I always warm the plate before I use it.

Hawkins009 · 11/08/2023 18:34

Not always sometimes I use a metal dish, or put the bag on a plate. It's a mix at times.

toomuchlaundry · 11/08/2023 18:35

@PurpleSteak one of mine and DH's special memories is fish and chips on the beach of an uninhabited island watching the sunset. We were on a boat trip, not sure what the rest of the boat trippers thought when we turned up with fish and chips and a bottle of wine. When we got to the island they all went off to explore and we just sat there on the beach having our chippy tea! Luckily the island wasn't too far from the mainland so the food was still warm

For fish and chips, then plate and cutlery,

If you're out and buy a bag/basket/tray of just chips, then out of the container.

maddiemookins16mum · 11/08/2023 18:38

Surely the rule is to put the plates in the warming oven when someone pops to get the fish supper? They then butter the bread and make a pot of tea.

Are people POURING the sauce on the chips?! Don't they go soggy? Oh no no no not where I'm from, it's a dip only 😂

What blasphemy is this? Away with you and your dipping nonsense.

PutThatDownNow · 11/08/2023 18:40

On a plate at home. From the paper if at the seaside.

Popped out for some chips earlier in the week and passed a couple sitting on the sea wall earing their takeaway from proper plates with proper cutlery they must have brought from home. Mind blown.

oviraptor21 · 11/08/2023 18:41

Cannot imagine eating the fish with hands .... yeuch!
And definitely warm plates when available ... but I will put the box/paper on the plate.

We don't pour sauce here in the north of Scotland... I don't think! Certainly no one I've ever eaten with. Although I know they do it with chippy sauce in Edinburgh.

shelbaby · 11/08/2023 18:45

I'm very much a person that doesn't want extra dishes. However I'd always put it on a plate. I'd find it so strange to eat from the paper at home. It was same growing up at mum n dads and same for dh.
The only time I'd eat it like that wld be if I were at seaside. I also don't really like eating like that but needs must.

toomuchlaundry · 11/08/2023 18:46

@PutThatDownNow we have a picnic rucksack which has an insulated section and a detachable wine bottle holder, together with plates, cutlery and plastic wine glasses. We have had civilised picnics whilst out hiking!

willWillSmithsmith · 11/08/2023 18:47

I find the box is too greasy so put it on a plate. I only get fish and chips very occasionally (once a year or so), I like them but they are greasy.

Coronationstation · 11/08/2023 18:48

Straight out of the box here. The whole point of getting takeaway is no washing up!! I use the laptop tray to keep the grease off my lap but our local puts them in boxes so they're usually ok for “seepage”

DanceMumTaxi · 11/08/2023 18:48

Plates at home. We share 2 portions of chips between 4 of us and I share my fish with dd because the portions are absolutely huge!

DanceMumTaxi · 11/08/2023 18:49

Plates and cutlery go in the dishwasher so no real tidying up to do.

ilovepixie · 11/08/2023 18:51

Out of the box/paper. Otherwise it's not the same.

VoluptuaSneezelips · 11/08/2023 18:54

It depends on if it's just chips, how they are packaged and how lazy hungry im feeling. Chips in paper or in a tray I put a plate underneath for stability. If I have a pudding or pie, gravy, curry or mushy pea's though I put it on a plate.

bobbitybobbitybob · 11/08/2023 18:55

If I'm at home, always a plate. My DH who gets cross when the children eat anything with their fingers always refuses cutlery, as he used to eat it with his hands when little - I can't understand wanting to eat something greasy without cutlery... yuk!

Dacadactyl · 11/08/2023 18:57

If we're eating it at home...ALWAYS on a plate. If im at the beach, then out of the paper is fine.

But at home I think it's gross to eat it off paper, sorry!

BarelyLiterate · 11/08/2023 18:58

I’m from the North, so I enjoy my fish & chips on a plate and eat them with a knife & fork. Accompaniments are mushy peas, bread & butter and a large mug of strong Yorkshire tea. 😋

mrsbyers · 11/08/2023 18:58

Plate here too so we can share out the chips between us

Growlybear83 · 11/08/2023 19:01

Why on earth would you not eat your meal off a plate?

Why on earth would you not eat your meal off a plate?

Because you can eat it off the box!

AuntieMarys · 11/08/2023 19:03

Always a plate...Northern here
