Do you shave your armpits?

Have just done mine for the first time since last summer. I don't care what it looks like, but the humidity where I live has been a killer lately and I will try anything if it makes me feel less sweaty/ makes my antiperspirant work more effectively.

I have not shaved regularly for quite a few years now. In my twenties I pretty much always did though.

What's normal for you?

Is there less pressure on women to shave their underarms now compared to 20 years ago?

Once a week, sparse hair anyway but like to feel fresh.

pictoosh · 08/08/2023 23:38

Yes and for the same reason you do. My deodorant works better.

StillWantingADog · 08/08/2023 23:42

Yes in summer when the weather is hot and I’m wearing strappy dresses

otherwise I do from time to time, but not regularly

Theimpossiblegirl · 08/08/2023 23:43

A quick once over in my morning shower, legs too, all year round.

Wife2b · 08/08/2023 23:44

Yes every other day, no pressure from anyone it’s personal preference.

Enko · 08/08/2023 23:44

Yes I do I prefer it that way. Idk there was pressure to when I was a teen but I do recall a Madonna poster with her armpit hair. Being a talking point and it surprising me it was.

Should be said I grew up in Denmark.

Alwaystired2023 · 08/08/2023 23:44

Sporadically... once a month sometimes once every 2 months! Don't really think about it to be honest

SamW98 · 08/08/2023 23:45

Every other day and it’s personal preference as I’ve been single for several years.

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 08/08/2023 23:46

Nope, not since my early 20s. Once I stopped I wondered why I ever had! Although I do appreciate the argument that deodorant probably would work better. I'm not a particularly smelly person though i don't think.

BirthdayComplication · 08/08/2023 23:46

Wax, hot wax always. Shaving is too bristly and scratchy

Same

WhateverMate · 08/08/2023 23:49

Yes, every other day.

I just don't like the look or feel of my armpits when they're hairy.

letsdonextweek · 08/08/2023 23:49

Yes, very quick every motioning and legs

ShavenUnderarmHaven · 08/08/2023 23:49

That's the thing, I would have said this myself until very recently. But I just feel sweaty so much lately.

The humidity has been up at 80 and 90 something per cent and I'm walking/ carrying stuff so mild exertion - I am seriously hoping it is that and not that I'm going into a new sweatier phase of perimenopause!

Yes, every day or every other day. Never had any pressure but I just don’t care for how they look/feel with hair. I’m also quite sweaty so it feels easier to apply deodorant/anti-perspirant to cleanly shaven skin.

Mamai90 · 08/08/2023 23:51

Every couple of days, I'm not a sweaty person I just prefer how it looks and feels though I'm guessing that's down to society's conditioning of me!

Yeah I'm already not looking forward to regrowth.

Would a beard trimmer or one of those electric lady shave things give a fairly close crop without irritating the skin instead of a 'real' razor I wonder?

Don't know, waxing is longer lasting and hair grows back soft

KittensAllOverTheCarpetAndSofa · 08/08/2023 23:53

Very rarely. I find I sweat and have odour more when I’m shaved.
If I want to wear something sleeveless I would shave, but only if I was going out in public.

Yes this

Blarn · 08/08/2023 23:54

Very spoadically, even in my 20s whenI shaved my legs and pubic hair every day. Ifind shaving my underarms uncomfortable and the hair isn't very dark. It's never bothered me but I notice unshaved puts far more regularly now.

SM4713 · 08/08/2023 23:54

I've shaved, or occasionally had it waxed, since age 12, so over 30yrs now. I've maybe gone 2 weeks in the winter at most without removing it.

Morning!!* 🤦‍♀️

MissTrip82 · 08/08/2023 23:55

I had mine lasered.

Im not silly enough to think I’m immune to societal pressure, why would I be?

My husband has armpit hair and doesn’t sweat/smell more than me. It was purely aesthetic for me, in the context of the society in which I have lived for more than 40 years.

Lindy2 · 08/08/2023 23:55

Home laser hair removal got rid of my underarm hair. I wish I'd done it years ago.

I no longer have to endure stubble rash and it is much cleaner and fresher.
