Guess how much it cost…

Local corner shop, SW London, kind of a coop franchise. I bought the following 5 items:

6 pack co op frankfurters
small deli tub of large green olives and garlic
500ml Pepsi max
small punnet blueberries
small punnet raspberries

Guess how much it cost. I’m utterly shocked.

£16.50 ish

Hufflepods · 16/08/2023 21:16

I can’t believe there are people that not only eat jars of frankfurters but pay £4 for them 🤢

The fruit aren’t a great option on keto btw, only frozen is best to keep the sugar content low. But sympathise, keto generally is harsh and defo not a diet to try and plan for on the hop.

To be honest it’s the easiest diet I’ve ever done and berries and sweetener don’t kick me out provided I have them in controlled amounts - my body seems to like it.

I do usually plan though!

I added it up at the prices I'd expect a local shop,SW London,to be and I got to £18 so pretty bang on.

This is why I avoid them!

I’m surprised it took so long before someone asked about the lunch components.

Keto plus period plus horrific night with my little bugger of a child - needed meat, something with SOME nutrients (berries and olives) and caffeine.

Fellow Keto here. It can be quite pricey being on keto as raspberries and blueberries are a staple for me but they’re not cheap. I buy large bottles of Tango Dark Berry which I really like and is keto friendly. It costs between £1.50 and £2.00 for a big bottle so better value than small bottles.

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2023 21:21

@willWillSmithsmith

I’ve never heard of that tango! Will look it up.

You can get three large bottles for £3.00 at Asda. I can’t stand the keto friendly cola drinks but I like this.

Tilep · 16/08/2023 21:26

£17

TheChosenTwo · 16/08/2023 21:26

I was going to guess £18 🥳 I feel victorious!!

Tilep · 16/08/2023 21:27

Quite proud I was so close!!

ShowOfHands · 16/08/2023 21:30

I have a co-op at the end of the road, did a tally in my head according to their extortionate prices and was going to guess £18.

Olives and soft fruits are always pricey, but bottled carbonated drinks are creeping up as well.

greyhairnomore · 16/08/2023 21:43

£20

Illbebythesea · 16/08/2023 21:45

I was going to guess £15. It’s bloody ridiculous now isn’t it? I went to LIDL the other day, bought ONE dinner for 5 of us and a few lunch/snack things for the kids. £82. £82!!!! LIDL!!!!

Mammyloveswine · 16/08/2023 21:57

£9.30

Fedupwitheveryone · 16/08/2023 22:04

at my local Coop it would have been this price but upon closer inspection (after paying) the frankfurters would have been past their sell by date, the blueberries partly open and smooshed and the raspberries mouldy. Yours sounds like a bargain

BaldButNotOut · 16/08/2023 22:08

Yeah co op is shit and a rip off.

mrsbyers · 16/08/2023 22:32

Soakitup37 · 16/08/2023 21:11

I guessed £18 before I looked at the answers. My guess

6 pack co op frankfurters £2.99
small deli tub of large green olives and garlic £4.50
500ml Pepsi max £2.99
small punnet blueberries £3.50
small punnet raspberries £3.50

coop are completely rip off expensive. I have one a min walk to me but I have only used it in emergencies and lockdown.

500ml of Pepsi max is the small bottle , I doubt you’d even pay that in selfridges

Sloelydoesit · 16/08/2023 22:56

I live over the road from a co-op. I know exactly when casualty corner happens so often get a good deal.
The normal price of stuff there is now ridiculous.
However - their frankfurters are really good. Not the usual. So that's the only price I will forgive!

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2023 22:57

@Sloelydoesit they were delicious!!

6 pack co op frankfurters £3.95
small deli tub of large green olives and garlic £3.50
500ml Pepsi max £1.90
small punnet blueberries £2.50
small punnet raspberries £2.50

So I would guess about £15? Possibly more if it's the only convenience store nearby so has a captive market

@Fedupwitheveryone

i always used to get an upset stomach if I bought stuff at my local co op. Took me a little while to associate the two, then I was really careful with the use by dates etc. still unwell. I've stopped ever going in & I am assuming they don't store it properly between delivery & putting it on the shelf. The one in the next town iver is fine.

Merryoldgoat · 16/08/2023 23:47

I’ve just put the stuff in a coop basket online and it’s just over £11 so the fancy franchised ‘Simply a Rip Off’ has eye watering markups.

I actually have a proper coop on my road so I’m heading there tomorrow in the name of research.
