AIBU to leave my wedding rings at home for holiday?

Am I being over cautious by not bringing my wedding rings on holiday? DH is taking his. We have had 2 sun + sea holidays since getting married and I brought a fake set on both trips. I bring my real rings on other breaks where I know I won't be swimming.

I'm mostly curious as to what others do. I just figure on our upcoming holiday I would just have to find somewhere to store them on holiday as we plan on being in the pool every day so easier not to take them. DH has a simple band which can be hit and won't come off his finger.

YABU - wear your wedding ring on holiday
YANBU - too big a risk of losing it in the sea or breaking a diamond off in the pool

I don't take mine off but it's only worth a few hundred quid. I'm not a jewellery person. Intrigued on buying a 'holiday' set of wedding/engagement rings though! I'd just not wear them for a couple of weeks.

I just leave my actual wedding ring at home. I rarely remember to put it on anyway. If I have costume jewellery for holidays for going out.

@MangoMandy I bought the fake ring for our honeymoon, it's nothing flash at all. I wanted to wear a ring on honeymoon. I wouldn't be bothered to not bring it this time actually or I might wear my Claddagh ring instead

I'm not sure what DH will do, he normally brings his wedding ring it's just a plain band as he wears it about 5 times a year!

I have worn a fake one when I am worried about losing or damaging my real ones. I fidget with my hands a bit and feel strange without some ring on that finger now.

I work in healthcare so can only wear my wedding ring for work. So when on holiday I enjoy wearing my other rings. Regularly swim in the sea, pool, sailing etc with rings on when on holiday.
What is the point in having them and not wearing them?!
Sometimes at weekends I wear my rings and might forget to take off to go swimming locally. But they fit well so do not fall off. Always wear my wedding ring even if swimming etc. Will remove if climbing due to degloving risk but can't think of another time I'd remove. Quite difficult to get off!

I always wear mine in the pool and sea. I did lose the diamond from my engagement ring a few years ago...was out and about on my daily business at home, not sure exactly when it was lost. It was covered by my home insurance so was replaced.

i don’t waste money on “fake” rings - i just wear a plain gold band on holiday and leave anything quite expensive or with stones at home

TrustyRusty68 · 13/08/2023 18:17

Literally never take mine off - regardless of swimming or other activity. If it’s so loose it might fall off, maybe look at getting it resized?

InsomniacsWife · 13/08/2023 18:18

I'd need to chop my fat chipolata finger off to leave mine at home 😂

But I also don't want to be walking around with £££ on my finger at the beach / pool / holiday in general. My next holiday will be mid 30s with lots of water involved, I'm not splashing around with a house deposit on my finger 😂

Why? My engagement ring is worth 5 figures and I wear it all the time on holiday, including in the pool. It’s platinum and diamond so very hardy and is also fully insured. The only time I really take it off is if we’re somewhere particularly dangerous like outside a resort in Jamaica or Africa.

👆🏻this… I bought a fake the first year and it broke whilst abroad when I was working out in the on site gym! Ever since I realised that my real ring (given I wear it in the gym and lifting at home) is far more hardy and I need to just continue wearing it.

I get it checked every year and polished by the local jeweller who designed it with my husband and built it by hand and the lady there said to my husband who was a bit upset his had a scratch that wouldn’t entirely polish out ‘each little mark is a sign of the memories you made together’ and it changed my view of my wedding/engagement rings substantially.

The only time I would remove now is if we were in a country where wearing it would be considered unwise due to crime levels.

I wear my wedding ring constantly but it’s just a plain band. When we go on holiday I take my engagement ring but put it in the safe during the day and just wear it in the evening. I very rarely wear it at home due to my job so only wear it when going out so it’s nice when we go on holiday to get to wear it more often.

Dontworkmondays · 14/08/2023 20:13

I wear cheap alternative if I’m travelling to destinations where expensive jewellery makes me a target. Other than that don’t worry.

Leave my wedding ring at home when I’m on holiday?
No, I even wear mine when I’m in the supermarket, bet none of you would dare risk that.
