You just eat it on the paper/out of the box right?? 🙈😂

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 11/08/2023 19:04

If I’m at home I would definitely use a plate

Pandaflop · 11/08/2023 19:05

On a plate for me but out of the box for DH. I also use a knife and fork and DH uses his hands. We both think the other is weird....

Ew eating with hands is weird!

FrivolousTreeDuck · 11/08/2023 19:06

Ooh, no. Spoils it! I'm with you, OP.

Put the paper on the plate to stop grease soaking through. No cutlery.

How do you eat battered fish without cutlery 😱

We don't pour sauce here in the north of Scotland... I don't think! Certainly no one I've ever eaten with. Although I know they do it with chippy sauce in Edinburgh.

I remember the first time, as an English person living in Glasgow, that I unwittingly mistook chippy sauce for ketchup in a cafe. I told the waiter that it must have turned mouldy or something. 🤢 😳 😅

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 11/08/2023 19:12

@AndTheSurveySays @YouAndMeAndThem

I have never had a picnic on a beach ever. The most i would ever eat of a beach might be an ice cream while walking on it.

I just said it to my partner who now thinks I'm weird and apparently we are now going to the beach over the weekend because "I've been missing out on life and need to experience fish and chips at the beach!"

In my defense, I was bought up in a household where we only ate at the kitchen table, never on your laps or in front of the TV!!

Please don't be that guy that eats pizza with knife and fork? Sandwiches? Burgers? Fried chicken?!

QuaversAndRedbull · 11/08/2023 19:15

We use plates but only because I'm the one who dishes it up and that's what my Mam always did, dh would use paper if im not there as that's what they all do, his family used to joke and call me posh because they all eat straight from the paper with their bare hands. I don't think either is odd though. I just don't want grease on my hands because I hate how it feels.

I also hate gritty textures like nail files and sand paper and I know it's a thing to eat them on the beach or the coast wall but that's not an enjoyable experience for me either. Greasy hands + sand sticking to it makes me shudder because it's a gritty textured

I prefer to eat my fish and chips at a seaside cafe with a knife and fork, but I'll do it ok the wall as long as I have a fork and it's in a box not papers.

Plates at home (preheated, never cold) and paper at the seaside.

Same here!

InSpainTheRain · 11/08/2023 19:16

If we're outside, at the beach etc then on the paper. If we bring it home then on.a plate.

Tinkerbyebye · 11/08/2023 19:19

No use a plate

DanceMumTaxi · 11/08/2023 19:33

Where are all these boxes? Don’t think I’ve ever had fish and chips in a box? Except maybe at wimpy many years ago.

YouAndMeAndThem · 11/08/2023 19:14

Not fish and chips! At a push the chips but not anything else- the grease, presumably not cutting it so chewing chunks off it- nooooo.

OnionBhajis · 11/08/2023 20:21

@ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees - chips on the beach isn't a class thing. I'm glad your husband is taking you as you've missed out!? Do you live a long way from the beach?

We always did/do meals at the table too... but chips on the beach is lovely.

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/08/2023 20:22

CrowleyAndHisSexyWalk · 11/08/2023 17:52

Put onto warm plates in this house too, if eating it at home (same for all take away food, generally).

Really, really want fish and chips now!

We have fish and chips about once a year - but MUST be served on hot plates, same as any take-away.

I like my food hot - we often heat up take-aways, too.

Needmorelego · 11/08/2023 20:23

I might be wrong but wasn’t fish in batter basically invented so people could eat the fish on the go out of their hands 🤔

OnionBhajis · 11/08/2023 20:25

@QuaversAndRedbull I have some sensory issues - I use the chip fork they have on the side.

I've never had actual sand in them! If you sit on the wall/rock/edge/seat why would you get Sand in them? I'm not putting them down on the ground.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/08/2023 20:26

If I'm out and about, I'd eat it out of the paper. If I've brought it home then I eat it off a plate like the civilised person I am. 😂

LadyPenelope68 · 11/08/2023 20:27

No, on a plate and at the table.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 11/08/2023 20:31

I put chips still in their wrapper, on a plate, on a tray.
The chippy I use has cardboard boxes instead of polystyrene, so the excess grease is likely to soak through. I also use a fork.

MissFlimpkin · 11/08/2023 20:31

LizzieSiddal · 11/08/2023 17:55

I always eat from the wrapping, Dh thinks I’m mad.

I’m not mad, I’m northern. 😂

From the paper definitely- I'm southern

blahblahblah1654 · 11/08/2023 20:31

On plates. The paper is so greasy and horrible

Glittertwins · 11/08/2023 20:32

Plates here, don't want grease on the sofa or table.

Daphnis156 · 11/08/2023 20:35

If you like grease every where eat out of the paper, then have a shower.

Sweetlily99 · 11/08/2023 20:38

Yabu plates knives and forks...

I was aghast when DH started using fingers and not plate just paper on the dining room table when he was my DBF ... floored me!

Needless to say plates and cutlery 16 years later!

Was normal to him but I'm very much a place setting and cutlery person! snob?
