Mil and bins

Holidaying with MIL, my husband and kids.

Brought tied carrier bag of rubbish down from my bathroom bin and put it general bin that's to go out later.

MIL proceeds to untie and go through it. Asked her what she's doing. She says she just wants to add more rubbish to it, which is not necessary, and suspect she is just going through my bin to see if anything recyclable has been left in there (apparently my waste sorting skills are not up to scratch).

I asked her not to go through my bathroom waste (not a conversation I really relish) but she continues.

I've now taken the bag from her and am having to put in my car to take home after the bloody holiday.

Feeling v fucked off and just wanted to check - is this actually normal? (TMI but several tampons and DH used condom features in said bathroom waste not sure she needs to sift through either)

My cousins MIL used to go through her bedroom bins like that. She was a horrible controlling abusive woman though.

id let her get on with it if she wants to touch used condoms and sanitary pads. Stupid woman.

I do recycle! Occasionally something that could be recycled ends up in the general waste due to misunderstanding the rules or tidying up in haste, that is true. But I am pretty on it in general.

Just put it straight into the bin outside, she won’t need to know. Weird behaviour. Maybe DH needs to have a word

Tell her that everything recyclable got covered in blood, spunk, or both so sadly on this occasion that cardboard loo roll inner will have to go to landfill.

I am a avid recycler but would never go through the bin like that.

I would take it from her hands and tell her it’s private. I would do it again if she persisted and finally I would, probably shout, tell her exactly what is in there.

And in future I would use her invasive attitude to stay away.

You should have left her to it. She won't be doing at again.

@Tinkerbyebye she absolutely would go through the outside bins too! However I thought a double knotted plastic carrier bag would be left alone. Apparently not.

My Dad used to go through my bedroom & bathroom rubbish when I was a teen. I used to use pads back then and would wrap them up properly, as you're meant to, then put them in bathroom bin. He would unwrap one and go "Eughhhhhh" you disgusting bitch" Unsure what I was doing wrong nor what else I could do with them...

My mother used to do this too when I lived at home. I'm sure it's about power and control! Bloody weird if you ask me.

Utterly bizarre behaviour. Tell her there are used razors in there too, along with sanitary products. In fact, don't wrap them up- just leave them all loose in the bag for her to see 😃

My 1st time visiting my now MIL's house, she rummaged through my toiletry bag and suitcase! It was the only time in my life I had cystitis and thrush and I was SO embarrassed by her seeing the canestan and itchy vag cream. 20yrs on, she likely still thinks I have a vag problem 😳

I'd honestly put even more tampons/condoms in and let her go through it to teach her a lesson. Make it as gross as possible.
