I’ve withdrawn from organ donation register

Purpledogcollar · 28/08/2023 22:04

I give blood and have always been very pro organ donation.

Sadly I have just withdrawn as protest against reproductive organ donation. I can’t support it and am very conflicted as would like to donate other organs.

What are your views and is it a hasty decision (although not sure I would change my mind).

The first unsuccessful attempt at a uterus transplant from a woman to a male would be massive news and there would be a LOT of public debate.

actually this has already happened albeit not in the uk and No it wasn’t massive news and hasn’t been widely reported. The details were in one of the links previously posted

Debating it would likely constitute hate speech & any concerns raised by women would be shut down.

The Pink News article quotes the surgeon who performed the recent transplant as saying:

“My own sense is if there are transgender transplants that are going to take place, they are many years off. There are an awful lot of steps to go through. My suspicion is a minimum of 10 to 20 years.”

I think there’s a bit of a leap between him saying “if it were to happen, it’s at least 10-20 years away” to “it will happen within the next 10 years”.

Here is the quote. How is that saying that in 10 years time men will be able to have a womb transplant? He got asked for his thoughts and he gave them. From the way it keeps being mentioned I was expecting the quote to be something like “within 10 years maximum men will have wombs, I can’t wait it sounds like a great idea. It will definitely happen, and the NHS will bump much needed vital surgeryto perform this instead!”

Here’s another quote

A surgeon from the London Transgender Clinic said:
‘Once the medical community accept this as a treatment for cis-women with uterine infertility, such as the congenital absence of a womb, then it would be illegal to deny a trans-female who has completed her transition. There are clearly anatomical boundaries when it comes to transwomen, but these are problems that I believe can be surmounted and the transplant into a trans-female is essentially identical to that of a cis-female

It appears people on this thread simply don't bother to read links supplied, as I've been asked if the surgeons quoted were even 'real'. The laziness to even read a link someone supplied is next level. They just don't want to know. That's the thing.

How convenient that Pink News can be taken as the most robust and trusted source of information by FWR when it suits, and also an insane propagandist rag by FWR when it suits.

Ha, so true - it's usually derided and referred to as "Prick News" on there, interestingly not now when it suits though as you say

Ah, but do we even know if the London Transgender Clinic is even real, captainjacksparrow? 😜

a surgeon though, not a lawyer - because I am the latter and I don’t agree it would necessarily be “illegal” to deny the treatment to a trans woman, even one with a GRC.

Sueveneers · 29/08/2023 17:11

Maybe we should use google maps to see if the London Trangender Clinic is even in London? Or even exists.

I withdrew the day it became opt out rather than opt in.

I take it you would not accept a donated organ in that case.

Oh my god! The links to the surgeons saying it, are in the fucking article!!! FFS!

You apparently lack the ability to read your own article. Perhaps do so before accusing others of laziness; it does not reflect well.

“My own sense is if there are transgender transplants that are going to take place, they are many years off. There are an awful lot of steps to go through. My suspicion is a minimum of 10 to 20 years.”

Please could you explain how you got "womb transplants will be given to TW within ten years" from "if this happens at all it won't be at least for 10-20 years".

Methinks you are twisting words to scaremonger.

Oh, then the problem is you misquoting
“My suspicion is a minimum of 10 to 20 years.”

Is very different from, it is happening now and will happen in ten years. You also implied that all our laws regarding requiring consent would just be overturned in those ten years as well which is not in any of the articles pink news or linked via pink news.

AflagAhoy · 29/08/2023 17:12

I'm on the register to donate my organs and will remain opted in but I would certainly opt out of donating my womb, if this becomes a viable option in the future. It's not a life or death condition not to have children, I have made the decision not to have any myself and I wouldn't want my womb used by another woman. They are welcome to all my other organs/tissue, just not my reproductive system.

We have the right to opt out in the UK and people should be allowed exercise that right without being made to feel guilty for not choosing to themselves. You don't give to receive. I'm happy for anyone, no matter their choice to opt in or out to have one of my organs if I'm no longer around. It's not a gift with strings attached.

I can also fully understand why women in particular, are suspicious about signing over their bodily rights, whether to the state, an organisation or another human being. The US always provides the most horrific and extreme examples of when these processes go wrong but there was that awful case where a woman donated her body to medical research and then was used for blast testing by the US military instead. And when the Colombian Medical College published a paper which considered the possibility of using brain-dead women as surrogates. Thankfully that was roundly rebuffed but they still went as far as publishing it as an idea worthy of consideration.

Annaishere · 29/08/2023 17:12

It isn’t as if the donor thought well I don’t want them going to someone that won’t donate theirs

A minimum of 10 to 20 years. Yes.

And I've already established that I (and many other women) no longer trust health services/the government regarding this.

Also, do people actually believe a man could have a womb transplant lol

NO ONE WANTS YOUR WOMB

Actually that’s not quite true…

A doctor in New Delhi, Dr Narendra Kaushik, was preparing for a trial procedure back in late 2022 for a transgender patient. He was building on the work started in Sweden (2014) and America (2016) where doctors performed uterine transplants in biological women. Since then there have been over 90 transplants resulting in 50 children – all to women. It is considered extremely dangerous.
Kaushik told The Mirror:
‘Every transgender woman wants to be as female as possible and that includes being a mother. The way towards this is with a uterine transplant, the same as a kidney or any other transplant.’

Yes it was in 1931 and the patient died of sepsis. Men just don’t have the correct plumbing attachments for a uterus.

@ChilliNoodleGoodness FFS RTFT it's already been shown by links and surgeon quotes that trans women having uterine implants is the end goal.
