To think Vaping is as anti-social as Cigarettes.

I'm becoming increasingly irritated by vapes, everywhere I go there are people surrounded by a cloud of sickly smelling chemicals.
At a gig this weekend every group of people had at least one vaper constantly puffing.
Why do people think its OK?
My other bug bear is the discarded disposable ones 😡

I haven't seen any of those threads come up regularly, you must be on mumsnet a lot of the time to have pointed that one out

There was a thread recently about air freshener in holiday lets.
Plenty of people don't like artificial fragrances.

Self explanatory, what I mean't

I don’t think the random flavours should be legal. I get that they’re supposed to be a quitting tool, but they’re not really that any more. For many, they’re either a complete alternative or a first step. I’d be less judgmental if they were more heavily regulated, and ‘plain’. I think there needs to be less acceptance of them indoors in public places too. If they’re a smoking replacement people should not be be using them in shops/on buses etc. The whole point of them is for there to be an aid to end the addiction, not an alternative.

Exactly. Vape shops on every corner. It's not a quitting tool at all anymore it's heavily marketed as a fashion accessory or a little colourful toy that even the younguns can enjoy!

Popcorn lung begs to differ. 🙄

Forsooth , fun innit

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 18/08/2023 15:12

People who vape are very certain that the practice is benign. I wonder how they can be so certain. 🤔

Cos it's pretty colours and fruity innit what could go wrong 🙄

SternJosie · 18/08/2023 15:23

Vaping is nowhere near as gross or antisocial as smoking.

If you think it is then you either have a fairly short memory or you're young enough that you don't remember the UK pre-smoking ban. Being hit in the face by a thick cloud of fag smoke on entry to pubs isn't something I'll ever forget 🤢

I'd rather have 20 people standing and vaping all around me than one person next to me smoking. The smell of vapes doesn't last and cling like cigarette smoke.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 18/08/2023 15:53

It makes me irrationally cross that they took away plastic straws (which were recyclable) and then started selling disposable plastic vapes which can't be recycled and are just causing more and more people (kids) to become hooked on nicotine.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 18/08/2023 15:59

Eugh! I find it absolutely minging. For some reason I am particularly sensitive to the smell. There's nothing pleasant or fruity about it - just a really distinctive, disgusting, pungent stench that makes me want to vomit and gives me an almost instant headache. It clearly doesn't smell like that to everyone since others seem to be able to smell the apparently fruity flavours. I have to move away if there is anyone remotely nearby vaping as it really affects me badly.

I read the studies, the NHS advice, cancer research, listened to consultants, doctors, my dentist, the NHS stop smoking advice, the GOV studies, public health England

It is better than smoking, there's no doubt whatsoever about that because smoking is so harmful
Nobody fussed about how harmful nicorette inhalers were

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 18/08/2023 16:14

'Better than smoking' is a low bar and doesn't mean vaping is safe.

Nicorette inhalers and gums etc came with a shit-load of warnings!

Bonfire23 · 18/08/2023 16:16

95% safer was the last figure I saw in studies
I'm classed as a non smoker and used to be on 30 a day and vaping was the ONLY thing that got me to quit
