To ask for tacky ideas for MIL bday

Dreamegg · 13/08/2023 21:44

It's MIL's birthday next week, she's 65. She's really hard to buy gifts for, never says what she wants and loves tacky tat. The sort of stuff that goes viral on Facebook/TikTok. But I'm really bad at buying tat presents. Any suggestions? What's trending on the tat scene at the moment?

Her hobbies are playing golf, watching soaps, and drinking wine. She has no interests really. She hates food gifts.

You sounds really mean...

CatMattress · 13/08/2023 21:46

Have you had a look in B&M lately?

ShirleyPhallus · 13/08/2023 21:47

the amount of passive aggressive snobbery in this post is really impressive

How?

She's taking the time and efffot to think of something mil will like. It's not mean to say people like 'tat' if they do

dinmin · 13/08/2023 21:49

Personalised wine glass / golf towel / golf ball marker? Do you have kids? If so personalised grandma / photo tat?

Fizzadora · 13/08/2023 21:50

Why on earth are you bothering?
or
Tell your DH to sort out his mother's present.

MichelleScarn · 13/08/2023 21:50

While clearly intimidated by your clear superiority complex I've been unable to think of a recommendation.

LylaLee · 13/08/2023 21:51

Sounds like you hate her.

You've got a list of her hobbies. Decide your budget and get her a gift related to them. Like a gift to a golf hotel in Scotland with a friend.

Or if you want to spend less just ask chat gpt: gift ideas for people who like xyz. Budget £50 or whatever.

Giggorata · 13/08/2023 21:51

F you live near the South East, take her to Margate for the day, with Dreamland, fish and chips and a knickerbocker glory.

LonelyFlans · 13/08/2023 21:51

If there is a Quality Save/Home Bargains near you, they had some pens in the shape of golf clubs this week

LylaLee · 13/08/2023 21:52

E.g. a trip to the set of a soap. A wine tasting afternoon somewhere nice.

ScarlettDarling · 13/08/2023 21:53

Ooh, what about a Coronation street tour or an Emmerdale tour if she loves the soaps? Coach companies like National holidays do them, great prices.

Optionyougot · 13/08/2023 21:53

Can you give some examples of the kind of things off Facebook or tiktok she's gotten/liked previously? It's hard to get past the way you describe it in order to offer a useful suggestion

Optionyougot · 13/08/2023 21:56

Surely there are lots of golf options? Clubs, gloves, accessories etc? Night away at a golfing resort with a fancy dinner and wine pairing included? Or wine decanters, aerators, tasting classes, unusual wine glasses?

What a very strange comment.

Presumably (seeing as the post is specifically asking for help with it) OP WANTS to buy her MIL a birthday present.

5128gap · 13/08/2023 22:01

The best gift you could give her would be to do her the courtesy of giving her nothing. At least then the woman would know where she stood with you, rather than having all this sneery nonsense going on behind her back.
Tell her son it's up to him to buy his mother a gift.

Catusrusty · 13/08/2023 22:02

Can't you pass this off to your DH if you are struggling? It's hard when you aren't in the right frame of mind.

Golf club washer?

Personalised golf balls?

Golf ball bag/box/pouch/sack?

Lolapusht · 13/08/2023 22:08

A pair of those plastic lavender hanging basket/ball thingies or a solar garden thingymajig.

Clefable · 13/08/2023 22:09

A mug with your husband's face on

WhateverMate · 13/08/2023 22:13

Ask your husband what he's bought her and get an idea from that?
