About floor washing

Yes floor washing
Sorry to be utterly boring

So I have only lived in houses with laminate or carpet

We are very lucky to be in a new house with fab tiles

So far I am struggling to keep them nice and clean

I use a mop and boiling water

One day I used fairy liquid
Some stains were hard to budge

Anyone any tips?
Steam mops?

I have a Dyson which I love and go over them few times a day
I also have two dogs and 4 cats (I try to keep them in the large utility room but hey hoo)

Some robot vacuums can mop the floor too, I haven’t tried any of them but hopefully someone might come along who has!

@thisisasurvivor

"General cleaning is best done by sweeping or vacuuming, followed by damp mopping with water mixed with a gentle non-acidic cleaning solution. It's best to moisten the tiles before beginning to scrub. A flexible nylon brush makes a good scrubbing tool."

"For ceramic tile floors, porcelain and other similar tile surfaces, the best way to clean is to use bleach, ammonia and other acidic cleaners like calcium lime rust. For natural alternatives, sodium bicarbonate powder and hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, and citric acids are your best choices."

Love it

Sadly budget can't go that far

Method floor cleaner - specifically the almond one - is amazing.

what I would do is a hot water and vinegar going over, then spray the method floor cleaner on and wipe with mop. Leave to dry overnight.

I have no idea why so many arsey posters tonight op.

Tunnocks34 · 14/08/2023 22:58

I hand scrub my tiles with a scrubbing brush, boiling water and plenty of bleach.

Prob not the healthiest, chemically, but it’s how my mammy cleans her floors, and my granny too.

Skyrim41 · 14/08/2023 22:59

Spend more money rather than less on a robot hoover. Its an investment. Make sure you can order replacement filters before you buy it. And always check the reviews if it only has five star reviews it's probably fake or a scam.

BakedTattie · 14/08/2023 23:00

The method cleaner is pricey but lasts, and smells amazing

Ah the arsey ones can sod off

My pets live the greatest life ever

So moping each night probably ideal ?

To some it may sound ridiculous but I only lived in an old farm house and small crumby flats while working abroad so I have limited experience

Maybe read the full thread 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I did. Maybe have a look and see that we posted 1 min apart….. In your op you said you keep them in a utility room. Be more specific in future, maybe?

Anyway, what a pointless thread.
What do I clean my floor with? Floor cleaner, maybe.

Maybe stop being so snarky when you’re clearly scundered your post made you look silly? Just because you’re embarrassed doesn’t mean you can be rude.

What an utterly pointless response you posted. I’d be doubly embarrassed if I was you.

ladygoingGaga · 14/08/2023 23:21

We have a bloody great big kitchen/diner and two dogs and two cats and the odd lamb or two in the spring, so feel the pain of trying to keep the floor clean.

it does depend on the tiles, ours are a natural type and although we had a shark steam mop (which I loved) I’ve since discovered it just forces dirt in more as natural stone it is porous.

So just use a neutral floor cleaner now. helpfully can’t remember the name though🙄
No way I was ever going to clean the grout, somethings are not worth the effort

Yeah, I wouldn’t worry about the posters.

Working Collies have the best life ever. Doing a job they love every day. But they do end up covered in shit, muck and god knows what else, you wouldn’t want that all over your house! And the Collies wouldn’t want to be inside house ornaments either. They’d go stir crazy within a day.

I grew up on a farm, all I can say is good luck with your floors and washing machine as well 😂. Think my mum went through about 3 in 5 years, they didn’t take kindly to the state of my dad’s clothes after a day’s work in December that’s for sure!

thisisasurvivor · 14/08/2023 23:39

@Cherrysherbet

Are you for real??

Luckily there are so many lovely people on Mn

Some utter twats too

I said I know it's a ridiculous thing to ask
But what happens when someone is keen to know what worked for others and any handy tips they picked up along the way

Seriously

Lighten up

(Ps dogs snoring soundly beside me on their comfy beds heated by the underfloor heating too they seem super happy the lucky sods) 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

@Ampharos working collies are the greatest

Hence why we spoil them every single day

The sheltered area outdoors is a blessing too

I have a steam mop and just put the tesco fresh floor cleaner (it's a blue fluid) in it. One a fortnight (more often monthly now) I get on my hands and knees and scrub the grouting as suggested upthread.

But I think trial and error of floor cleaner is the best way to go until you find one that cleans nicely and that you like the smell of.

I've used three different makes of steam mop and the instructions for all of them specifically instruct NOT to use any cleaning products in them.

Soonenough · 15/08/2023 00:00

I do have robot hoover that mops . Not even a very expensive one. Still do steam mop too but this can save an every day chore. I put it on whilst watching TV .

CrazyFrogDingDing · 15/08/2023 00:18

I've had a couple of different steam mops and they were shit. Expensive ones too.
I have solid wood floors which I mop with a traditional mop and bucket containing hot water and white vinegar.
The kitchen and utility room floors are tiled, I use a long handled deck scrub on those monthly, which is great for the grouting too, with a bit of cream cleanser, then mopped as usual.
I have dogs so they get mopped daily.

I use flash with bicarbonate of soda and find that to be good.

Annaishere · 15/08/2023 19:11

That’s lovely you’ve got all tiles. Method floor cleaner is good. When I didn’t have flooring down and had a rough floor surface I actually used hydrogen peroxide, and sometimes even drain cleaner
