My lovely neighbour (rented property) told me on moving in that she works nights as a HCP. This is borne out, as far as it goes - she’s clearly out overnight but only for 1-2 nights per week.

In the meantime I’m pretty sure she’s running a commercial kitchen from her home, and making her living mostly from this.

Are there any circumstances where this is ok? I don’t want to knacker her income stream but equally I’m a bit worried about vermin (lots of evidence of food prep outside in the garden).

Is the food <clutches pearls> ethnic by any chance?

No idea. Smells great though, I’ll give her that.

I do know she has no food hygiene rating.
Yes she’s prepping food in the garden.
No I’m not particularly nosy but, surprise surprise I am vaguely interested in what happens less than 6foot from my doorstep.
Sometimes MN is hilarious. Live and let live - until it affects me. (and it is 🤣)

How do you know she hasn't got a rating?

Sorry OP but posting on a Friday night does tend to bring out the people who are shocked/baffled etc.
I can see your concern. Food prepping in a garden is a bit odd in itself, and the food waste is a genuine risk for vermin.
I would heavily encourage you to speak with her first though as she may genuinely just not be thinking about the possible impact on others. Doesn't need to be confrontational, just a gentle conversation about you've noticed the cooking and wondered what she's making, then go from there 😊

Thanks. This is good advice. I will do this.

So it literally bothers you not at all. You just want to get a woman into trouble for shits and giggles. Take a look at yourself fgs.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/08/2023 20:27

Yes she’s prepping food in the garden.

FFS. What does this mean? Is she peeling potatoes or butchering chickens? A little info would go a long way here.

ToeToeToe23 · 25/08/2023 20:26

How do you know she hasn't got a rating?

You do know you can search this?

titchy · 25/08/2023 20:28

She sits outside chopping onions/mixing batter/frying chicken? Really?

And how do you know she doesn't have a hygiene rating?

Not sure there's any environmental rules about having food waste outside - most of us with councils that collect food waste have it stored outside!

thistimelastweek · 25/08/2023 20:29

Why is food prepping in the garden a problem?
Is she leaving scraps that might attract vermin? Or does she clean up.

TeaKitten · 25/08/2023 20:29

Is she slicing veg and cooking on a camping stove outside? Or is it BBQ food that she’s making? How do you no it’s a commercial business? Have you managed to find what platform she’s selling it on?

PinkyU · 25/08/2023 20:30

How can you say you’ve a problem with the smell and then say it smells great?

ToeToeToe23 · 25/08/2023 20:30

@devildeepbluesea I do indeed, but I know that private address are not shown on the FSA website, you can search by first bit of the post code but unless you know the business name you won't know which address each business relates to.

CurlewKate · 25/08/2023 20:31

She's not cooking "foreign food" is she?

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 25/08/2023 20:31

I really did t think this was rocket science

*You do know you can search this?

And I'm a bit of a coward and don't like confrontation

Oooohhh quite confident enough behind a keyboard on an anonymous thread though aren't we love 😊

How do you know she's not feeding those much less fortunate in her spare time!? Doing for charity/through a church etc

She's not hurting you is she. Leave her be

Genuinely unsure if IABU...
Gets argumentative when told YABU.

ThreeLittleDots · 25/08/2023 20:33

Maybe she's making food for a shelter or something.

Not sure what the prob is though, nice smells, mythical mice...

Conqueeftador · 25/08/2023 20:33

Can you give us a clue as to what she’s prepping and cooking op? Veggies, fish, cakes?

thistimelastweek · 25/08/2023 20:34

Let's cut to the chase, what the actual fuck is she doing in the garden?

FinnRustle · 25/08/2023 20:36

Wholesale 's'mores?
Slaughtering goats?
Industrial wood fired pizza oven?
Trestle table set up with production line of sandwich ingredients?

Squeakbeak · 25/08/2023 20:36

I could understand if she was constantly bbq'ing in her garden with the smell as that would also annoy me, however food prepping is a non issue. As long as she's disposing of her food waste correctly, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what she's doing.
And as for cooking smells coming from inside her kitchen, that's literally what her kitchen is for and she can use it any time she pleases. If you don't like cooking smells coming from your neighbours, YOU need to move to a secluded, detached house.

toddlermum27 · 25/08/2023 20:37

Smells amazing but you have no idea what type of food it is 🙄🙄🙄

ThreeLittleDots · 25/08/2023 20:38

Ah it's the noise late at night that bothers you, you say. I'd ask her to keep it down, or complain to her landlord if it is a big problem.

CrazyArmadilloLady · 25/08/2023 20:38

Posting purely for the garden cooking logistics reveal.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 25/08/2023 20:39

Just me or does anyone else think the OP didn’t quite finish outlining her story arc before posting? My vote is the fancy gelatin molds that are super tall and decorative.

pictoosh · 25/08/2023 20:40

Food prepping in the garden? I am so intrigued by this. What is she prepping in the garden? Please elaborate on this. I can't imagine it.

Oysterbabe · 25/08/2023 20:42

I think you should mind your business, stop tracking her movements and get on with your life.
