To think my son should not be asked to write F*ing poetry in year 1 for homework

I feel its too soon. My son cannot spell and I would prefer it if he was given spellings for home work.

Frankly I think he should concentrate on basic literacy skills and hand writing.

hi am just new on here! i think this is weird that they r getting him write poerty at his age but he has to learn sum where but it gives him experience at an early age

lol.. @ cam

I have spent the afternoon going for a walk with my son in a major london park. We have done no literacy activities in sight. He has just had fun being a little boy climbing, getting muddy and exploring the world. This is a barely six year old boy's idea of fun.

I think that people forget that year 1 children are still very little. They need time to play and time to be children.

Triathlete: The swear word got people's attention. This thread has taken on a life of its own. Its got 227 posts in an incredibly short time. I am struggling to keep up with reading all the replies.

If my son learns the power of language he will swear like a trooper in thread titles.

just one thing to say about thread title: Larkin.

yes...I misread the title. I thought it read 'should be asked to write f*cking in his poetry in year 1'
