I live opposite a window cleaner.
it’s summer so windows are open.
Every morning his mate arrives at 6.00am and they have a very fucking loud conversation in the road before driving off to work about where the jobs are today, blah blah.

they wake me and possibly other neighbours
up every single day.

why can’t people be more considerate???

how have you asked neighbours nicely to STFU?

Is it by you bellowing “Time to get up, it’s a reasonable hour!”

Coffee coming out of my nose now ! 😀

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 19/08/2023 23:34

@ilovesooty yes I think you catch more flies with honey! Early rising noisy workmen likely to make an effort with the nice sweet funny lady over the road than the cow who screams 'shut the f up!' As some pp have basically advised

Only if you want to get up at 6. Most people don't.

This!!!

I favour a good old fashioned heckle out of the window for things like this. "Oi mate keep the noise down we're trying to sleep" or even just a massive "shhhh".

I imagine it with a thick cockney accent too, just like in tv shows and films

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 19/08/2023 23:37

if you cant use ear plugs and shut your windows can you swap bedrooms? might sound daft but we swapped with our kids as they could sleep through anything.

Rosscameasdoody · 19/08/2023 23:37

WickedSerious · 19/08/2023 23:20

Open the window and chuck the cat at panko.

Do it carefully though - don’t want to knock her off the ladder or drop the bucket !1

StJulian2023 · 19/08/2023 23:39

The bloke opposite me starts his motorbike engine at 6.15am and then pops into the house for 5-10 minutes before actually leaving. Just why?! Do motorbikes need to be warmed up like this?! I get up at 6.30am and that extra 15 mins matters!

As it happens I’m moving, as is my friend in another street being woken up by a cockerel at 4.30am in a very residential area.

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/08/2023 23:39

Bucket of cold water might help 😀

Any noises that could interrupt someone else’s sleep between 10pm and 8am should be avoided where not necessary, in my opinion.

It’s just inconsiderate and almost always not necessary to make any loud noise during this time.

I agree. It’s being considerate and neighbourly. I teach my kids to shhhhh in the mornings til everyone is up. I gave the example of me and their dad not being silent when they are in bed but nor do we stand outside their rooms and talk at full volume.

im always astonished how thoughtless people can be but @panko sums it up nicely- if it doesn’t bother me it shouldn’t bother anyone else.

id go and have a really apologetic chat, quote small kids or sick parents or late shifts or anything logical to explain why you’d love it if he and his mate could possibly try to be a bit quieter? Take a bottle/box of chocs to say a preemptive thank you. Most people are not panko. Most people will say ooh sorry and try harder.

do buy earplugs too though. Difficult to be silent getting into a van.

6 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up

Er….thats written in law is it? Most ridiculous comment ever!

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 19/08/2023 23:52

I feel you OP.

This time of year I have to have the windows open otherwise I can't sleep with the heat and lack of air.

Bloody neighbour over the road starts his very noisy diesel van up at 5.30 7 days a week and leaves it idling while him and his mate throw all their tools and equipment in the back whilst shouting at the tops of their voices. It's so fucking inconsiderate!

I've tried talking to them but they just say "no English" even though I've heard one of them on the phone to a customer speaking word perfect English.

Solonge · 19/08/2023 23:53

panko · 19/08/2023 22:34

You might hate it. But it's still not an unreasonable time to be awake.

Who is the arbiter of what is or is not a reasonable time? You? Think you will find before 7.30 its called anti social noise.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 19/08/2023 23:55

panko · 19/08/2023 22:28

6 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up

Panko says it's a perfectly reasonable time to be awake so it must be true!

ElizaWinter · 19/08/2023 23:57

secretfreckle · 19/08/2023 22:55

6 am is absolutely not a reasonable time to be woken up, especially on a Saturday.
Every Saturday we have a scrap metal man driving round our village at 8 am screaming and shouting through a PA system. I am up at 4am every day in the week.

My god how is he allowed to do that? With a PA system too. Unbelievable!

FoxyFeeling · 20/08/2023 00:01

6 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up

No it’s not

7eleven · 20/08/2023 00:01

panko · 19/08/2023 22:44

And? You can still be awake at night

Well if it’s night, it can’t be a usual, ‘morning’ wake up time can it? Don’t be so ridiculously argumentative.

ginnytin · 20/08/2023 00:04

panko · 19/08/2023 22:28

6 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up

Not to wake others. 6am is inconsiderate.

Aprilx · 20/08/2023 00:05

thistimelastweek · 19/08/2023 22:31

Only if you want to get up at 6. Most people don't.

I would have thought most working people would be up by 6.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 20/08/2023 00:08

Not necessarily @Aprilx

DH and DD leave the house at 7.45. Usually up for 6.30. I WFH and start at 9 so generally get up about 7.30.

Which is why I don't appreciate the 5.30 wake up call from over the road!

Bonjovispjs · 20/08/2023 00:09

6am is a horrible time to be woken up. I know because my alarm clock does it to me every day 😫

CalishataFolkart · 20/08/2023 00:14

panko · 19/08/2023 22:44

And? You can still be awake at night

And it means that whilst it might not be an unreasonable time to be awake, it is an unreasonable time to be woken up by someone making noise outside.

ginnytin · 20/08/2023 00:14

I would have thought most working people would be up by 6.

So you talk outside loudly at 6am? @Aprilx

That's incredibly inconsiderate if so as you cannot know their hours of work, or travel time needed, if any (if working from home). 6am is considered antisocial as far as noise reporting goes too.

Bellyblueboy · 20/08/2023 00:16

panko · 19/08/2023 22:28

6 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up

For you. And to be honest for me.
but not for a lot of peoples

its inconsiderate to have a very load conversation outside someone’s house at 6am.

i get up at 6am in a weekday. There was a van parked outside my house last Saturday with the raid barking and then their mobile phone ringing very loudly and repeatedly though the car radio.

it was my sleep in day - I had two hours of sleep left. I honestly could have murdered someone

ASGIRC · 20/08/2023 00:19

panko · 19/08/2023 22:34

You might hate it. But it's still not an unreasonable time to be awake.

Yes it is.
6am is only a reasonable time for me to be up at if Im working a morning shift. Since I dont always work morning shifts, and more often then not am at work until 1am or later, waking up at 6 would be really upsetting.

Even most people who do work in the morning dont wake up at 6.

AlwaysJumping · 20/08/2023 00:20

panko · 19/08/2023 22:28

6 is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up

Er nope. And it’s a choice
