FIL walking round with his top off

We are staying at FIL's this weekend and he has got up and made a coffee, had his breakfast, had a sit down and read the paper and played with DS all wearing absolutely nothing on his top half.

It's his house and he can do what he likes but is it just me that thinks that's a weird thing to do when you have company?! The sight of his nipples within touching distance of me while he chowed down on his weetabix will stay with me for a long time 😂

Why would an out of shape man want to show his torso off to his DIL in his own home?

The naked top half is fine, provided he isn't wearing a multi-coloured skirt and a leather handbag.....

Slovenly and unacceptable. As is walking around town bare-chested just because the temperature has crept into the low twenties. Save it for the beach.

Years ago I was in a supermarket queue. A shirtless man was holding a toddler who was swinging on his nipple ring.
I was in tears of pain just seeing it.

Of course it's relevant. She can have her breasts out in her own house if she doesn't have visitors, but if she does then part of "society" is in her living room, hence why it's important to realise men haven't been sexualised in that same way. Your opinion is perfectly valid but as I said whether it's correct or not it's how society sees women's breasts vs men's nipples. I personally don't care if men have their top off, I also don't care if women have their top off, but it's not incorrect to point out this isn't a commonly held opinion when around other people.

I would find it incredibly weird for my FIL to be walking around the house shirtless. That's grim.

It's not something I've had to get used to either though. I think it's a bit trashy.

In the end I asked dh to tell him it's not ok anywhere other than his own garden and definitely in mine

Just to put me beyond the pale for those who tolerate/admire the human body in all its forms, I don't want to see my OH without a shirt unless he's on the beach. I'd rather he didn't wear a singlet either. In early days I'd probably accept him round the house in pjs or pants only but not now. The same applies to me. I just find it aesthetically jarring. In front of other people, embarrassing.

As long as he doesn't do the truffle shuffle I wouldn't be bothered
