I've just spent 4 hours and 100 quid in the hairdresser and my hair doesn't look any different. The first set of foils they did didn't show up, so they did it again with a darker colour but it's still extremely pale. The hairdressers were all saying it was nice but it feels like the emperor's New clothes. I feel like I've been ripped off but because they've already put foils in twice today, I feel like I cant go back again! Should I just chalk it up to experience?

I don't understand, did you want it to look lighter or darker?

Yellowlegobrick · 26/08/2023 15:14

I am probably out of touch but is £100 much for colours etc? I think where i live even a basic job might be quite a bit more

DustyLee123 · 26/08/2023 15:15

Can you post a before and after picture ?

Proudgypsy · 26/08/2023 15:16

What did you get done?

Whilst it does seem fairly cheap that's what they charge so they should have done the job properly. Just because it's cheap it shouldn't equate to a rubbish job.

stayathomer · 26/08/2023 15:23

While a hundred pound is not a lot for now, it’s a lot of money! I feel like now we’ve been led to expect that everything is overpriced!!! Saying that if they did it again I don’t think there’s much you can do?

Gellhell · 26/08/2023 15:24

I have silvery hair and had metallic rose lowlights put it. But they are barely noticeable.

I don't have any anonymous before photos. I'll try and get an after shot.

The hairdressers were all saying it was nice but it feels like the emperor's New clothes.

Some definitely do that in those circumstances, where someone is unsure they're happy..

Depends where you are but I think that's a lot of money to lose with no visible change, and what you asked for.

Humidititties · 26/08/2023 15:27

I have a full head highlights, root colour with some pulled through, I pay £100 and they do an amazing job. I'm just outside Manchester and £100 is about average for the area. So not that unusual

Xmasbaby11 · 26/08/2023 15:28

£100 is what I pay for a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry - post covid was £85 and has jumped up quickly! I think it is a lot, but it is not rip-off territory. I know people who pay less but also those who pay a lot more.

I think, though, since they tried to improve it, you may have to accept it as it is. They can't guarantee what it will look like and sounds like they did their best.

gamerchick · 26/08/2023 15:29

Photos?

inonan · 26/08/2023 15:37

A shame you didn't get what you asked for, but it might be damaging for them, or anyone, to do more foils right now?

Gellhell · 26/08/2023 15:39

Excuse the crap on the floor. The bottom half is old colour do it's only the top half you're looking at.

I was going to say I like the bottom half!

tt9 · 26/08/2023 15:51

did they use invisible dye?

Ihateslugs · 26/08/2023 15:52

I had these lowlights done a while ago, it gives you an idea of how low lights look. It was the first time I had lowlights, used to have 1/2 head of highlights but grew them out over the first lockdown. I was disappointed as although they looked great in the hairdressers, they were more hidden when I washed my hair. So instead of waiting 12 weeks for them to be redone as I used to do, I took my hairdressers advice and had then redone after just 6 weeks to give a deeper depth of colour as there were more of them.

Forgot to say, I pay £98 at a small local salon.

Haretest · 26/08/2023 15:54

There's very clearly pink in the top of your hair, but there's a weird white stripe then before the bottom half?! I'd be annoyed at the lack of blending

Gellhell · 26/08/2023 15:54

@Ihateslugs that looks good and more what I was after!

HundredMilesAnHour · 26/08/2023 15:57

I much prefer how yours look @Gellhell to @Ihateslugs (sorry!) where it looks like stripes almost rather than lowlights. But if that's the look you wanted, take a photo and show them (or did you do that already?)

moomoosaka · 26/08/2023 16:00

Most people want to avoid the stripey look though

KrazyboutKillian · 26/08/2023 16:00

I can hardly see pink at the top
I would complain at £100 ( ie any price really )

Gellhell · 26/08/2023 16:04

Here is a pic in outdoor light. Think I may have to chalk it up to experience.

That photo looks nice to me, but you can't really tell without seeing what it looked like before. If you just block your face out in an old photo with a sticker you might get some clearer answers.

Im so glad I have a home hairdresser-I pay just over half that amount. She’s very experienced and does it on the side of her main job for extra cash. Leaves me to wash out and dry after, so you dont get the pampering experience of a salon, but its a bargain!
