Minor celebs wife being rude in pub

Went to a country pub yesterday with my partner. Nice little place in the Surrey countryside, part of a chain, not fine dining. Very busy as the weather was really good, some stressed looking teenage girls trying to serve everyone. Kids play area in the garden and a bar in the garden area for drinks. We were sat on the patio attached to the restaurant.

A minor TV celeb, his wife, and another couple were sat across from us. The wife of the minor celeb complained a few times (that I heard).

First time: That one of the starters came out fractionally behind one of the others. (It was busy, there were four of them, the waitress can only carry two plates?!)

Second time: that the prawns in their prawn cocktail were inedible. (To be fair, I'd let this complaint slide as I didn't eat the prawn cocktail. It could have been bad). The waitress apologised and had a new dish made for them.

Third time: and this is the one that got me. The mains came, and the waitress went to put the plates down. The wife of the celeb laughed and stopped the waitress, and told her that "you don't serve plates from that side" aka the waitress was stood on the wrong side of her putting her plate down. She made the waitress go round the other side and put her plate down. This wasn't a silver service Michelin starred restaurant where you might expect such things. Just a standard pub.

So my (lighthearted) AIBU - do I sell this story to the Daily Mail and name and shame?

Oh. Whoops! 😂 See, like I said, I don’t follow showbiz news. 😬

Oh FFS, that was in response to a poster telling me that Bruce Forsyth didn’t present Blankety Blank. I can’t keep up with who’s who and I also can’t use MN properly. 😬

Denis Healey hosted blankety blank. I think you are thinking of Camus the footballer who was on that game show

@MadeleineMummy
I don't think Denis Healey ever hosted Blankety Blank. That would have been something to make the mind boggle ! Or am I missing the joke ,?

waterlego · 09/09/2023 20:22

I could have sworn it was Bruce. So many Game Shows in the 80s and at least some of them were presented by Bruce hence my confusion I think. 😂

I don’t really remember seeing it presented by Wogan. Just checked Wiki and it seems it was probably being presented by Les Dawson during the era when I watched it.

Does anyone remember Bruce Forsyth advertising bras on ITV in the 70s? I would have been very young at the time and perhaps it is false memory syndrome. I hope so.

I can't believe how much arguing Bradley Walsh's wife has caused here.
Imagine if it did make it to the daily mail and Bradley denying he was anywhere near this place because he was soaking up the sun on a Barbados beach with his wife at the time of the allegation.

I can’t remember this at all. I am hoping it didn’t include the ‘nothing for a pair’ catchphrase… 😬

🤣You know, it's really weird. I remember it because my dad despised Bruce F and winced and rolled his eyes all the way through - I think Bruce was smarming about a room of young models in their underwear. Yet when I look up YouTube, which normally has everything on it somewhere, there is no trace of it ever existing. Either my memory is playing tricks, or it's been disappeared like something from Soviet Russia. It was a bit sleazy and very 70s.

I remember an advert that one of the political parties put out (can’t remember if I was living in Scotland or England) and it was showing someone hiding from paying a utility bill. For AIR. Then getting boarded up in their house.

Not so long ago. But I’ve never found it and also wonder if I imagined it (don’t think so though).

Disturbing but possibly not as disturbing as Bruce going full chinny in a room full of norks…
