It makes my blood boil! They drive their big childcrushers whilst on the phone, they tailgate other smaller cars, they use enormous amounts of petrol, they block up roads, they look threatening...how can people choose to drive something like that? Do they have ha a selfish gene, do they think they are just better than other people so rules don't apply to them, or are they just thick?

(NOTE this is only about town drivers, i appreciate that they are useful in the countryside).

Sometimes, I think Jeremy Clarkson is winning.

good post, Sophable

YABU - it's like saying all people with blonde hair are stupid. (Some of them might be, some of them aren't. Stupid generalisation.)

Heathcliffscathy · 03/03/2008 22:28

thanks din

I am a mere pedestrian and so hate all cars, vans, trucks, buses and motorbikes. I am scared the most by 4x4s.

Perhaps I have been taken in by the hate campaign against them and their drivers but I suspect not.

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:31

that's what i think, soph. it's a total cringe.

tori32 · 03/03/2008 22:32

PSCMUM Its not about play equipment, my dh worked away a lot so I went to my parents for weeks on end when LO was months old.
I needed my big pram and carrycot, travel cot, bedding, all our clothes, bottles/steriliser, toys, highchair etc. This would not fit in my astra when there was a carseat in the rear and the pram took up the boot space. (without piling things above dd's head height which would be lethal if it fell on her in a crash).

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:32

except i have a sincere admiration for the i like it i want it i bought it crowd. at least they're honest.

ROFL, aren't those monster trucks hilarious? but what is an impotent male driver to do otherwise?

DKMA · 03/03/2008 22:38

Ok!
I LOVE my 4x4 it is great!
I do however live in the country, I have a horse and all that gear, I drive off road everyday and I do thousands of miles on the motorways a month for my job and I would not be safe in a rollerskate!
My other vehicle is a 7.5 tonne Leyland Daf horsebox that burns fuel for fun and stinks - but I only drive that at weekends - would never do the school run in it

tori32 · 03/03/2008 22:39

Believe me I certainly wouldn't have wanted a car called Izuzu 'Bighorn' for the hell of it!!!LOL

Heathcliffscathy · 03/03/2008 22:39

i'm getting increasingly sickened by the number of HUMMERS ffs that i see in london.

hummers.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/03/2008 22:42

I disagree aitch, that monster-truck is the future of safe & happy motoring - all the leetle car drivers can see straight through the wheels - fantastic visibility. And the leetle cars can park underneath and not get wet, it's like it's own multi-storey. I'm buying 6 of the fuckers.

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:42

but why wouldn't you be safe on a motorway, seriously? if you're in the left lane, moving out to pass slow vehicles (you know, like the highway code says), you're safe.

notsurereally · 03/03/2008 22:43

Got bored after page 2. Isn't this a bit like 7 y olds saying "My dad's better than yours because he's better at football/has hair and isn't bald/is taller than yours/has a bigger willy" -

----come on, how can this be serious ? Some 4x4 drivers are crap, some old gimmers in economical small hondas are crap, some white van drivers are crap, really what's new ?

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:43

you should, Duchess. because you have horses. you need them.

milge · 03/03/2008 22:46

4

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/03/2008 22:47

I could put a horse on each seat and dispense with a horsebox altogether. Multi-purpose vehicle - how green is that?

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:49

on a booster seat?

DKMA · 03/03/2008 22:49

Perhaps it's purely psychological
Perhaps it's because I checked out all the NCAP safety rating scores before choosing my car (it gets a 4 out of 5 - missing the last point due to pedestrian safety)
Might be because I like airbags everywhere
Might also be due to much better visability and less pull when highsided vehicles overtake me on the motorway.

Yes - I do drive a BMW - but I don't hog the middle lane.

I take driving very seriously and as I do so much of it - I do regular driver training days (as requested by my company) - I like to be very safe and driving a rollerskate down the M6 on a windy day next to a load of highsided vehicles is not a fun thing to do on a regular basis

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/03/2008 22:50

Only the Shetland on a booster. The rest are taller than 1.25m (or whatever it is).

arf @ milge. I was going to do that but decided to be facetious instead.

fletchaaarr · 03/03/2008 22:53

OK - someone please link me to the numbers thread so I can decifer the single number judgements that appear.

I was away that week - OK?

AitchTwoOh · 03/03/2008 22:53

"missing the last point due to pedestrian safety" oh well, fuck 'em.

adieu to all you fun ladies, lol at the shetland. i'm off to watch the wire.

DKMA · 03/03/2008 22:57

Yep Aitch - I suppose if I was doing mostly town driving, school runs and shopping then the pedestrian safety bit would be far more important.
As I do mostly motorway driving - it is slighty less important.

alfiesbabe · 03/03/2008 23:22

Unbelievable!!
