Womens' World Cup Final - Where's the PM?

StarlightLady · 20/08/2023 09:53

Just as the Australian Governmnet have pointed out that Prince William is also Prince of Australia, we hear that the Queen of Spain and her daughter are attending the final.

So, in contrast where is Sunak, the PM who loves jet travel? Would he not be attending if it was a male England team in the final.

This cerainly puts the Lionesses in their place; dreadful!

Im a Republican but you really are choosing wrong battle, he doesn't need to attend people have told you he can't attend before his dad does.

And you also ignore rest of post about other sports funnily enough as. You are blinded by football.

Again, what does his dad have to do with him being President of the FA?

Seriously.

You people are all over the place. One thing has nothing to do with the other as Charles has ZERO to do with football.

This is true but don't underestimate how much more funding the grassroots womens leagues could receive with adequate FIFA funding

Infantino is a weirdo, but he is correct there.

WC matters, but the 'in between' years matter even more.

Well yes, but I don't think they're going to suddenly increase funding because he's there, he could be putting pressure on his role but again this doesn't hinge on him flying over. Same with the PM, its far more relevant what he does (if anything) for grassroot sport in this country rather than not flying across the world. Its just so frustrating to hear people giving so much airtime and headspace to the attendance of 2 men, as if they demonstrate how important or legitimate the game is. The culture and media MP went didn't she? She's been a big advocate for women's sport and I'm 99% sure she's been over there for the tournament? Probably a far more suitable role to have a presence there.

Is this a joke?

The Royal Family in the UK get 20x the taxpayer money as the Spanish Royal Family.

The Royal Family in Spain are quite literally the cheapest taxpayer funded Royal Family in Europe.

So try again.

I'm sure there was something more useful they could have done with the money then, seeing as it represents so much more of the contribution, rather than having a day out with the kid.

You seem hard of thinking he can't attend before his dad it's irrelevant football or anything , he can't go to Australia before his dad simple as.

As keep saying you are ignoring other sports besides football, you seem pretty vile to be honest.

The WC final is a huge deal.

As a symbol for women it is MASSIVE. This is precisely why Queen Letizia and daughter left their vacation to attend. They fully umderstood the significance. From a cost/benefit standpoint it makes complete sense.

Look at the mens side in the UK. The last time they were there and won was in 1966. So its 1 in 50 years frequency.

In the womens side, it is 1 in 30 years (WC started in early 90s).

So yes, attending the final is a rare event, which given the cost (flights and short stay) is cheap by comparison.

Also, worth stating:

William could have easily gone by himself for a few days (like Letizia did) and bring his daughter to attend such a rare event.

Its nonsense to make excuses for him there as he was the FA President.

noblegiraffe · 20/08/2023 19:36

I did think as the medals were being handed out and the players were shaking the hand of the Spanish Queen (or hugging her!), if we had won, the place of the Spanish Queen in congratulating the teams would have been taken by.....James Cleverly. That would have been pretty embarrassing.

Why do you keep being conned by these people?

Why?

Its baffling.

The Culture Sec represented the Government.

That is not the same thing as William, who is FA President.

Two completely different things.

Yes but people are also moaning about Rishi not going when a female MP who has done a fair bit for women's sport was present for the whole tournament, which I don't see the issue with personally. Although without a man I guess it's not a legitimate game.

Are you able to articulate why it's such a major issue that he didn't go? The FA has always says he does a lot behind the scenes for initiatives and he spoke to the Lionesses before they left for the tournament. Looks like Spains FA president should have stayed at home judging by his actions.

As said you comment but ignore what post are saying that's baffling.

So this isn't about women's football it's about your perceived slight lots be honest now.

Grow the hell up.

Either post that "evidence" or be quiet.

Again, show us the proof the spin masters no doubt posted.

Until then, you have simply been conned.

Again.

