Should you change the beds every time you have guests?

I’ve always thought it is absolutely the case that a guest should have clean bed linen when they come to stay. I’ve been doing it for years. Even tho it means tonnes of washing. So when I stayed over recently at ( very good) friends I found a dirty sock in the bed. Someone had stayed in it before me.
Plus, a month or so ago I stayed at another friend and had to brush out hairs from inside the bed and off the pillow. Which I then turned over. Now to clarify, I said nothing. Got on with it. But for some ( justifiable ?) reason, I feel a bit queasy about this.
am i the only one who changes the sheets each time ???

It's polite and hospitable to provide clean sheets to guests. I always would.

But it's not disgusting or unhygienic.

Sorry, but it IS indeed disgusting.

It's rock-bottom minimum of what one does for house guests.

SurreyPsych · 17/08/2023 21:03

So relieved that people are overwhelmingly responding to say that they change them every time.

PHEW! I’m the same.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/08/2023 21:14

Yes. And when I'm a guest I strip the bed before I go (to help out, not so the next person won't have my dirty sheets)

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 21:38

I do tell my Dad not to wash my sheets after each stay, as I’m only there 2 or 3 nights and I’m the only one who ever sleeps in that bed (my teenage bedroom!).

I’m pretty sure he only ever suggests washing them because he knows I’ll scoff at the idea.

OBVIOUSLY I strip the bed and wash the sheets on occasion!

No, it’s not disgusting unless your guests regularly shit the bed.

If my adult son comes home for a night one weekend, it wouldn’t be disgusting to ask him to sleep in the same bed next time he comes.

Just back from PILs, last day I stripped the beds, aired the two towels between four of us.
Asked where to put the towels - thinking machine or laundry basket she replied 'do they really need a wash' we'd been there four days with two showers each. I honestly think she's just folded them up and stuck them back in the Instagram perfect wicker basket.

And I can't go there on the bedding. I don't care if are all 'family' I'm 50, I'm very spent most of my life out of my childhood home. I don't want to sleep in my BILs skin flakes

what I am really shocked at is the 2% who think that YOU are being unreasonable!!! people should always wash and iron the bedlinen between guests!!! it is disgusting to expect a person to sleep in avbed which has been slept in by another person without a linen change inbetween!!

Iron the bed linen?! Who in their right mind irons bed linen?

Louloulouenna · 30/08/2023 21:37

I do! Not the bottom fitted sheet but everything else - love crisp sheets.

Now that is really grim.

Yes. We don’t have guests often but when we do we put them in our bedroom and we go in the other bedroom, so always fresh sheets.

We go in the other room as that has all our clothes, dressing table etc. Whereas the other room is more plain, and more quiet.

@PriamFarrl sounds like the spare bedroom is more like your bedroom
If clothes /furniture there

And yes I always change sheets in spare bedroom before friends /family
Stay

But then I also change my own bed weekly. Every Friday like my mum
Did when I was living at home

Many on here don't do one weekly and some are more fortnightly

Many from what I R.E.M. reading on the countless threads we have for bed changing 😂😂

are monthly -shudders

Not really. We have a sleeping room and a dressing room. I’d say the one we sleep in was the bedroom really. The other bedroom is the one we dress in, but it had a bed in it.
