It makes my blood boil! They drive their big childcrushers whilst on the phone, they tailgate other smaller cars, they use enormous amounts of petrol, they block up roads, they look threatening...how can people choose to drive something like that? Do they have ha a selfish gene, do they think they are just better than other people so rules don't apply to them, or are they just thick?

(NOTE this is only about town drivers, i appreciate that they are useful in the countryside).

Sometimes, I think Jeremy Clarkson is winning.

Thankyou!!!

scottishmummy · 04/03/2008 20:25

the bugaboo haters can flame as bad as the 4x4 haters.irrational really just a bleedin pram

frankly my damn i don't give a dear

CoteDAzur · 04/03/2008 20:31

Why hate bugaboos? They don't pollute, nor do they have a bad safety record

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 04/03/2008 20:35

no, but they are driven by twats

thelittlestbadger · 04/03/2008 20:35

NMC, sorry to hear re disabled bay. Just carry on lowering the ramp onto the idiots who park behind you. I completely agree with your post of 18.27

Rhubarb · 04/03/2008 20:36

I have no idea what a bugaboo is and I have 2 kiddies!

Is it a type of pram?

scottishmum007 · 04/03/2008 20:36

redrobin i have to agree with your rant. all the 4x4s I've seen in the towns, do drive like idiots, and the worst thing, that really gets to me, the worst - not indicating their intentions!!! it really drives me mad.
use a 4x4 if you are in teh country and there's reason to, but why bother in urban areas? apart from flashing how wealthy you are, there's absolutely no purpose to them at all in this situation.

scottishmummy · 04/03/2008 20:41

bugaboo pramthe mere mention of them brings some folk out in hives

PeatBog · 04/03/2008 20:44

ah, the nub: flashing the cash

gloriana · 04/03/2008 20:47

I have a 4x4 in a city and I love it.

I haven't changed my driving style since November when we got it, so guess that means that I have been driving like a tw@t in our old estate car, old polo and old golf.

Oh well, at least I have a life to get on with and not wasting energy hating people for having something I don't.

scottishmum007 · 04/03/2008 20:52

it's just more unfortunate than anything else that the majority of 4x4 drivers give the good 4x4 drivers a bad name. if they tried using the indicators in their car a bit more often (actually - do 4x4s have indicators????), instead of thinking they own the road, then they might be better liked and have a better reputation.

Lizzylou · 04/03/2008 20:55

Kerrymum's post Tue 04-Mar-08 14:20:23 re: the size of our roads is spot on.

Our road system is simply not made for these vehicles.

These 4x4's are unnecessary in the main and the smug "you're just jealous" retorts by 4x4 drivers are just tiresome and frankly ignorant.

scottishmum007 · 04/03/2008 20:58

hear hear lizzylou, couldn't agree with you more.

Tutter · 04/03/2008 21:01

haven't read last few posts

but yes, i do think that i drive like an old lady now becasue i'm a mum

when i drove a sports car i had no kids and drove like a young blerk

i am aware that a big 4x4 (i say big becasuie i want to exclude thomcat's rav4) carries risks. hence paying for parking sensors for example

plus i really do drive it much more carefully than when i drive our opther car

Rhubarb · 04/03/2008 21:04

Tutter, there have been too many stories, on Mumsnet, of these parking sensors failing and drivers backing into things because they relied on the parking sensor instead of actually moving their heads to look behind them too!

scottishmum007 · 04/03/2008 21:06

good point there rhubarb. parking sensors, what next...how about just using good old fashioned observation skills like the rest of us.

gloriana · 04/03/2008 21:08

I find it tiresome and frankly ignorant when a sweeping generalisation about all drivers of a car type can be thought reasonable.

AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 21:08

no picking on tutter, i won't have it. she is a 4x4 driving goddess.

Tutter · 04/03/2008 21:08

i don't doubt it, rhubarb

i do look too, fwiw

tbh i will admit that i'm aware that my choice of car is quite selfish. it is bigger and smellier - and in the hands of a less skillful driver , more dangeroius - than it needs to be

i suppose i justify it to myself by looking at the big picture of me and family and how we fit into our communbity and society - the other things we do and contribute - and figure i am still reasonably happy with myself

but i could and should probaby have a smaller car, yes

i just love my car

AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 21:10

but all 4x4 drivers look like twunts in their silly high up cars, gloriana. they really do. the fact that they then go ahead and buy the car despite this self-evident fact means that they just must be a bit dim...

scottishmum007 · 04/03/2008 21:10

oh well since we can't change a situation we might as well have a laugh about it eh! these AIBU threads have to be turned into something positive!

abigaillockhart · 04/03/2008 21:10

We have a 4x4 (Hybrid) beacause we live on a farm. I know this makes us 'acceptable' but I hate all of the judgemental looks when we go into town.

Would it be more eco-friendly to run another car for the odd trip into the city or should I just get a large bumper sticker saying "We live in the country now p@!$ off'?

AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 21:11
AitchTwoOh · 04/03/2008 21:12

the secret is mud, abi. keep it dirty, y'hear?

Desiderata · 04/03/2008 21:13

Abigail ... that is a brilliant idea

Honestly, a sign which says I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY on a 4x4 would be fab. A smattering of bovine shite would also help!
