Report says they left uk in march when 35 weeks.
Baby isn’t born until 23/4.
Surely if your dream is to give birth in St Lucia on a specific beach you get there.
What were they doing between March and 23/4.
It does sound like baby was term though not prem.
The story about accidentally giving birth at sea would have made more sense if baby was prem.

Testina · 11/08/2023 19:03

Sailing times for smaller craft at 6 knots:

I have no words - woman now stranded after wanting to give birth in St Lucia (on the beach...)
Testina · 11/08/2023 19:05

@Dixiechickonhols hope it doesn’t feel like I’m arguing with you! I’m just fascinated by this 🤣
But I was also trying to work out how obviously ready to pop she was when they took to the 9 hour (?) sail to Grenada.
I thought the same about March / 35 weeks, but actually the news reports I read didn’t say they flew in March, but that Iuliia “found” the Martinique beach in March. So I wondered if that meant she chose it from online photos and they travelled out to it later?

itsgettingweird · 11/08/2023 19:05

I know both their DDs have lovely classic names.

But has anyone noticed they wanted to give birth in St Lucia and the kids name is Louisa? It's making me say it as loo - wee - sha Grin

@DailyMaui “In April they hire a boat cos the weather an hour and a half away is much better.
Baby gets born during that 90 minutes. “

Are you basing that 90 minutes on another poster saying it’s a 1.5 hour ferry?

They’re in a small boat.

I’m not claiming any personal knowledge of sailing the Caribbean islands, but this person does and puts it at 4 hours.

Sometimes, shit happens!

We also miss a lot of detail here. They might have been breaking the (9?) hour journey to Grenada into several days, enjoying the trip. They might have been anchored not far off St Lucia for a few more hours, just enjoying the view and planning to sail again next day.

I would love to know!

My theory:
They were living on the boat, she felt a contraction and said, “Clive - engine on, getting me to the beach NOW.” Then Clive fucked up because he navigates with his sprite guides and dick, and went south instead of north. 4 hours later, Iuliia has a baby in her arms and is saying, “you cock Clive, that is not Martinique, that’s St Lucia, turn the fucking map round you pillock”.

😂

I’m hoping Clive’s ex wife pops up and says Clive used to seasick on ferry to Isle of White.

Not sure that idea would work either...

"Attribution by birth in France, or “jus soli”
A child born in France, where one or both parents were born in France, is French.
Simply being born in France only guarantees attribution of French nationality for children born to unknown or stateless parents, or to foreign parents who haven’t passed on their nationality to their child.

Not true, if you are born in France you are entitled to French nationality as soon as you have lived in France for 5 years from the age of 8. So a British child born in France who lives there until age 13 can get French nationality at 13. Or if they leave, provided they spend a total of 5 years (continuous or not) between 8 and 18, they get the passport automatically at 18.

No I’m far too invested in this and now know far more about this area of the Caribbean!

3luckystars · 11/08/2023 19:10

‘We have been abandoned’

i thought that’s what she wanted.

wizzywig · 11/08/2023 19:11

They haven't even done a proper sad face in the picture

Testina · 11/08/2023 19:11

Actually @Dixiechickonhols I’ve just tried another news link that says they “left” in March. But there’s discrepancies even between papers running the same story with lots of copy and paste. So nothing conclusive!

It did make me not the birth time though: 12:40 am.

Assuming that’s local time, that’s an odd time to be at sea if you’re planning a one day 9 hour sail. So I’m going to say they set off from Martinique planning to stop overnight en route. Then she went into labour, they stopped, and she laboured into the night.

But I’m making it up as I go along.

Apart from the bit about Clive being a cock. That’s a true fact.

Beetleback · 11/08/2023 19:13

Taking their story at face value there are so many layers of mind boggling stupidity involved it’s hard to know where to start!

Restinggoddess · 11/08/2023 19:13

The ultimate definition of entitled parents - no concept of the potential danger or that rocking up with a baby and claiming it’s theirs, is not going to be met with instant agreement

Social services need to ask some questions

four hours then...

Just glad she wasn't like me and didn't dilate more than 3cm in a 36 hour labour then require an emergency c-section when the baby got stuck and went into distress. Not sure how strong her mula bandha was but mine was like a fucking vice due to lots and lots of Ashtanga yoga and - according to things I've read afterwards - may have led to the lack of dilation. Or that could be rubbish, like their story...

It's all a load of bollocks isn't it? As if you could happily leave your 8 year old for months while swanning around having a beach baby and sailing miles and miles running up thousands in debt and not doing the fastest thing possible to get your baby registered and home.

letsdonextweek · 11/08/2023 19:14

Absolute fucking bellends

Dixiechickonhols · 11/08/2023 19:19

Joking aside at least mum and baby appear well. It could have been a very different outcome at sea with only Clive to assist and sail the boat.

itsgettingweird · 11/08/2023 19:19

Testina yeah I got confused by the kg Vs lbs!!! Stupid really because my ds was born abroad (legally - I lived there 🫣🤣) and his weight was recorded in KG but I'm use to using Lb in UK. So although I typed 3kg I was thinking lbs 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

They still didn't get a new born checked over though.

DepartureLounge · 11/08/2023 19:28

RoseAndRose · 11/08/2023 18:14

even if the woman has English as a second language, she is resident in the UK with a native English speaking husband

??

The article doesn't say that.

It says Iuliia Ghurzhi and husband Clive. It doesn't give a different surname for him anywhere, and there is no information about their status. I think its safe to assume that one/both must be British, because the British authorities are assisting them with the expectation of confirming the baby's entitlement to British nationality and therefore a travel document that will allow them to return home.

Or is there further coverage that indicates more about their respective backgrounds? (Assuming that someone isn't a native English speaker because their name sounds foreign (Ukrainian?) is a bit dodgy, so perhaps I've just missed some info somewhere)

If you cross-reference the electoral roll and 192.com, it turns out he has a couple of surnames at least.

Not that that's relevant to nationality. Afaik, they are both British.

The only person that has been abandoned is the eldest daughter.

I really wish that they had called the baby Rodney.

It’s a girl. Rodnetta? Rodneyla?

ChampagneLassie · 11/08/2023 19:40

I hope SS access them on their return. I take no joy from this story I just feel sorry for that poor wee baby and her older sister 😢

MintyCedric · 11/08/2023 19:44

“…we have been abandoned."

You’ve been irresponsible morons.

WeetabixTowels · 11/08/2023 19:45

Awful, narcissistic selfish fools.

It all sounds very dodgy I think and I’m pleased authorities are casting suspicion on them.

JANEY205 · 11/08/2023 19:47

Really hope social services are waiting when they get back.
-Abandoned older child
-Didn’t get adequate medical care for their newborn in the first few days of life
-Knowingly put their newborn in a risky situation with a planned beach birth/boat birth with no medical aid
-Have shown they aren’t of sound kind or able to decisions in the best interests of their children.

All around selfish morons and surely this is neglect?!

Hahaha! I enjoyed your reply. 🤣
