About floor washing

Yes floor washing
Sorry to be utterly boring

So I have only lived in houses with laminate or carpet

We are very lucky to be in a new house with fab tiles

So far I am struggling to keep them nice and clean

I use a mop and boiling water

One day I used fairy liquid
Some stains were hard to budge

Anyone any tips?
Steam mops?

I have a Dyson which I love and go over them few times a day
I also have two dogs and 4 cats (I try to keep them in the large utility room but hey hoo)

Do you not use some kind of cleaning product added to the water?

thisisasurvivor · 14/08/2023 22:06

Stupidly used detergent for washing machine once and that was a disaster

Never had tiles before and Hopeless with cleaning so would love any tips

You try to keep your 6 pets in the large utility room? What the whole time? That seems incredibly cruel

user1473878824 · 14/08/2023 22:07

Just buy floor cleaner you don’t have to rinse off and a mop with a spray bit

panko · 14/08/2023 22:07

Go to the supermarket and look at the cleaning section. They will have floor cleaner.

MeinKraft · 14/08/2023 22:08

It's the grouting that's the problem with tiled floors. They sort of absorb dirt then when you wash the floors the dirt comes out of the grouting and all over your floor. You need a grout brush and the patience to scrub your floors to get the grout really clean.

TooManyAnimals94 · 14/08/2023 22:08

Laundry detergent? What was the thought process there? 😂

thisisasurvivor · 14/08/2023 22:08

So they have a large area sheltered outside to run around on

They have a catery type thing in one room and the dogs beds are in my room (carpet)

So no not all the time
But when raining they pop in and get warm on the underfloor heating. (We are on a farm both collies and working sheep dogs)

I get that

But sometimes some are awful
Some cost a fortune

Never had tiles

Are steam mops the way to go?
Hence why I am asking for ideas

Start with a brand and trial and error. Flash?

You don't need a ton of chemicals. Hot water & vinegar should be adequate.

Dogs tucked up in beds on the carpet in bedroom at night

In Ireland and we have had loads of rain so easier to put some old bedsheets on utility room and keep heat in the room on a low setting

They dogs tend to be out and about a lot (all fenced off btw )
Farm dogs 😍😍😍

Steam mops are good and then you can put the cover in the washing machine after each mop sesh. I find traditional mops a bit stinky.

But pp is right, the grout is the dirty bit. You can clean it with cream cleaner or cif, a toothbrush and loads of elbow grease

Remagirl · 14/08/2023 22:13

Hummusanddipdip · 14/08/2023 22:13

I have a steam mop and just put the tesco fresh floor cleaner (it's a blue fluid) in it. One a fortnight (more often monthly now) I get on my hands and knees and scrub the grouting as suggested upthread.

But I think trial and error of floor cleaner is the best way to go until you find one that cleans nicely and that you like the smell of.

I suggested that and got a load of hand claps

Ok so being a bit dim obvs
And actually meant to ask this

Should I do grout weekly?
Hope not 🤣🤣🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I have the shark steam & scrub mop which is fantastic on my tiles! Doesn’t clean the grout though so would like to try a handheld steam cleaner for that

GeorgeSpeaks · 14/08/2023 22:15

@thisisasurvivor I do the grout twice a decade.
