to think that some people should just stop moaning?

Some people are never happy, are they? They moan that they are in a bad situation, usually of their own making, then they moan that nobody will help them, then they moan that when someone does help them, it's the wrong sort of help, then they are dug out of the situation the put themselves in, only to put themselves straight back in again.

If you are moaning you don't have enough room in your free house for 2 kids, and then you get put in a bigger (free!) house so you do have enough room, why do people then get pregnant again? Are they stupid or what????? It's just a kick in the teeth to everyone who helps them when they are desperate, it's wasted money down the drain all the time. They should be made to live with it. It's not my problem if they can't keep their uglies in their pants.

EEEeeeeew.... AIBU to be completely grossed out by that?

HavingAPop · 28/02/2008 22:19

Yeah I knew all you hippies would flame me but the other half of Mumsnet is nodding along with at least half of what I say. People should be encouraged to help themselves, how will anyone have any self esteem if every time they get into a mess they are dug out of it by the goverment before they have chance to learn to help themselves? I also bet if food vouchers were given out intsead of money for income support there would be less kids born to girls still living with their mum, too, but that's a whole other subject.

Washersaurus · 28/02/2008 22:20

I maybe won't mention menstrual stock to DH, he is so concerned about his salad growing on the windowsill in the kitchen that he talks to the little seedlings almost hourly to check they are OK.

HavingAPop · 28/02/2008 22:21

YOu can coo and mope and cry over the silly moaning prats all you like, I bet you don't raise your kids like that. I bet you make your kids clean up their own messes, at least if they keep making the same mess.

You know.. you may have a valid point, but if you can't post it under your regular name, we reserve the right to behave like hippies and point and laugh.

So this is me pointing and laughing MrsHouseplant.

Greensleeves · 28/02/2008 22:23

No HAP, they're nodding because they're falling asleep in sheer boredom at the low-grade ignorant tory twaddle you're spouting.

Lack of food and warmth doesn't promote self-esteem. And the last time I looked, we'd moved beyond the workhouse culture in which the poor deserved to be punished for their lack of enterprise and the children of poorer families were treated as vermin with no right to exist.

Look at yourself ffs. You're standing slightly to the right of Michael Portillo.

Emprexia · 28/02/2008 22:25

Good Grief Greensleeves? Don't do that to poor Mr Portillo, what ever did he do to deserve being stuck next to that?

Oblomov · 28/02/2008 22:26

Stop moaning, but, but, I'm british dont ya know. I was born to moan.
Houseplant.

Greensleeves · 28/02/2008 22:26

Well it would make a change from being snuggled up next to Diane Abbot [boak]

HavingAPop · 28/02/2008 22:27

Having another baby when you can't be bothered to make the effort to like the kids youve already got isn't lack of enterprise, it's lunacy, and it's selfishness. Bleating about how the goverment won't help you when you are living free as Jack Sparrow in a house that did meet your needs until you got pregnant with yet another baby you will lose interest in within 2 years isn't enterprise either, it's selfishness and shortsightedness. Some people are just too stupid to help themselves but they should at least not be encoraged to shoot themselves in the foot.

Greensleeves - I think even Michael Portillo might object to that positioning Why did you feel the need to name change if you felt your view was so reasonable? Plenty of milage in debates about how to enourage people out of the cycle of dependency - I don't think there's any in this one though.

Emprexia · 28/02/2008 22:29

Does anyone hear crickets?

Greensleeves · 28/02/2008 22:29

You're absolutely right. Some people are so wilfully and aggressively stupid they should be actively encouraged to shoot themselves in the head.

Emprexia · 28/02/2008 22:30

I still vote for making houseplant over there a pee-tree.

Kewcumber · 28/02/2008 22:31

why do people feel the need to name-change if they want a sensible debate on something. It;s like turning up at Speakers corner to exercise your right to free debate and erecting a tent and insisting on speaking form inside the tent so no-one can see you. Bizarre.

HavingAPop · 28/02/2008 22:31

It's not about the cycle of dependancy, it's about people moaning about having no help when when they have been helped as much as possible and it's funny how being uneducated is only a crime if someone is disagreeing with you. Seems it is a positive asset if you want a life of leisure though. If I'm so uneducated then surely I have the right to point out when other uneducated people are righteously taking advantage of a system that was never meant to raise ever increasingly large families for years?

Greensleeves · 28/02/2008 22:32

I reckon this is Xenia slumming it over a bottle of Bollinger

Emprexia · 28/02/2008 22:32

I've no idea.. clearly having the average intelligence and etiquette ability of a brick has rather a lot to do with it though.

did someone say they were going to dump their menstrual stock on the houseplant?

HavingAPop · 28/02/2008 22:34

I don't want a sensible debate on anything, this is in am I being unreasonable, not social politics and it's effects on overactive breeders. I am not debating it at all. I'm pointing out that there are a lot of people who moan non stop about the goverment not helping them when in fact they are sabotaging themselves at every opportunity. They need to be stopped and god knows they should stop moaning, it's so ungrateful.