You are completely misinterpreting (deliberate or otherwise) what that poster is saying. It's not that a Royal cannot attend a WC final but that Charles, as the new King, needs to go before William. I have no idea whether that is true (sounds reasonable though) but your complete failure to understand it was annoying me.

ilovesooty · 20/08/2023 19:53

And don't quit your day job is also very rude.

At any major global sporting event (like the WC),

The President of that federation will always have plans to attend the later stages if need be when its far away travel-wise.

The only exception is when games are held locally, so its easier for the person to attend (so plans are much easier and they tend to go to group games as well).

That latter obviously does not apply to William given UK vs Australia distances.

In the UK, we have far too many people in roles because of their class status. And many of them fail miserably at actually putting in the work when it is actually needed.

Thats how I see the situation. William could not be arsed to fly to Sydney for a few days to attend so he made a few silly excuses and covered himself with false media statements about his father.

None of this is surprising to me. I just think the English population should demand better from people in positions of responsibility. William should not be FA President if he cannot be arsed to attend the womens WC Final. This has only happened once in the last 30 years for women. And once in the last 55 years for men (which his grandmother attended).

So your issue is more with the fact you feel he hasn't earned the position and that this non attendance is the icing on the cake in terms of him and the role rather than it detracting from the achievements of the women playing by having no notable men in attendance? Most I suspect are more using it as another reason to dislike William and more broadly the royals, I doubt many are genuinely perturbed that the president of the FA isn't attending- it's not usually a discussion point. I just hate how many headlines it's got- what a surprise men always seem to overshadow things. Have any of the lionesses said how they feel about him not being there?

noblegiraffe · 20/08/2023 20:06

Anyone arguing that William really would have been there but sadly royal protocol prevented him from making the trip need to explain his appallingly half-arsed video of support where he clearly didn't give a shit.

The FA and FIFA don't give a shit about women's football, as anyone who plays and/or who has followed women's football prior to the Euros knows, not sure why people expect differently of him. I don't think there need to be excuses for why he didn't go, I'm just confused why people are so bothered. I suspect a huge part is because of their dislike for him, which is fine, but may as well just say that instead of pretend to be overly bothered about women's football and the affect of him not going on it (not much if anything).

It may have been “just a football match”, but it was an unprecedented one. And they are ambassadors for this country.

https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/nick-ferrari/spain-sends-queen-we-send-culture-secretary-lionesses-world-cup/

What's wrong with sending the culture Secretary who has been there for the whole tournament and who has been pivotal to pushing through some good initiatives and securing funding for them in regard to women's sport? She's also been a vocal fan of theirs for a while. Can't be because she's a woman that they don't deem her as important or as worthy can it? She might not be as shiny or not as much of a household name, but she's definitely done more for women's football in the short time she's been in office than William has. If he'd have flown in just for this without actually doing anything else and been praised for it we know somethings fucked up somewhere.

Why do you keep making excuses for William?

Again, he is the FA President.

Frazer attending has ZERO to do with him because William is NOT in the UK Govt.

What he is...is FA President in England.

And as such, it is his obligation and responsibility to be there for the WC final.

There is no excuse for that barring a serious family emergency.

For fuck sake I'm not your personal assistant. Plus, many other people have said the same thing to you on here, why single me out? Why are you not asking them to post the facts too. Look them up and stop being bloody lazy. You have a bee in your bonnet, over something that really has nothing to do with you. Is your life that simple and boring , that this is what you spend your Sunday doing?
I actually have a life and have important things to do, so again, as I've said, I've given you the facts. You don't accept them, which is your perogative, but I have much better things to do. I really do hope you can get over this all. Good day

It would appear that @TheThinkingGoblin has pointed out that@RyanGoslingsTan has no clothes.

Magicoven · 20/08/2023 20:31

I'm not making excuses for him, I'm curious why people are bothered about him going or not. I don't care if he couldn't be bothered, if it was protocol or whatever else. In none of my posts have I made excuses for him! No one has given a convincing answer as to why they're bothered thought beyond he's president of the FA- and?
