oh yes, that'll be it, I'm thick and so much better than you.

PSCMUM · 03/03/2008 21:42

tori, sorry you needed a 4x4 for your baby equipment????
bloody hell. what does your baby play with? A full size crane?

redrobin · 03/03/2008 21:44

all this justification....ahhhhhhhhhhhh, must be exhausting

OP posts:
Tortington · 03/03/2008 21:44

a couple of posters writing strangely similarly....and familiarly.
ha ha haa

wtw - you are not thick or stupid by virtue of driving a 4x4

all womens drivers ( except me) become tick and stupid when they drive.

pedilia · 03/03/2008 21:47

aitch- I repeat that many people carriers are the same height/width as some 4x4 but don't get anything like the bad press!

Not justifying myself, couldn't give a toss if you decide to judge me and think i'm a selfish whatever for the car I drive.

Anyone who thinks less of me for driving a rav4 can jog on!

redrobin · 03/03/2008 21:50

thomcat, you sound like you need a big car, and you also sound like you are not driving a tank. i am not having a go at you, its those who really don;t need to drive something so big in the city.

however winnie has three cars so she's quite an expert

We used to travel 250 miles to DH's parents in a Fiat Punto with DS + buggy + 2 surf boards.

Thomcat · 03/03/2008 21:51

Your right I am wasting my breath, just riles me.

Pedilia - couldn't agree more. My next door neighbour drives a 7 seater people carrier and is so much bigger in every way than my car.

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 21:53

hi thommy!

pedilia, i suppose it's because if people have bought a people carrier it's because they have a clear intention of carrying people. this is not the case for a lot of 4x4s. and people carriers have fewer bull bars and are generally styled to be less intimidating. that's the thing i don't understand, actually, if you drive a car that's been styled to look imposing on the road why get all huffy if people feel you are imposing on the road?

But RR - that's what upsets me - it's 'all 4x4 drivers are wankers' statements that upset me beacuse not all 4x4's are the same, and some of us have them for different reasons other than living down a country lane.

I've got a disability car, which happens to be a RAV4, a 4x4, i have 3 kids in it, a double buggy and charlottes special wheelchair/buggy in my small boot. i drive like a mum, not like a wanker.

NOT a justifiction, just some facts.

We have a small car and a 4x4 and dh decides which one he is using that day depending on his work mileage. I forget what I drive and get looks from people when I park the 4x4. I am a country bumpkin but I have to use the 4x4 in town occasionally. I don't particularly like my big car as it is a bugger to park, but I do feel safer in it being high up. I see all sorts of bad drivers in all sorts of cars. 4x4 drivers are just a bit more obvious when they do something wrong therefore it looks loke we all drive like that. We don't.

Hmmmm my 4x4 uses less fuel than my sporty coupe did??
I'll shut up though - and remind myself that as I drive a 4x4, am a brunette with a pretty face long legs and big tits - that I am indeed stupid and am unable to work out that my 4x4 is not the big fuel guzzler that many lesser people think it is!

Kiss my perfect ass

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:14

'I do feel safer in it being high up'

that's it in a nutshell for me, though. so long as cars keep getting bigger and higher you'll always feel safe. tbh the 4x4 thing embarrasses me, i thought the reason we didn't have big cars like the americans was because we were cleverer than them. now it turns out that it's just they weren't selling them over here...

Heathcliffscathy · 03/03/2008 22:25

do you know i really don't get it.

if you are intelligent. and have loads of money. WHY would you want to be seen dead in a 4x4?

funny that no one has come on here saying 'i love my 4x4 because it makes me feel good, i don't live in the country, i have 2 kids, i don't drive long distances, but i just LOVE it.'

because that attitude is INEXCUSABLE. and yet these are the 4x4 drivers we all hate.

it is the combination of conspicuous (read vulgar) consumption in a world that is dying. huge petrol consumption in the main. dangerous (for anyone outside the car) high driving position and size for size's sake.

it is horrible, repulsive and a bit thick imo.

if i move to the country and need to drive OFF ROAD i'll consider it. until then i wouldn't be seen dead, and consider threads like these a fantastic move towards total villification of 4x4 drivers in cities.

superlative · 03/03/2008 22:26

we have a car with 4x4 capabilities. My friend gave me a lift to work in quite bad snow one morning (I am v pregnant) and DH offered us the use of the 4x4...friend said no, we would just to a coffee shop and have a cappuchino until the worst past and we got in to town in her little Ka no probs! Diff'rent strokes!

Heathcliffscathy · 03/03/2008 22:26

ohhhh cros posts aitch
