I've just spent 4 hours and 100 quid in the hairdresser and my hair doesn't look any different. The first set of foils they did didn't show up, so they did it again with a darker colour but it's still extremely pale. The hairdressers were all saying it was nice but it feels like the emperor's New clothes. I feel like I've been ripped off but because they've already put foils in twice today, I feel like I cant go back again! Should I just chalk it up to experience?

I can see definite pink in the top. Personally I really like it and prefer it to the block colour and the high contrast look. Your highlights are rose gold, I think you’d have to ask for a more vivid colour like bubblegum pink, fuschia to see them more. obviously the most important thing is what you wanted though, did you show them a picture? Did they give you a colour chart?

I'm probably going against the grain here but I can see subtle pink layers at the top which I think looks nicer and much more classy than the bottom half, which to me looks a bit brassy and cheap.

I agree with this post. You can clearly see the pink lowlights through your hair at the top - and looks much more elegant and 'pretty' than the very pink bottom half of your hair. I think because it is more subtle than the bottom half, you don't see the difference yourself, but it is definitely there!

Isobel201 · 26/08/2023 16:57

I pay £75 for my full head of highlights, but I go from brown hair to blonde so its really noticeable. My regular hairdresser is cheaper than most places because she only pays for rent of a chair, not a full salon.

Exactly what I was thinking too

Lamelie · 26/08/2023 16:58

I think yours is lovely @Ihateslugs and @Gellhell might yours develop? I paid four times that recently 😳 and it was only the following week people noticed it!

FadeAwayAndRadiate · 26/08/2023 17:10

This is the reason why, for the past 10 years I have not been to a hairdresser. They're a rip off. I can do what they do, for virtually nothing. I trim/cut my own hair, and dye it too, (£5 five-six times a year,) and when I look at photos, I look the same as I did on pics where the hairdresser did it.

I gave enough of my cash money to hairdressers for some 40 years, and as I say, I stopped 10 years ago, and will never resume. DD spends a fortune at the hairdressers, so she spends for both of us LOL!

I'm sorry @Gellhell but your hair does not look like you have been to a hairdresser. Looks like it's been bleached with a cheap home kit and it didn't quite go right. It looks dry, and flyaway. I'd want my money back to be honest.

Not a fan of colours in light coloured hair either - pinks and light blues and purples. Looks a bit naff and outdated, and a bit 'try-hard.' (JMO.) Was it supposed to be pink-ish?

I think you could have achieved the same look with some bleach london shampoo though. I know I have in the past. Rather £5 than £100!

I like the bottom half though.

I'd be a bit pissed tbh!! What a waste of time. (Time is precious!)

This! Bleach London is great stuff and makes your hair feel so nourished too.

ifonly4 · 26/08/2023 17:11

Do you know what the colour was called they put on? If not, I'd at least phone and ask, saying you want to know what it was for next time. That way, if you have it done again, you know to ask for something darker than the one that's now on.

ActDottie · 26/08/2023 17:12

The only way I’ve got a result from foils is by having bleach in my hair and then foils on the bleach so it’s a blank canvas. My natural hair colour is mousey light brown so not that dark.

PoshPineapple · 26/08/2023 17:18

Have you tried Bleach London Pearlescent shampoo? It keeps my white blond hair just that lovely subtle pink/purple tone.

Gellhell · 26/08/2023 15:39

Excuse the crap on the floor. The bottom half is old colour do it's only the top half you're looking at.

I see what you mean - I can't see any trace of colour in the top half really. I'm assuming you wanted the top to be lowlighted to match the ends? They definitely haven't achieved that and I would complain.

People questioning the price you paid and saying it's cheap are missing the point. Even if it was cheap (I've never had that kind of colour so I've no idea!) you still paid for a service and they didn't give you what you paid for.

Coffeetree · 26/08/2023 17:45

It looks lovely, honestly. Bouncy shiny hair. I'd give it time and if you still don't like it after a few days, go back for an adjustment.

I went to a really expensive hairdresser once before a big event. I have straight hair and I normally wear it in a low ponytail. The hairdresser spent ages straightening my hair (I could smell it cooking) and then put it in a low ponytail. He said "Now you look like Gwyneth Paltrow!" I do not look like Gwyneth Paltrow. What a rip-off.

Saraooo · 26/08/2023 17:46

Sounds like you were ripped off

RosemaryDill · 26/08/2023 17:46

I paid half that for 3 different colours but it was a village hairdresser. I have blonde with 50% grey and wanted rose and bronze highlights. I couldn't tell any difference after hours of torture. Won't bother again.
I like your hair though.

ThreeLittleDots · 26/08/2023 17:52

Babylights doesn't work for a bold look with thick hair. Too subtle. They need to hand-paint.

OMG12 · 26/08/2023 18:03

Ihateslugs · 26/08/2023 15:52

I had these lowlights done a while ago, it gives you an idea of how low lights look. It was the first time I had lowlights, used to have 1/2 head of highlights but grew them out over the first lockdown. I was disappointed as although they looked great in the hairdressers, they were more hidden when I washed my hair. So instead of waiting 12 weeks for them to be redone as I used to do, I took my hairdressers advice and had then redone after just 6 weeks to give a deeper depth of colour as there were more of them.

Love your hair

GarlicGrace · 26/08/2023 18:07

My YABU is for deciding to suck it up! You should go back and ask for a stronger colour and a conditioning treatment.

I probably wouldn't, either, though, so IABU as well.

BadHairBae · 26/08/2023 18:18

Rose is a hard colour to get right. But you absolutely have the right tone of hair for it!

I would definitely say you could of had a better job. I still think it looks nice. I would ask for them to go for a more intense shade on your next visit or find a hairdresser that specialises in your hair type/silver hair.

Riverlee · 26/08/2023 18:27

I can definitely see a pinkish tinge to your hair.

Illbebythesea · 26/08/2023 18:45

Posted saying £100 is cheap?! I live in the south east & of course you can go to one of the ‘luxury’ salons for £200+ but lots of salons charge around £100 for a colour. I’d be pissed off if I’d paid £100 & couldn’t tell a difference!

I had a baylayge that I was unhappy with recently for a similar price, messaged them and they got me in and did it again. I still wasn’t ecstatic tbh but it was better. I would definitely message them to get it corrected then go some where else next time. £100 is a lot of money!

BlowMyBubbles · 26/08/2023 19:50

I don't knownif it's my phone but it looks a bit brown in the mid section.

Tbh if your not happy, I'd definitely ring up and get them to rectify it however they could.
