Minor celebs wife being rude in pub

Went to a country pub yesterday with my partner. Nice little place in the Surrey countryside, part of a chain, not fine dining. Very busy as the weather was really good, some stressed looking teenage girls trying to serve everyone. Kids play area in the garden and a bar in the garden area for drinks. We were sat on the patio attached to the restaurant.

A minor TV celeb, his wife, and another couple were sat across from us. The wife of the minor celeb complained a few times (that I heard).

First time: That one of the starters came out fractionally behind one of the others. (It was busy, there were four of them, the waitress can only carry two plates?!)

Second time: that the prawns in their prawn cocktail were inedible. (To be fair, I'd let this complaint slide as I didn't eat the prawn cocktail. It could have been bad). The waitress apologised and had a new dish made for them.

Third time: and this is the one that got me. The mains came, and the waitress went to put the plates down. The wife of the celeb laughed and stopped the waitress, and told her that "you don't serve plates from that side" aka the waitress was stood on the wrong side of her putting her plate down. She made the waitress go round the other side and put her plate down. This wasn't a silver service Michelin starred restaurant where you might expect such things. Just a standard pub.

So my (lighthearted) AIBU - do I sell this story to the Daily Mail and name and shame?

I suppose I meant he's not A List!

I've never heard of him, so I suppose that balances out as 'minor celebrity'.

I would consider Bradley Walsh a bit more than a minor celebrity myself !

I had to look up who he is🤷

You could tweet her and say she should be very careful how she behaves in public.

Good idea.In any case the newspapers often pick up these stories. I hate that kind of snobbery from people who are usually devoid of any class

Canthave2manycats · 04/09/2023 19:01

@jazzyfips I don't know where you've been!!! Bradders has been in loads! Have you never seen The Chase, Beat the Chasers, Blankety Blank, Dr Who, the remake of the Darling Buds of May, even advertised? Or referenced in the press?!

My favourite thing of his is Law and Order. I was on the same plane as him once and he was dreadfully worried that I was going to sit in the next seat to him. I felt like saying to him 'I've nae intention'.

Physicstruck · 04/09/2023 19:32

@MadeleineMummy things have not changed that much, sadly. Restaurants seem the one work environment that has not quite caught up with the rest, still.

I’ve seen none of the above😳. I’ve not watched live to for a few years though and he’s not made it to Netflix or prime yet😂.

ArcaneWireless · 04/09/2023 20:33

Derxa

Me too. Law and Order UK was grand.

I had quite the little thing going for Ronnie Brooks. He was second only to Lennie Briscoe. And then only just.

If Bradders wandered round my wee town in a little overcoat I’d probably come over all unnecessary.

and then ask him if he’d like to live in my shed forever

waterlego · 04/09/2023 20:38

I had heard of Bradley Walsh but wouldn’t be able to pick him out of a line up. I’ve never seen any of those shows (apart from Blankety Blank about 30 odd years ago when Bruce Forsyth was the host) and don’t see him referenced in the press because I don’t read showbiz news- it’s just not of interest to me.

I’ve never seen any of those except Dr Who which I stopped watching after David Tennant left. I’ve never heard of Beat the Chasers and didn’t know there was a recent adaptation of the Darling Buds of May. I don’t read entertainment/celebrity news so haven’t come across them that way either.

Bruce Forsyth never hosted Blankety Blank. Maybe you're thinking of Terry Wogan (or, more unlikely, Lily Savage 😆)

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 04/09/2023 21:59

Larry Grayson.
He's the Bruce Forsyth one of BB.

Law and Order UK was brilliant. And so was Bradley in it. In his little mac 😂

Canthave2manycats · 04/09/2023 22:00

@jazzyfips - don't you read newspapers even?

I don't watch EastEnders but I read enough crap online so I have a vague idea what goes on in it lol!

Canthave2manycats · 04/09/2023 22:02

@waterlego I think you're thinking of the original host, Les Dawson?

Did you get pictures. My DD was in a restaurant last year, and sent me a photo of a celebrity and her ex looking cozy. I told her to contact the sun newspaper. They bought her pictures and she got 400 pounds.

Classy.

LondonElle · 05/09/2023 10:45

Awww that's a shame as I used to work in hospitality and Bradley Walsh was lovely, always talkative, jolly and respectful was known as one of the good celebs!

I do think it's interesting how restaurants (and bars and fast food / chain places) are the one last place where people think they can be as rude to staff as they like and get away with it.

I have sometimes wondered if it's a low blood sugar thing. Hanger is definitely a thing.

Although, Tesco has recently had to start a campaign asking the public not to abuse their staff. Verbal and physical attacks on staff have doubled since 2019.

I also think that people who feel powerless and frustrated with their lives in general tend to lash out at people who they percieve as lower on the social ladder than them - they think there's minimal risk of comeback.

Social media has levelled up that playing field somewhat.

AndieC1969 · 05/09/2023 12:43

She’ll probably appreciate the publicity. Belittling others isn’t cool

Rjh76 · 05/09/2023 12:53

Name and shame, definitely! Awful behaviour!

Bellaboo01 · 05/09/2023 12:55

It sounds like you were a bit 'star-struck' to notice it was Bradley Walsh - who is a very local boy with his family and then to monitor what his partner was saying/doing. I don't believe for one second she behaved like you described but, also why were you listening and not just enjoying your own Toby Carvery!!!

DottyLottieLou · 05/09/2023 12:57

Doesn't matter uf it's only a fiver. They deserve to be shamed. Do it.
