Might be a controversial topic. I'm all for people doing what makes them feel good and confident, however, is it just me that thinks the trend of dying/microblading eyebrows looks ridiculous? It looks so fake, especially on those with fairer hair and go for a really dark eyebrow colour. I just can't understand why people think it looks attractive.

Laminating them is the funniest 😂

Yeah I don't get the laminated brow look. I love when people have beautiful fluffy brows and brush the middle bits up, but the straight up lamination with what looks like shiny nail polish on top is awful.

NEmama · 17/08/2023 21:41

Yanbu it looks shit.

Nachtvlinder · 17/08/2023 21:43

Whilst I don't like the latest thick unnatural brows, I'd rather go for one than a botox/lip-filler trout pout that so many women (and younger) have these days. It's astonishing how this has caught on so quickly. I hate the idea that young impressionable girls are seeing their mums etc., all wanting to go for this look.

On a recent Women's Hour interview, a 15yo teen was having them done so that she could gain more confidence, but it soon became addictive, that she ended up having them re-filled too quickly, that one day her lip swelled to the nose area. The interviewer asked if she regretted having them done; she said she didn't and that she would space out her appointments longer. This is a sad case of not knowing when a good thing turns bad, and that addiction has firmly held its grip on this teen.

There are so many women all wanting to look like influencers and have these cloned look with the long highlighted hair, body-tight clothes, long gel nails and super ridiculous spidery eyelashes.

Sure, I'm going to be slated on here, but then again, I don't spend anytime/money on my face/hair/nails other than the necessary basic grooming that one is required.

DilemmaDelilah · 17/08/2023 22:11

I had my eyebrows done (powderbrows) before I started chemotherapy. I went for a light colour (my hair, when I have any, I don't at the moment, is mostly grey) and as natural a shape as possible, but they still felt very dark and unnatural to start with, faded a bit now thank goodness! For me it was about confidence and not wanting to look like a 'victim' of cancer.

In ten or twenty years time people are going to look back at photos of girls now and wonder how on earth they thought they looked good! Just awful! I don't understand why they can't look at actresses for examples of what looks good - I can't think of any that have gone for the huge caterpillar eyebrows - rather than copying the plastered with make up Groucho Marx look!

However, I am old and rarely wear anything other than powder eyeliner, mascara (when I have eyelashes) and lipstick any more. I do remember wearing at least three colours of shimmery eyeshadow at the same time when I was in my twenties, plus foundation, blusher etc. etc. so perhaps I was just as bad but in a different way at that time.

Okaygoahead · 17/08/2023 22:19

I know we're not supposed to question other people's choices and to each her own etc etc but jesus it looks awful

ImthatBoleyngirl · 17/08/2023 22:20

They're still better than those godamn awful skinny brows we had in the 90s/00s! Now they were truly horrendous!!

They'll be back. I remember as a teenager cringing at the big bushy eyebrows some of the older Hollywood women had back then and how everyone with skinny brows was so much better. We are now back to bushy, so skinny is just around the corner.

StupidHip · 17/08/2023 22:24

I have my very fair brows tinted once in a while. I think my face does look better when I have visible brows but I feel like a clown for the first few days before they fade a bit and this is with me really inpressing on the salon that I want them as natural as possible.

I keep reading that narrow brows are back and the slugs I see everywhere are over, but I haven't seen any evidence of it irl.

usernumber1 · 17/08/2023 22:27

i have had my brows microbladed for years using a feather stroke with a scalpel, rather than the needle. You can’t tell they’re not my own as the feather strokes are like individual hair strokes - my natural rows are really skinny and don’t grow!

I am not a fan of the thick, sharpie, tattooed ones as for me it’s about enhancing what you have so you kook good, but not obviously done.

I also have botox, but again, I look well and not done. Will no doubt get to an age where people start to question this!

not sure about fillers in lips or cheeks…

nameitagain · 17/08/2023 22:28

I think they can look lovely. A search on Google brings up some lovely brows

I've never done anything with my eyebrows (except have an eyebrow piercing) so I don't know half of what people do (lamination?)

I was with a couple of friends when they went to get their eyebrows threaded and I could honestly not tell the difference after.

I don't really get most beauty stuff though, I don't wear make up due to sensory issues, as I'm autistic, so anything more than that would feel worse I expect.

Thank you- someone who doesn’t judge for having a procedure done. I have had micro blading done, so pleased I did, it makes me feel better. As a previous poster said each to their own..

EmmaPaella · 17/08/2023 22:32

I disagree. I think nicely shaped and tinted brows really makes a difference even on fair people. If you mean however that the current thick, unnatural-looking eyebrow trend isn’t your cup of tea, I agree.

Flowersforalgernon1 · 17/08/2023 22:38

Thank god it's not just me 😅

I just haven't seen evidence of them looking nice and natural, everyone I've seen I can tell it looks really fake. I don't live in an area that you'd expect people to have too much artificial work done either.

Flowersforalgernon1 · 17/08/2023 22:42

My eyebrows were victims of the 90s 🤣 they're ok these days and aren't too skinny any more. I just think natural brows are so much nicer even if they don't conform to whatever is fashionable at the time

OP posts:
Flowersforalgernon1 · 17/08/2023 22:43

Tinting is very different to the full on brows some people get.

OP posts:
SocksAndTheCity · 17/08/2023 22:46

But if they look very natural you won't notice them, so all the ones you do will be the unnatural ones?

I have mine microbladed (very fine strokes which look just like hairs) because I plucked them to death in the 90s and have a huge lopsided gap in the middle as well as very little left at the ends. It completely transformed my face, plus it saves me fifteen minutes faff with brow makeup products every day just to try and make them look normal (which was a pain when I don't like wearing makeup).

If you noticed mine as being 'unnatural' I would be amazed.

Flowersforalgernon1 · 17/08/2023 22:46

I know what you mean with the general, boobs, brow and pout look. I mean it's what young girls want to look like these days. I remember wanting to conform to fashionable beauty standards at that age but wish these beautiful girls could appreciate their natural beauty. I find it so sad. At least we didnt mess too much with our features back then.

Ok I'll bite..

You "don't live in an area that you'd expect people to have too much artificial work done either" 👀

I have microbladed eyebrows, gel nails.. and my GP next door neighbour does my Botox.

We live in a very nice area. Big detached 5 bedroom houses. I even have a Masters degree, I'm Chartered in my profession and my husband answers to Dr.

Unpick that.

RitzyMcFitzy · 17/08/2023 22:49

I think a lot of people benefit from enhancing their eyebrows, they really do frame the face. I tint mine at home and then pencil in the gappy bits at the front. Looks great and yes, natural. But there are undoubtedly a lot of horror brows about too.

I won't slate you, I fully agree. They also look like clones to me. What's wrong with simply enhancing your own natural looks with some well-applied make up, or not even bothering with that (though I do).

One of my dds simple "has" to have her nails done all the time and the other is now into ridiculously long fake eyelashes.
