FIL walking round with his top off

MrsHsGirl · 03/09/2023 09:41

We are staying at FIL's this weekend and he has got up and made a coffee, had his breakfast, had a sit down and read the paper and played with DS all wearing absolutely nothing on his top half.

It's his house and he can do what he likes but is it just me that thinks that's a weird thing to do when you have company?! The sight of his nipples within touching distance of me while he chowed down on his weetabix will stay with me for a long time 😂

Could be worse, you could have compulsive thoughts about testing is they are in reaching distance....

Nipples are hardly offensive! If it was your MIL then yes!

So it's okay for FIL but not for MIL? Why?

Either both sexes can wander around with their nipples out, or neither can, surely?

What's for dinner - a lovely bit of Squirrel?

I'm bloody boiling!!!

BoxOfCats · 03/09/2023 11:11

Reminds me of the dad on Friday Night Dinner. I suggest referring to him as Professor Bosoms Grin

Whether it's correct or not female breasts have been sexualised. Men's nipples haven't. So yes, most would suggest it's fine for men to have their top off but not women.

JaiynDough · 03/09/2023 11:16

Being offended by this just wouldn't occur to me Confused

travelogue · 03/09/2023 11:19

Free the nipple aside - my first thought was Friday Night Dinner too - maybe he's hot, just not in a good way. Has he got a shed he can go to? Grin

towriteyoumustlive · 03/09/2023 11:20

What if his chest pubes end up in the food?!??! 🤢

You could always do the same and see if he says anything?

I'd find it a bit odd and bleugh but I guess his house his rules.

If nipples aren't offensive, then it should be acceptable for someone's MIL to have breakfast topless too - the fact that society has sexualised them shouldn't be relevant, really. It's her house, after all - she can do/wear what she likes - no?

IMO if it's offensive and inappropriate for a woman to show her nipples, then it should be seen as equally inappropriate for a man to do it.

🤣 love it

Simonjt · 03/09/2023 11:22

How close were you getting to his nipples 🤣

I’m sat outside in a budgie, don’t worry, theres no one else arouns! Free the nips

tillyandmilly · 03/09/2023 11:23

I hate seeing men in the street without their tops on - just have a bit of respect when going into supermarkets / shops - they shouldn't be allowed -

readbooksdrinktea · 03/09/2023 11:25

If it's offensive to you what someone does in their own home, the solution is not to stay there with them.

TheHappyCarrot · 03/09/2023 11:28

Oh Op, you've just reminded me of the time I was staying at my boyfriend's parents' house and his father decided to go to the airing cupboard on the landing completely butt naked as I was about to leave another bedroom.

I've never backtracked quicker and was thankful I only got the back view.

Traumatised for life. 🤣

LittleFroglets · 03/09/2023 11:30

I get it OP. I'm not bothered seeing men walking around without a top, ie on the beach or park but hate it in cafés or other places where you eat. I haven't figured out why yet though, maybe because of the sweat you can see dripping down them when in closer proximity.

Kath85 · 03/09/2023 11:32

Unless my dad is ready for the day he just walks round in a towel! Has done since I was a kid in front of friends, boyfriends etc. Mortifying at the time but as I’ve got older I think he is just comfy and I don’t blame him!

QueenCamilla · 03/09/2023 11:33

Yuk. And rough. I bet he performance-burps to complete the look. 😐

CurlewKate · 03/09/2023 11:35

@NeverDropYourMooncup "What's for dinner - a lovely bit of Squirrel?"

With crimble crumble for pudding.

Hibiscrubbed · 03/09/2023 11:39

Ugh, Jesus.

I know it’s his house, yady yady yada, and all that bollocks, but it shows a very clear lack of decorum. Rank.

ThePoshUns · 03/09/2023 11:43

Nothing like a side order of moobs with your morning coffee 🤢

Seryse · 03/09/2023 11:43

Were the afore mentioned nipples wee peperami ones or the bid bad burger nips? Asking for a friend.

My FIL does it too at both his and our houses. My dad also did it when he was alive so personally, it doesn't bother me as long as they are happy but that's just me.

I can see how some people might find it uncomfortable though.

zurala · 03/09/2023 11:49

Ugh. It's grim. Men should wear tops, I don't want to see anyone half naked. It's bad enough in a swimming pool but definitely not anywhere else.

There's no reason to be walking around half dressed, just put a top on.
