Found something DISGUSTING in my clean washing

went to put a tshirt on my DS this morning and it was a bit stinky. Put it back in the bag with the other clean washing and went on with the day.

We’ve just Spent a week in Cornwall but I washed and dried most of our clothes before we left so it was a carrier bag containing clean clothes belonging to DS.

the more I looked into the bag the worst the smell got. It stank of rotting fish.

I got to the bottom to find a carrier bag of DDs rocks and shells from the beaches containing 2 mussels which must’ve been alive when they went in but were open and rotting in the 27 degree weather we’ve had for the last few days since returning.

mortified that it’s been sat in my room for days and the smell was horrific Blush

please feel free to share anything disgusting you’ve found to make me feel less gross about my find!!

Speaking of pets has reminded, years ago in Latin America. Dog was digging under a tree in the front garden. Thought it was odd as only the tree and flowers there. As he moved backwards with his prized possession the smell hit me. I don’t know if was a rat or a squirrel, but it was high 🤢

Not me, but my colleague. She was rushing out the house, had different bags and various things to take to work. One of those woman you see always in a rush carrying too much stuff.

She was on the bus and noticed a horrific stink which she presumed was the woman she was sat next to, but the bus was full and she couldn't move seats.Jumped off the bus as soon as she could and made her way to work, dumped everything under her desk and went to make a coffee.

Came back and discovered the stink had followed her. Looked under her desk and she'd brought the kitchen pedal-bin bag with her - containing cat litter and everything. Trailed it across the city on the bus and blamed the stink on a poor innocent passenger!

I'm a private carer, elderly lady with dementia had raw rancid scallops in her food recycling bin during the really hot week we had at the beginning of July. When I opened the lid I nearly heaved, I can only imagine it's similar to what a dead body smells like. Ever since, I still feel a wave of nausea when I walk past the fish counter in the supermarket now!

My brother came home from a school camping trip once and left his bag by the washing machine. Mum thought she’d got everything out and washed, and a couple of days later there were flies EVERYWHERE. We cleaned, moved the furniture, did everything we could think of to find the source. There was no smell of anything rotten or dead or anything but just loads and loads of flies. Brother went to grab his bag from where he’d left it and pulled out a revolting, damp and smelly sock that has loads of maggot casings all inside. Threw out the bag and the sock and eventually the flies stopped but it was horrid 🙈

Similar happened to my friend! We were staying with her eldest daughter in Twickenham. On the train into central London, me, my friend, and her two daughters. My friend's sitting there, going "There's something in my trousers...." She stood up and 'worked' the lump down, and yesterday's knickers fell onto the floor of the crowded train. She, me, and her eldest were in hysterics.
Her younger daughter was mortified. Actually got up and moved seats so she didn't have to be associated with the 'shame' of it! 😂

I‘m highly impressed a cat managed to crap inside a welly! I had to buy XXL litter trays for my idiots because they kept hanging their arses out of the side of the (already sufficiently large) trays.

Glad it’s not just our cat! Ours has had to stay in with a litter tray after vet treatment a few times recently and managed to miss with her wees every single time! Luckily poos seem ok. She didn’t used to miss so no idea why now?

SaveloyDip · 08/09/2023 19:15

My eldest came home from school saying he could smell poo all day.

Had a sniff of his freshly washed and dried hoody and there was a definite whiff of shite.

Looked in the washer and found a turd stuck in the rubber door seal that his little brother had kindly 'tidied away' 🙄

As a teen, I once staggered into the kitchen with a very dry mouth after a night out. Without putting on the light, I grabbed a mug from the side, stuck it under the cold tap and took a big swig. My father's false teeth hit me in the face.

Not disgusting but my fave funny story, friend of mine was chairing a meeting at work, it was a circle of chairs type thing. She had yesterday's jeans on and her legs crossed and was jiggling her foot as some people do. And out the leg of her jeans wriggled her pants from the day before in full view of all colleagues! 😂

Same thing happened to me.

On the bus 🙈

Why would you take sealed mussels from the beach? Do you not teach your kids that sealed shells have live creatures in them? …..

Is this really necessary?

Teaismymiddlename · 08/09/2023 19:58

I spent half of today cleaning out and bleaching my wheelie bin thanks to the heat and a badly tied up rubbish bag containing the trays from the prawns we had last week 🤢🤢🤢🤢

It truly was vile

Have vowed to only have prawns in the winter now

Millers4eva · 08/09/2023 20:00

At a friend's house one summer enjoying jugs of iced pimms. When the ice ran out another friend was directed to the freezer by the host to find some chunks of frozen lemon slices to drop in the jugs of drink. An hour later the "lemons" defrosted and to everyone's horror we found we were drinking pimms laced with defrosted smoked haddock pieces. How we laughed 😩

Teaismymiddlename · 08/09/2023 20:01

Also as a kid I remember my mother losing her absolute shit when she found my sisters weeks old lunchbox sandwiches in the bottom of her wardrobe... She only found them as when hoovering magotts had started to fall out the wardrobe with the hoover banging against it 😂
I've never heard yelling like it in the 30 years since 😂😂🤢

JustKen · 08/09/2023 20:04

The cupboard where we keep the root veg was stinky for a day or so. My DH didn't volunteer to investigate, so I did. Found two very soft squishy rotten onions in the cloth bag we have for storing them, and the cloth bag also was wet with rotten onion juice. All in the bin.

