Just curious as it is due to start at midnight tonight and could potentially cause a lot of chaos. I don't support it.

In this instance people who come from outside my area who do not agree to comply with the rules imposed by an authority democratically elected by a majority of voters in my area.

Anti rat-running measures are not a new thing. They make life tolerable for residents who live off busy roads.

You can do whatever you like but you have to follow the rules or take the consequences. Vote against them in the next election and avoid the area and suck it up in the meantime.

I still don't understand what "your area" is?

limitedperiodonly · 30/08/2023 16:57

Comedycook · 30/08/2023 16:08

But people do drive down my road and I don't give a shit. I also drive down other peoples roads. I mean this is hardly news. Oh and lol that you think the council cares

And why should I give a shit? All that matters to me is that you can't drive down my road.

You don't need to understand. Just obey the traffic signs or pay the penalty just like everyone else.

Just me or anyone? And you don't own the road. I own my house on the road but I have absolutely no say in whether people use the road or not...why would i?

Do you get very angry when immigrants to the UK break the law?

In most cases your local authority owns the road outside your house. Therefore they have the right to restrict parking and traffic after consultation with residents.

We're all very happy with what they have done.

No more than when UK citizens break UK laws.

I know Loads of people who live in ltns and hate them...but still keeps the 'non locals' out for you.

So why go on constantly about 'your area'?...how far away can I be from before I'm not considered a non local?

What's that to do with the price of fish? I keep reading in the Daily Mail about Khan's "hated" Ulez and heard a woman on Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday who said she hadn't heard anyone in favour of it and I thought: "You haven't spoken to me."

Just obey the rules. When in Rome, and all that...

Presumably the people who live on the LTNs are able to drive down streets that people who don’t live on them can’t. We have similar with school streets that are camera enforced - residents won’t get fined but anyone else will be.

I live very very close to the South circular...I don't worry at all about pollution.

More fool you

Theyre usually closed off at one end or if they're not, anyone who drives through that end is fined, resident or not....so if you need to go in that particular direction you can't so you have to go the other way which adds time to a journey hence why some people don't like living on them. Lots of the roads round here which have them weren't even busy prior to their installation. Still the council gets the money from the fines. But you all keep kidding yourselves that the lovely local authority just wants to make your life better.

I don't want people from outside the area

Very interested in this phrase by the way. What do you class as outside the area?

Anyone who isn't going to or from an address on that street, be they resident, visitor or tradesman.

DdraigGoch · 30/08/2023 17:33

Comedycook · 30/08/2023 15:30

But the thing is when you close roads, all you do is push the traffic elsewhere...it's just pointless

Not if you do it properly.

No I don't..

I an really agaisnt taking drssrica
Action that will badly affect people without making sure public transport is shit hot. Without making sure electric cars are affordable.

Without making sure people will be OK.

LittleBearPad · 30/08/2023 17:46

Oh dear. Your journey is longer. It’s unconscionable.

Perfectly possible to buy compliant diesel and petrol cars. Petrol cars in particular don’t need to be remotely new either.

ie People don’t have to buy EVs

I don't live on a ltn. I'm saying why some people who do object to them. Longer journeys aren't especially conducive to cleaner air though

limitedperiodonly · 30/08/2023 17:54

I have a dream that one day I won't have to peek out from behind parked cars and vans and hold my thumb up in grateful thanks to the driver who made me jump back before going on their way at 30mph in a 20mph residential street; I want my old mum to be able to cross the road all the way instead of stopping uncertainly in the middle while a driver indulgently/impatiently waves her over regardless of whether it was safe and he or she was looking in their rear view mirror. I want to live in a world where children can run across the road to the ice cream van after school without drivers moaning that they should have learned the Green Cross Code and ignoring signs saying School. I have a dream of having a cat that doesn't get mown down.

Surely that leads to more jams and pollution and wasting energy
