I've just spent 4 hours and 100 quid in the hairdresser and my hair doesn't look any different. The first set of foils they did didn't show up, so they did it again with a darker colour but it's still extremely pale. The hairdressers were all saying it was nice but it feels like the emperor's New clothes. I feel like I've been ripped off but because they've already put foils in twice today, I feel like I cant go back again! Should I just chalk it up to experience?

I don't see anything, they've deffinitely messed up and i'd want it rectifying still.

Most people want to avoid the stripey look though

Ouch 🥴

AvocadotoastORahouse · 26/08/2023 16:12

I'm probably going against the grain here but I can see subtle pink layers at the top which I think looks nicer and much more classy than the bottom half, which to me looks a bit brassy and cheap.

I agree. I think they've actually done a decent job of lowlights but seems the OP wanted the striped 'badly done' lowlights look (which is a bit ironic really...)

A full head of highlights costs £220 where I go (admittedly central London, award winning salon). An actual cut is extra (£100+)

DustyLee123 · 26/08/2023 16:17

I prefer the indoor picture where the pink is at the bottom. The other picture looks like you’ve had a pink rinse put on.

inonan · 26/08/2023 16:18

It's lovely, OP. It looks like brushed fairy wool, but that's really because of the silver and the bottom colour. But that's not what you asked for, and if you were aiming for the underneath subtle stripes posted by a pp, you don't have that.

Here is a pic in outdoor light. Think I may have to chalk it up to experience.

It's really pink! I think next time ask for chunky highlights if that's what you want.

Do you mind letting me know the salon you use - looking desperately for a new recommend salon .

AllTheTeaInTown · 26/08/2023 16:22

Ouch OP! You have lovely hair but it doesn’t look any different, I would agree. It’s not what you pay all that money for is it?

They do! Some people want the stripey look but most people want to avoid it so they train for ages to do non stripey highlights as default so if you want stripey you need to be clear you want chunks.

HappiDaze · 26/08/2023 16:24

It just looks like a toner in the top half compared to the bottom

moomoosaka · 26/08/2023 16:25

HarlanPepper · 26/08/2023 16:22

Rude!

How is it rude. They do. Some people want stripes but most people requesting highlights will want to avoid stripes. So that's the default

I really like you hair - you can really see the Rose in that garden picture. The colour has definitely taken.

Gellhell · 26/08/2023 16:34

Thanks all for your kind comments. I get really anxious about going to the hairdressers these days and you've calmed me down! Sitting in front of a giant mirror for 4 hrs has freaked me out!

OP posts:
Gliomes · 26/08/2023 16:34

Is it maybe the white/grey hair just not taking the colour?

I've just had mine highlighted for the first time and my hairdresser warned me it might not take well on my most "naturally highlighted" hair. As it was it was fine, but I'd only started going to her because home dye had stopped lasting on them so it made sense to me.

And red tones are often hard to get to stick (though I am taking that from cake decorating and clothes dyeing rather than hair!)

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 26/08/2023 16:34

I think your hair looks lovely op and the other lady that posted.

Poivresel · 26/08/2023 16:35

I like the colour but they’ve dried your hair out probably because of double foils.
Perhaps you could negotiate a free conditioning treatment as recompense.

TheGoodBanana · 26/08/2023 16:36

I can see nice pink plaits at the top, I like it.

CheshireCat1 · 26/08/2023 16:37

I like the colour on top, it’s quite subtle.

Snittle · 26/08/2023 16:39

I can also see the pink on top, so if there was no pink at the top before then they have done it. I’ve always found a rosy pink is quite hard to take / keep and the silver will make it even harder. Did you have a picture that you asked for? Otherwise I think they might have achieved a subtle pink low light.

AussieBlue · 26/08/2023 16:40

I think you could have achieved the same look with some bleach london shampoo though. I know I have in the past. Rather £5 than £100!

I like the bottom half though.

I'd be a bit pissed tbh!! What a waste of time. (Time is precious!)

ShouldGoToBed · 26/08/2023 16:45

I think it looks nice. Subtle but definitely a bit pink. Maybe next time go in with a picture.
