DH wants to sleep with the window open

Ok so I am aware it's a bit warm atm, however I cannot settle with the window open. Mostly because I have a deathly fear of moths but also the noise keeps me awake.

Aibu to want it closed?

OP posts:
Willmafrockfit · 05/09/2023 06:06

my window is always open
the fan is on when it is very hot
would you allow the fan on?

Willmafrockfit · 05/09/2023 06:07

moths only come in to the light

hylian · 05/09/2023 06:10

Moths will only be attracted to the window if the light is on. Just open it when you turn off the lights.

sparklefresh · 05/09/2023 06:44

Curtains/net for the bugs. Earplugs for the noise.

sparklefresh · 05/09/2023 06:45

I couldn't sleep with the window closed. I need to breathe fresh air!

CeriB82 · 05/09/2023 06:49

Does anyone have a link for this net, tried and tested?

im shit scared of spiders too. They are HUGE

Are screens not a normal thing in the UK?

No. Unheard of.

I think they could be life changing for some people here though!!

I’m an open window-er. Love the fresh air. Love hearing the hum of the city outside.

TicTacNicNak · 05/09/2023 06:55

You're not being unreasonable, you just have a different preference to your DH.

I'm a very light sleeper and I live on a main road so I have to have mine closed due to the traffic noise (and noisy people occasionally), and dawn chorus.

I would prefer fresh air in but I get by with a fan at night.

If your DH insists on them open then nets as suggested above, and wax earplugs.

megletthesecond · 05/09/2023 07:06

We've got a wasp nest outside for the next 24hrs so it's been windows shut at night all weekend.
I have literally just been googling insect screens.

No not normal.

Although we bought something to stick over the back door as we leave that open all day for the dogs to pop in and out. But we don’t have anything for windows.

avocadotofu · 05/09/2023 07:08

I keep my windows open all year round. It's too stuffy when they're closed. Could you sleep in different rooms?

Ienjoyedthebarbiemovie · 05/09/2023 07:10

the moths will only come in if they can see light usually.

bellac11 · 05/09/2023 07:13

We have all our bedroom windows open all year round

You need fresh air in the home, its not healthy for you or the home to have a bedroom window shut, think about you sleeping in there for 8 hours, all the moisture from 2 people being emitted.

EllaBella41 · 05/09/2023 07:22

I really hate bugs but when it is hot, even I open them. Just make DH catch them if they come in.

SpringIntoChaos · 05/09/2023 07:27

I'm team DH here OP, sorry!

I know that you are not being unreasonable in your preference (and I totally understand your fear...I'm not in any way belittling that!) but I'm menopausal and the thought of closing any windows at any time of year at the moment is 'unreasonable' to me! And this heat is adding to the situation!

CurlewKate · 05/09/2023 07:28

Net for the window. Sorted.

harerunner · 05/09/2023 07:35

How do you sleep on a sultry summer night when the windows are shut, and you have someone sleeping next to you. It must surely be unbearably hot and stuffy!

CoreopsisEverywhere · 05/09/2023 07:38

Neither of you are unreasonable but you both want different and incompatible things.

I can’t sleep with the window open. The slightest sound wakes me up, and have a church clock nearby that dongs every 15 minutes.

There is no way I could sleep with the windows closed in this weather.

But we have our bedroom window open 24/7 - even when it's snowing outside Grin

Gymmum82 · 05/09/2023 07:40

It’s very warm at the minute, not that I’m complaining. We have to keep the windows open as it’s too hot to sleep otherwise

GEC44 · 05/09/2023 07:45

I usually keep the windows open a bit at night in hot weather, but had to close them last night because of next door's dog or puppy constantly whining and yapping.

Must buy some earplugs.

Nannyfannybanny · 05/09/2023 07:47

You "never open windows or doors". The importance of fresh air change was brought to the fore during Covid.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 05/09/2023 07:49

Earplugs. Ultrasonic fly killer.

Iloveavocadoes · 05/09/2023 07:51

I keep it open all year round. I live alone but if I lived with someone, it would have to be either windows open or separate bedrooms
