To ask for tacky ideas for MIL bday

It's MIL's birthday next week, she's 65. She's really hard to buy gifts for, never says what she wants and loves tacky tat. The sort of stuff that goes viral on Facebook/TikTok. But I'm really bad at buying tat presents. Any suggestions? What's trending on the tat scene at the moment?

Her hobbies are playing golf, watching soaps, and drinking wine. She has no interests really. She hates food gifts.

How can she have no interests if she plays golf?

Sorry, I actually like MIL but probably doesn't sound like it! Seriously, the only way I can describe what she likes is pointless tacky tat! Also for background, she's extremely wealthy (I'm certainly not) so it's definitely not snobbery or any form of classism on my part. I usually try to get treats for people, or something they'd like or use. She prefers value, basic products which are not things I'd gift anyone. She's got that sort of wartime mentality. If you get her anything remotely nice or luxurious she just regifts it or sells it.

DH and his siblings are buying her a fitness watch that can track her golf rounds. I just wanted to get her a little something.

Why on earth are you bothering?
or
Tell your DH to sort out his mother's present.

You and your partner never bother for each others family then? Doesn't sound that nice a way to be

@LylaLee @ScarlettDarling Trip to the set of Corrie is a great idea, she'd love that. Didn't know that was a thing! Thank you

Does she read books? There’s a few novels based on Coronation St and Emmerdale but set during WW2.

TaigaSno · 13/08/2023 22:42

Magazine subscription to inside soap?

Or I guess just a bottle or two of wine would be good, you know she'll drink it. I've seen online places that do personalised labels on wine.

Sweetener12 · 14/08/2023 07:39

Not exactly tacky, but you can make her a Happy birthday slideshow with her photos and everything and she could post it all over her sm and be happy.

Also think one of those gift boxes/baskets where they have body lotions, candles, bath bombs etc. Get the most posh looking one and call it a day.

AlanGrantsNeckerchief · 14/08/2023 07:44

How about a Stanley Cup? they are all over insta/tiktok as a current trend and are not cheap - but are practical in terms of drinking water and she could take it out and about with her and on the golf course ? search #stanleycup

AlanGrantsNeckerchief · 14/08/2023 07:45

actually you’ll need #stanleytumbler

Prescottdanni123 · 14/08/2023 08:03

Pay for her to do the Emmerdale or Corrie studio tour?

You sounds really mean...

This.

Meow.

Moreorlessmentallystable · 14/08/2023 08:52

A condescending, mean spirited daughter in law! Oh seems like she already has one of those 😂

User9088 · 14/08/2023 09:05

ITV store has a soaps section of you want something smaller. A David's shop tote bag or a Rover's return tea towel

I didn't sleep so well last night, so maybe I'm missing something, but these two statements seem conflicting to me!

As do these!

tryingsomethingnew · 14/08/2023 09:21

Depending on where you are, Call the midwife do a tour in London. I'm not sure how but Loose Women have audience tickets too. Or maybe grab all the grandkids together and get a photo and a nice frame.

Thewallsof · 14/08/2023 09:23

Are you normally this judgmental and mean. Just google viral tiktok products if you must. But then you couldn't be mean about her here if you did that...

Baldieheid · 14/08/2023 09:25

Would she enjoy a photoshoot for herself? So she has a few self portraits she really loves?

kinkii · 14/08/2023 09:26

Her hobbies are playing golf, watching soaps, and drinking wine. She has no interests really.

You just listed three of her interests 😑

HelloSquire · 14/08/2023 09:27

Book -60 years of coronation street is good
Crocheted loo roll cover
Novelty tea pot warmer
Felted flowers in a jam jar
Books from her childhood
Board games

Mrsjayy · 14/08/2023 09:29

You are so stylish that you can't choose tatt , your poor Mil will have to have a stylish thoughtful gift 😂 or you could go on moonpig or wherever and buy her something with 65 on it maybe a wine glass or a personalised label bottle of wine.

DudeItsPrawns · 14/08/2023 09:30

You can get photos printed on golf balls. Or socks. Or pants.

CurlewKate · 14/08/2023 09:32

Easy to buy stuff for golf fans. I would imagine "golf gifts for her" would yield results.

caringcarer · 14/08/2023 09:33

A crate of good wine. I think most people would like that.

Favouritefruits · 14/08/2023 09:44

My MIL has the same taste, we bought her a glittery glass Yankee wax melt diffuser and she’s loved it, it’s very tacky but just her taste along with a box if melts
