About floor washing

Yes floor washing
Sorry to be utterly boring

So I have only lived in houses with laminate or carpet

We are very lucky to be in a new house with fab tiles

So far I am struggling to keep them nice and clean

I use a mop and boiling water

One day I used fairy liquid
Some stains were hard to budge

Anyone any tips?
Steam mops?

I have a Dyson which I love and go over them few times a day
I also have two dogs and 4 cats (I try to keep them in the large utility room but hey hoo)

You don't need a ton of chemicals. Hot water & vinegar should be adequate.

Ok super

So will make a list

Just wondering what some have found useful

Lived in an old farm house for a long time

Then grimy one bed flats while working away

So not had the luck to have brand new tiles

Maybe read the full thread 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I did. Maybe have a look and see that we posted 1 min apart….. In your op you said you keep them in a utility room. Be more specific in future, maybe?

Anyway, what a pointless thread.
What do I clean my floor with? Floor cleaner, maybe.

Mumumumu · 14/08/2023 22:14

I have the shark steam & scrub mop which is fantastic on my tiles! Doesn’t clean the grout though so would like to try a handheld steam cleaner for that

Oooooh ok

Would you say worth getting one?

Again thanks all
I know I sound dim but just wanted to ask

I think it's the best thing to do - they all smell different. Method is nice, Flash usually works, supermarket own brand is probably just diluted Flash.

Yeah I was a bit concerned about the animals. Thanks for clarifying OP.

zusje · 14/08/2023 22:22

I use Astonish the concentrated disinfectant one. Lots of smells, lasts a long time (both the smell and bottle) and works well in hot water and traditional mop. Also cruelty free!

crackfoxy · 14/08/2023 22:22

Method spray and mop. Easy.

^ This!!!

Would it be too much for people to either give their recommendations or fuck off?!!

@thisisasurvivor I got a Shark steam mop recently, so far so good. I don't use any cleaning fluid with it.

DaisyThistle · 14/08/2023 22:26

I use an e-cloth mop. Dip the e-cloth in boiling water, wring it out and then wash with some spray floor cleaner for scent. I usually use Method or Flash or sometimes Johnsons which you have to dilute. The trick is to do it quickly every day or other day rather than try to shift dried in dirt once a week. With an e-cloth mop and spray this is so easy, and you just chuck the cloth in the washing machine, so no smelly mop heads or disintegrating sponges.

whatwhatinthebutt · 14/08/2023 22:26

I have a spray mop but the spray bit is broken.

I boil a kettle and get on my mop slipper.

I then mix some cleaning products and water, sometimes bleach goes in, oftentimes a nice smelling disinfectant goes in. Boiling water, and I go and pour that around the house.

Then I come in and aggressively mop it all whilst helping it along with my slippers.

then I go and have a lie down while it dries.

thisisasurvivor · 14/08/2023 22:33

Oh my god fabulous

Thank you

I bloody need those mop slippers so badly now

Also to the rude replies
Come on

Seriously

My pets are spoiled
Spend a fortune on them every week
They have various spaces all over the house

I spent a fortune getting a shelter set up for them so they can have time outside even if raining

And I deliberately designed the utility room with them in mind 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

My friends suggested they stay in the shed right beside the house when they have been running around in the rain
They get the warm floor with some old sheets in the utility room xxxxxx

A steam mop and plain water is fine too.

Binfire · 14/08/2023 22:46

I bought a floor cleaner for our large tiled kitchen diner, I got this one https://uk.tineco.com/products/ifloor-3.html but I think Bissel do similar. It is like a hoover and mop in one, really good. I just use hot water and a bit of flash floor cleaner in it. It’s brilliant, one of the kids spilled a full bowl of cornflakes and milk on the floor and this got the whole lot up in 10 seconds, soggy cornflakes and all.
If the floor is particularly grubby I use a product called Elbow Grease, spray onto the tiles and scrub with a microfibre flat mop then clean off with plain water. It’s really good stuff for ingrained dirt and anything greasy, but also cleans soot off the wood burner glass like magic.

🤔Could you stain the grout a darker colour?

thisisasurvivor · 14/08/2023 22:51

Fabulous all

Thank you

See I can't get this from google for those who say so

On here you get the greatest tips xxxxxxxx

OP posts:
thaegumathteth · 14/08/2023 22:52

@thisisasurvivor if the answer is yes to do I have to do the grout weekly just pretend you haven't seen it. There is not a chance I'd be scrubbing grout regularly, life's too short and I'm too lazy

Binfire · 14/08/2023 22:52

This Bissell floor cleaner is designed with pets in mind, I haven’t tried it but would recommend something like this if you have the budget. We have dogs in and out (similar farm set up) and our floor cleaner is a god send.
