Minor celebs wife being rude in pub

cattreatsanddragrace · 04/09/2023 09:28

Went to a country pub yesterday with my partner. Nice little place in the Surrey countryside, part of a chain, not fine dining. Very busy as the weather was really good, some stressed looking teenage girls trying to serve everyone. Kids play area in the garden and a bar in the garden area for drinks. We were sat on the patio attached to the restaurant.

A minor TV celeb, his wife, and another couple were sat across from us. The wife of the minor celeb complained a few times (that I heard).

First time: That one of the starters came out fractionally behind one of the others. (It was busy, there were four of them, the waitress can only carry two plates?!)

Second time: that the prawns in their prawn cocktail were inedible. (To be fair, I'd let this complaint slide as I didn't eat the prawn cocktail. It could have been bad). The waitress apologised and had a new dish made for them.

Third time: and this is the one that got me. The mains came, and the waitress went to put the plates down. The wife of the celeb laughed and stopped the waitress, and told her that "you don't serve plates from that side" aka the waitress was stood on the wrong side of her putting her plate down. She made the waitress go round the other side and put her plate down. This wasn't a silver service Michelin starred restaurant where you might expect such things. Just a standard pub.

So my (lighthearted) AIBU - do I sell this story to the Daily Mail and name and shame?

wow you must have been bored to notice all this

I agree with this.

There’s not really anything to this story, is there?

The only intriguing thing about it is the fact you left her name out of the post, so we now all want to know who she is. This isn’t a story you’d get money for - I doubt you would have even got this many replies on MN if you included her name in your OP.

That is weird and creepy as fuck.

it’s a bit Jigsaw isn’t it 😂

I find when people are acting up like, they become really interesting to watch…

Ciarianna · 04/09/2023 10:51

yawn without the name

BerriesPineCones · 04/09/2023 10:53

She sounds horrible. Poor waitresses. People that look down on people with jobs they consider beneath them suck.

cattreatsanddragrace · 04/09/2023 10:53

Hahahaha posted this then disappeared to do a bit of work, didn't think I'd get any body interested!
You're all right, probably not worth a fiver.

It was Bradley Walsh and his wife, who I'm led to believe is called Donna Derby.

And yes I referred to her as his wife, because I didn't have a clue who she was and didn't think anyone else would. He is the more famous so that is how it goes, I'm not being sexist.

And to those of you who said I'm boring or gossipy for noting these obvious interactions at a table directly in front of me...yep, I'm a gossip. Live freely in the knowledge that you're a better and more holier person than I :)

YES share!

Physicstruck · 04/09/2023 10:55

Have you listened to the Jon Ronson podcast ‘so you’ve been publically shamed?’
I know we’re not fans of JR on Mumsnet, but it really is a terrifying reminder of how easy it is to destroy someone’s life on social media. You might get £1000 to ruin someone’s life. Is it worth it? You have to think you might be the first, and if she has form loads of others will come out of the woodwork to pile on. It’s not good behaviour of her, but is it worthy of what could happen? I wouldn’t.

Physicstruck · 04/09/2023 10:56

Oh you did it anyway. For free. Everyone’s a loser then 🤷‍♀️

Good on you for actually naming! I didn't think you would! Barney Walsh is as irritating as thrush so he obviously gets it from his mother! All makes sense now!

flapjackfairy · 04/09/2023 10:57

I would consider Bradley Walsh a bit more than a minor celebrity myself !

Yeah but no. Sod the DM. More of a MN who's the worst celeb thread thing.

How creepy though.

Don't talk nasty to the waiter and then talk nice to me. Cause I know you'd treat me like that if you could. Muhammad Ali.

BloodyHellKen · 04/09/2023 11:00

The waitress should have served the plate by tipping it over the (very rude) woman's head 😂

Superfood · 04/09/2023 11:01

The idea that an unknown woman might have her life ruined because a poster on Mumsnet said she was rude to a waitress is very funny.

@Physicstruck why aren’t MN fans of Jon Ronson? Not 100% sure who he is tbh but the name sounds familiar.

A bit off thread but I saw Alan Rickman in a queue in a post office. He was just standing there looking gorgeous and no airs and graces.

Swoon...........he could look gorgeous by doing absolutely sweet FA 😳

HufflyShuffly · 04/09/2023 11:03

Exactly. An anonymous person posts something unverified on MN and the person the alleged story is about gets called a bitch, a cow and an utter bastard.

Now we know who OP is claiming it is and it enters the gossip world 'did you know BW wife is an utter bitch?

Well done OP. Morning well spent.

You could tweet her and say she should be very careful how she behaves in public.

Absolutely this

Yes, it’s an urban legend, like all those babies called ‘La-a’, pronounced ‘Ladasha’.

It’s been set in restaurants, bars, clubs, bakeries, newsagents etc, and I’ve heard it about entirely different celebrities in at least three countries.

Off topic, but I've worked with mass datasets of legal names, and no, La-a is not an urban legend.

It's not even that out there as a name, given the prevalence of Neveah etc.

I read that. I was fascinated by the bit about the company that would, for a fee, ‘drown’ your bad search engine results by putting neutral or good things about you online to push the bad ones further down the results pages.

I think the case involved was the American woman who’d posted a FB photo of herself making a rude gesture and pretending to shout under the ‘silence and respect’ sign at the Arlington cemetery war memorial because she had a running gag with her friend about taking selfies smoking under no smoking signs etc, and it went viral, turned into a ‘this woman hates veterans’ campaign, and a ‘Fire X’ page got thousands of supporters, she lost her job, and didn’t leave the house for a year.

I love Bradley Walsh but never heard of his missus. I can't imagine her life being ruined by a few gossiping women on a chat forum.
She was a bit high and mighty to a waitress.
It's hardly mass genocide

OP why did you not say something to her at the time?

I don’t understand that if she was so rude you happily sat by and watched and didn’t say anything but now want it to go viral.
