To think Vaping is as anti-social as Cigarettes.

I'm becoming increasingly irritated by vapes, everywhere I go there are people surrounded by a cloud of sickly smelling chemicals.
At a gig this weekend every group of people had at least one vaper constantly puffing.
Why do people think its OK?
My other bug bear is the discarded disposable ones 😡

Both are awful. I wave my hand infront of my face if I happen to be trapped in a cloud of someone's smoke and some people will still give a look like I'm the rude one.

I have the most hilarious vision of that in my head now.
Think they are bemused more than anything

They’re looking at you because you’re making a fuss, which is what you want so why complain?

Agree, the poster is making a judgey point, of course people will look at her like she’s the rude one, cos she is.

I’ve never been in a situation where I need to actively walk through someone’s Vape and inhale it as a few folks are making out is their norm . Very very easy to avoid and walk round. And it’s just Vape.

Limited odour if anything and dissipates very quickly and in very close proximity to the person vaping. Unsure why anyone is trying to make out otherwise.

Meredusoleil · 15/08/2023 07:35

I try to avoid both. They give me a head ache. But cigarettes are still worse imho. At least vapes have a fruity smell!

Giant babies sucking their pacifier

It's just a piece of plastic and looks nothing like a pacifier 🤷‍♀️

Do you feel the same about asthma pumps? I mean they're just coloured plastic too.

I know you're not comparing life saving medicine to vapes??????

Toastiesforever · 15/08/2023 12:39

I vape, not sure why it affects you really.

Yes you may see the vapor but you do realize that someone breathing out without vaping is the same reaction.

I dont drink, drunk people annoy me but i let them live their life and dont ponder it for any time s im not an arsehole.

That’s because you are. And a drama queen.

MeadowCS · 15/08/2023 12:47

If they stop people from smoking then they can crack on. The smell is not nearly as bad from vapes (sometimes quite pleasant) and you can’t get ill health effects from second hand vape the way you can with cigarettes so it’s definitely a lesser evil.

When I go out now with friends it is extremely rare to see someone smoking, even in the smoking area it’s mostly vaping so I think overall they are helping more than they are harming.

AlmostTotallyFake · 15/08/2023 12:47

Not this again.
I hope @Aworldofmyown you don't drink, wear perfume, use strong smelling fabric conditioner, drive, have pets that shed hair, use air freshener or do any of a myriad of other things that other human beings may dislike.

They CAN be loud, antisocial, thuggish and do silly things.

While vaping is not as vile as smoking to bystanders, those doing it look like utter twats. Giant babies sucking their pacifier, it's pathetic. Couldn't be doing with anyone who either smokes or vapes.

To be fair. I agree. Same with people who drink.

Magpiecomplex · 15/08/2023 12:50

Many flavoured vapes trigger my asthma in a way that cigarette smoke generally doesn't. I get a lot of judgy looks from vapers when I start coughing and wheezing, I assume they think I'm trying to make a point

DoubleShotEspresso · 15/08/2023 12:50

This is interesting as last weekend there was a very heated family debate about this involving three generations of my family. General theme amongst my parents (mid 70's) was that vaping was waaayyyy more offensive than actual "proper smoking" because "nobody really knows the risks yet and kids are being drawn into them with all the stupid flavours allowed to be on sale" (seemed like fair points to me)...
But then my sibling and his extremely anti-smoking gf were truly horrified at this as vaping is "far safer and doesn't smell rat all", (gf's youngest DC has just taken up vaping CBD at 14 years old if this is relevant?).

As a moderate mentol cigarette smoker I fully appreciate it's not my smartest life choice but wonder why it is illegal for me to purchase menthol cigarettes because it supposedly encourages children, yet I can buy bubblegum/apple crumble/vanilla ice cream flavoured vapes on any high street? Make this make sense....

honeyrain · 15/08/2023 12:51

I love how vape threads divide the audience.

You're right they're cheap, tacky and stink. Cigarettes are rotten too.

I'm always amused at grown adults clutching them for dear life, unable to go without a puff for 5 minutes.

On holidays saw numerous adults puffing away in the airport thinking they looked inconspicuous and then on the bus/coach too!

JibbaJab · 15/08/2023 12:52

I'm smoking again now but I vaped for years. Although, just like with smoking I wouldn't do it around people and move myself away and I didn't have smelly sickly sweet juice as too sweet.

You aren't breathing in anything bad, the vapour you see is empty of nicotine only the carrier liquids which creates the clouds and the smell associated.

The vape clouds, the carrier liquid does however settle on surfaces and if you were to vape a lot say indoors, it eventually builds up. It's clear but it's like a damp liquid coating that is wet to touch. Outside not likely though.

WeWereInParis · 15/08/2023 12:57

It doesn't look like one but I know what that poster means. I used to work in an office where technically vaping wasn't allowed but it wasn't at all enforced. One senior guy literally (and I do mean literally) had his vape in his mouth anytime he wasn't speaking or eating. Just constantly sucking away on it. Thankfully he used a non-flavoured (scented?) one but it did look ridiculous.

Oliotya · 15/08/2023 13:04

Vapes aren't as bad as cigarettes, but I don't like either. I find the artificial fragrance/flavour really unpleasant. I think it's very antisocial to walk around producing a cloud of anything in the vicinity of other people. Be that cigarettes smoke, vaping, hairspray, deodorant - doesn't matter what it is, keep it to yourself.

Justhere4now · 15/08/2023 13:04

Vaping was designed originally for people that want to quit smoking cigarettes , eventually you then wean yourself off the vape too.

CapEBarra · 15/08/2023 13:06

Hearmeout · 14/08/2023 22:10

Equally gross. Sucking away on a bit of plastic is a deeply unattractive look.

I can’t imagine many people care whether you find them attractive.

Elsiebear90 · 15/08/2023 13:07

They’re not comparible, I work in a patient facing role and you can tell who are heavy smokers, they stink, their nails and teeth are stained, some smell so bad they leave the room stinking of stale cigarette smoke. We bought a house from smokers and despite painting the ceiling four times the stains have still come through. You can’t even tell if someone vapes unless they tell you or you see them do it, even if they vape all day and night they won’t smell and neither will their homes.

Aworldofmyown · 15/08/2023 13:09

On a day to day basis coming across a few vapers whilst walking is fine, mildy irritating but i don't let it bother me.
However, at a gig where it seemed every third person was doing it, I didn't like it. It struck me as odd that people think it's OK.
I'm an occasional cigarette smoker, it is a vile habit and I usually hide in a bush somewhere 😆
It's odd that people find it so much more acceptable.

kitsuneghost · 15/08/2023 13:11

More people are actually smoking cigarettes (also weed) at gigs now as well as vapes
The smoking areas are gradually being removed

Aworldofmyown · 15/08/2023 13:12

Also, not many people chain smoke.
We were sat next to a car in the car park outside the gig, for an hour. The couple sat and vaped for an hour!!

JibbaJab · 15/08/2023 13:15

@Aworldofmyown It's become more of a thing that's popular as well that's the problem. Now you have people who never smoked vaping either empty juice or with nicotine.

However being a smoker when I vaped I would basically treat it like a cigarette and go off to the side or not do it while passing people. Same as what I'm doing again now smoking, just having consideration.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/08/2023 13:15

Only on MN are people walking through massive clouds of peach melba flavoured vape fumes. Back in the real world however…….

But to answer anyway, vaping is no way as horrendous as fag smoke.