My mum moved house a few years ago, and somehow, when the contents of her fridge were packed, a Tupperware box of egg mayonnaise got misplaced, and ended up in a box of random stuff that was bottom of the list to be unpacked in the new house.

If I recall correctly, it was a couple of months before she found this box of egg mayo again, by which time it reeked to high heaven! Fresh egg mayo is pretty smelly - two month old, room temperature egg mayo - 🤮.

Back from a long haul flight found a live mouse in my suitcase washing its face in my high heels! Not an African mouse, just a homecoming present from my cat.

Smell from behind the washing machine turned out to be a mummified mouse - thanks cat!

Im airline cabin crew. I always put my crew bag up in the last overhead locker if there’s space. It gets quite warm in there if the aircraft heating is on. During the flight I kept getting a waft of something musky and not very pleasant. Checked everywhere but couldn’t find anything. Till I emptied my crew bag that night. Turns out that the cat had pee’d in my crew bag all over some paperwork and the stench was horrible!

I had to give someone a lift to an event once. During the drive there was the most awful stench getting worse and worse. I apologised to my guest and she very kindly said she couldn’t smell anything. Finally I got a chance to have a search of the car and found a scrunched up yoghurt rammed down the back of the seat pocket in the back of the car - thanks toddler !

Almost blamed the cat!

NightandViolets · 08/09/2023 20:47

My parents found a dead gecko on a sofa we’d had shipped back from when we were living in Singapore. Several years later 😬

atelli · 08/09/2023 21:14

Someone I know had a big dead spider drowned in their cup of tea

Iusedtoworkthere · 08/09/2023 21:16

I found a dead shrew in my skirt picket when I was a (countryside dwelling) teenager.

Tinysoxxx · 08/09/2023 21:39

A sparrowhawk kept leaving the carcasses of pigeons in a tree in the garden. After a week one body was dripping maggots onto the lawn. So I poked and prodded the pigeon with a stick and it fell down, splattering maggots over me. I then double bagged it up and put it in the bin. Next morning the bin looked like it was moving. The buggers had managed to get out the bags and the bin and were crawling all over the outside lid. I hosed them off and then had to squish them as they were heading to the house. I never did get the other one out the tree.

Small children stowing away shells with creatures still in them seems to be quite common! My nephew put some in his coat pocket once, unbeknownst to his parents.. they had to turn the house upside down to find the source of the putrid smell...

However, when i was growing up, there was a foul rotring smell emanating from somewhere and we just could not work it out.. after hours and hours of searching my poor father discovered a rotting snake that had crawled into the back of the the freezer electrics (think it was the fan actually). He had to scrape out bits of dead snake flesh for hours....

Why have I read this entire thread?

I feel queasy.

Milktrauma · 08/09/2023 22:16

Have name changed for this as it’s very outing.
i used to work in a school and I went in a couple of days before the autumn term started to get a head start on my admin.
i walked in to my office and pretty much walked straight out again as the stench was absolutely putrid. A carton of milk had been left in the fridge all summer and the fridge had been turned off so you can imagine the smell.
it took weeks for the aroma of rancid milk to fully disappear and I’ve got a real ‘thing’ about sniffing off milk now (when people ask you to smell the milk if it’s on the turn). It brings back all sorts of memories 😆 This milk was so much on the turn it had done a complete detour!!

BloodandGlitter · 08/09/2023 22:24

3 days we spent hunting down the smell of rotten fish, finally giving up and figuring something had died under the floor. Yesterday I was grabbing eggs from the tray from the market and stuck my finger in something wet of course I automatically sniffed and nearly threw up. We had 3 broken eggs in the tray and they'd been rotting in the heat since we brought them 5 days ago.

Fredflinstoneswife · 08/09/2023 22:36

My cat used to sleep on my bed some nights when I was in my early 20s. One night I woke up to the sound of retching... couldn't understand what was going on, realised it was the cat starting to vomit on the bed. Vomited rabbit she had eaten earlier that day.

😑🤮🤢🤮🤢

I removed all the bed clothes.. but I remember still the lingering smell in the room, I had to sleep in the living room the rest of the night.
