AIBU to give DD this gift? (Lighthearted)

18 year old DD is lovely, but has a definite habit of pinching my cosmetics and in particular perfume. At the moment I've got a v nice bottle if perfume that I got for Christmas which she uses almost daily!

She doesn't try and pretend she not using it - we can all smell it! 😂

Problem will be solved soon as shes heading off to uni in a different city in a few weeks 😭😭. I'm v proud of her, and am really going to miss her - so I had decided just to get her a bottle of said perfume as a going away pressie. A kind of "there you go have this as you wont be able to steal mine". But now a friend has said this is ridiculously indulgent and she needs to learn not to pinch my things.

I think it ok to indulge her as you only leave home for the first time once. So AIBU to give her the perfume?

I still give myself a little spritz of my mum's perfume if I'm home. I was given my grandma's perfume when she passed away and used it every day until it ran out. Perfume is special and it's a lovely idea.

It's a lovely idea! I'd do the same.

It's a lovely, thoughtful gift. X

I think it's a lovely idea to get DD the perfume 😊. Teenage girls do 'borrow' their mother's stuff, it's nothing malicious, it just means they trust their DM not to be annoyed at them. Like you say OP, they only leave home for the first time once! Get her the perfume, ignore the grumpy friend's 'advice', DD is lucky to have you as her DM 🥰

Definitely give it to her, what a lovely idea ☺️

I still remember "stealing" my mum's naice cosmetics and toiletries as a teenager. One of the highlights of coming home from uni was a bath and using all her good stuff, luckily she never minded as I was a right CF! Can't wait until my DD is that age and I can pass it on.

I think it sounds lovely.
To this day my mum and I sometimes get the same perfume that I used to pinch on her.

you can have the bottle engraved at Lancôme if you have not ordered yet!

Definetly get her the perfume.

My daughter and I were the same dress size when she still lived with us and she thought she had 2 wardrobes to choose from when dressing. Half the clothes she moved out with were mine 🤣. I don't mind. I really miss her being here, she moved out 3 years ago.
