It makes my blood boil! They drive their big childcrushers whilst on the phone, they tailgate other smaller cars, they use enormous amounts of petrol, they block up roads, they look threatening...how can people choose to drive something like that? Do they have ha a selfish gene, do they think they are just better than other people so rules don't apply to them, or are they just thick?

(NOTE this is only about town drivers, i appreciate that they are useful in the countryside).

Sometimes, I think Jeremy Clarkson is winning.

Are you really musicgirl???

musicgirl · 04/03/2008 17:25

Listen, I'm a pregnant, unemployed Australian trying to organise an overseas marriage living in cold as f*ck Aberdeen, I don't have the patience to sugar coat my words. I tell it how it is baby!

DKMA · 04/03/2008 17:26

Oh dear - this has all got a bit heated since last night!

I will once again draw your attention to the NCAP safety rating website...........Check out what car you drive - and compare it to some of the 4x4's on pedestrian safety - I think some of you might be suprised - and it would piss all over your 'childcrusher' argument!

Plus for all of you 'I am so earnest and I drive an old banger because I don't care what people think of me - it's not a status symbol' types - check out the levels of crap you are chucking out!

I have just put my 4x4 in the garage for a service and I now have an estate which is shit to drive and not as fuel efficient.

I too live in the country and so am too pardoned - so back off - before you start.

Why do some of you think it's ok to be so fucking nasty by the way??

CoteDAzur · 04/03/2008 17:27

Rhubarb · 04/03/2008 17:28

Aberdeen huh? No wonder you're bitter, I spent a few months there once, never again though.

Well, as this has all ended rather amicably I think I'll go and bathe my children before we go tyre-slashing.

redrobin · 04/03/2008 17:34

dkma

i don't drive an old banger, it's two months old. and gets 5 stars for crashes and 3 stars for pedestrians. sorry.

I'm not a Volvo driver either.

I'm a Volvo passenger. tsk.

DKMA · 04/03/2008 17:42

Well done you redrobin........what about the rest of you???

AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 17:45

4 for crashes and three for pedestrians, the first in its class to have a three star pedestrian rating since the more stringent regs were introduced in 2002, according to the site.

redadmiral · 04/03/2008 17:49

I don't use a car at all as I live in an area well supplied with public transport. I don't actually demonise all 4x4 drivers - I'm just pointing out that, like it or not, they have a serious image problem, and all the swearing and shouting on this thread will do nothing to change that! Sorry

needmorecoffee · 04/03/2008 18:04

badger - we have a disabled bay painted on the road for us. But no, the council don't tow away disabled-wannabe's who park there nor the morons who park up to the line either end meaning I can't get a bicycle in there, let alone a car.and its the exact length of the kangoo so I can't low the ramp for the wheelchair if some dick parks up behind it.

CoteDAzur · 04/03/2008 18:26

redadmiral - Just read OP again and have to say that if this is you NOT demonising 4x4 owners, then I'd hate to see the insult & prejudice you come up with when you actually ARE demonising someone.

needmorecoffee · 04/03/2008 18:27

I also get a vibe from this thread that society and other people don't matter. Its about about the individual and what they want and stuff society and what is better for everyone.
But then I get that all the time. From the twat who parked outside my house, to those complaining they don't want to pay taxes for hospitals, the disabled, elderly, anyone except themselves. To the jerks driving about with extra loud music that wake up whole street. It goes on and on and on.
And 4x4's represent that to me. Actually, as do most cars.

handlemecarefully · 04/03/2008 18:42

"Interesting that you only commented on the show-off one I mentioned. Hard to argue with the fact that they symbolise an inconsiderate attitude to others re safety and our mutual future."

I didn't argue with the other points largely because of apathy and indifference (nobody listens to cogent and well put together arguments which don't concur with their perspectives anyway, so what is the point?)...not because I couldn't. I generally can out debate pretty much anyone - if I consider it worth my time

allegrageller · 04/03/2008 18:52

needmorecoffee is right on there. There's nothing noble about exercising your 'freedom' to pollute, block roads, etc etc.

Similar stuff seems to be being churned out on the recycling thread today. It's pretty pathetic tbh.

Really sorry to hear about the problems with the bay nmc-. maybe you should just paint a massive extension to it on the road.

(once had a neighbour who did that, & it seemed to work, but then he did back it up with loud threats toward whoever came near his 'motor'...)

scottishmummy · 04/03/2008 18:54

i don't judge folk on the car they drive, bugaboo they own, area they live in.life is too short

redrobin · 04/03/2008 19:08

scottishm - your lack of judgement makes you a better person than most people here then...but so long as its a bugaboo eh??

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 19:22

and yet, hmc, your point was that everyone who disagrees with your choice of car was insecure... hardly parliamentary standard debating.

cote, i think you're getting your robins and admirals mixed up.

SM. lol at bugaboo.

CoteDAzur · 04/03/2008 19:29

All pedestrians look the same from where I sit

Youcannotbeserious · 04/03/2008 19:29

I don't know what a bugaboo is.....

AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 19:32

you cannot be serious, ycbs...

Youcannotbeserious · 04/03/2008 19:45

No, I don't....

I'm off to google it now....
