Do you shave your armpits?

Have just done mine for the first time since last summer. I don't care what it looks like, but the humidity where I live has been a killer lately and I will try anything if it makes me feel less sweaty/ makes my antiperspirant work more effectively.

I have not shaved regularly for quite a few years now. In my twenties I pretty much always did though.

What's normal for you?

Is there less pressure on women to shave their underarms now compared to 20 years ago?

I only have about 3 blonde hairs so I pluck them, when I remember.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 09/08/2023 08:27

Yes, everyday. It only takes 30 seconds and I can't stand the feeling of hair under there.

Lindy2 · 09/08/2023 08:27

Rummykitten · 09/08/2023 00:41

@Lindy2 , that would be a game changer for me! Which one did you use?

I have very noticeable hair (dark hair on very fair skin) so hopefully would be a good candidate for this…!

@Rummykitten I use the Braun one. It's very good.

I wish home laser devices had been available when I was younger. I spent so much time and effort in the past trying to remove dark hair in fair skin.

Yellowlegobrick · 09/08/2023 08:31

Im trying to do this less as i have a young daughter and i don't want to influence her thinking she ever has to. I don't love how it looks but then I remind myself that how it looks is prepubertal, and why would i want to look like that & perpetuate the notion that you need to look sexually immature to be attractive?

By the same rationale I'd be unimpressed if DH shaved his chest.

I do notice less odour when not removing the hair.

Yellowlegobrick · 09/08/2023 08:31

*how it looks SHAVED is prepubertal i mean

megletthesecond · 09/08/2023 08:33

Wax. It's fresher for exercise.
Not a soul ever sees them though, lone parent and self harm scars so I never go sleeveless.

MereDintofPandiculation · 09/08/2023 08:33

Hate the look of the white skin in my armpits so gave up over 50 years ago. Seems to me the pressure to shave is greater than it's ever been, so I just don't show my armpits in public.

JulesJules · 09/08/2023 08:40

Mine never grew back after chemo and radiotherapy. My eyelashes grew back but much sparser.

BarbedButterfly · 09/08/2023 08:43

Every other day. I find my deo doesn't work otherwise and same with other brands.

Home laser hair removal got rid of my underarm hair. I wish I'd done it years ago.

I no longer have to endure stubble rash and it is much cleaner and fresher.

Can you please talk more about this - what did you use? How long did it take? Which body parts worked best/didn’t? And how well did it work…? Perfect smoothness no har or just short hair or thinner hair? I want to get one of these but obviously don’t know if ts worth the investment. I also have dark hair on very pale skin (the joy) so nervous it’ll not work.

TragicMuse · 09/08/2023 08:54

Haven't done for about...9? 10? years. I just can't be that bothered.

I do my legs occasionally, if I remember.

MonkeyPuddle · 09/08/2023 08:58

I used to shave them every other day. Just force of habit really. Then decided I couldn’t be arsed any more, I shower every other day and have a sink wash every day anyway so they get a wash and I’ve had no issues with BO.
Doesn’t really cross my mind to shave. I do pluck my chin hairs though, I do draw the line there!

Hop27 · 09/08/2023 09:07

@Alopeciabop
Dark hair on pale skin is the best combination. You'll never get rid of 100% - but it's sparse and down like hair.
I'm working my way through everything and wish I'd done it sooner, although having mine done at a clinic.
Shave in between treatments, but there isn't much there now!!! I just like the clean feeling

LemonLight · 09/08/2023 09:21

I've epilated for years and now the hair is barely noticeable

RedPony1 · 09/08/2023 09:24

Every other day all year

See, I don't understand the face shaving. Since when was peach fuzz unacceptable?
I saw ads on FB for fuzz razors, and a lot of the comments were women berating others for being "too lazy" to shave hair that was not a problem when I was a teen.

Peach fuzz shaving was a thing in the 50s/60s, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe used to do it apparently. I just shave the unwanted hairs on my chin.

I shave my pits when they are going to be seen. But like pp I feel sweatier and smellier when shaved.

dikwad · 09/08/2023 09:29

@Anotherchristianmama No, I simply saw what I looked like with hair and what I looked like without hair and think the former looks terrible!

It is worth it I use a Phillips lumea prestige very pricey but worth it there are different parts for face, underarms, bikini and another I use for legs or arms. It is best on pale skin and dark hair they used to do a trial or money back guarantee.

wehaveeaches · 09/08/2023 09:35

I like them and my underarea to be clean shaven, just feels nicer. I also like to be attractive to men, so I that comes into it but I'm pretty sure I would shave either way given no one sees down there and I still shave.

Drews · 09/08/2023 09:37

Not often. Only once or twice a year if I'm wearing something sleeveless. It feels horrible though I really should just stop altogether and not care what anyone thinks. I think I smell more when I shave.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 09/08/2023 09:38

Mine were never very hairy (fine and blonde) so maybe once a month if I could be arsed. Gave up completely in the 80s. Then menopause has wiped out most of my body hair except for a few rogue ones. Top tip though, don’t use one of those crystal things on your pits, I did last week and took the top layer of skin off. You think you are being very careful just getting rid of the odd ones then you’re putting sudocrem on in place of Mitchum.

SamanthaVimes · 09/08/2023 09:50

I do mine a couple of times a year if I’m getting really dressed up for something (eg a wedding) but otherwise don’t bother. For those occasions it’s absolutely social pressure that makes me do it as I actually think it looks quite sexy with hair.

I feel much cleaner and less sweaty with hair. Every time I shave it reminds me why I don’t do it all the time.

As a teenager I shaved anything from the neck down so I’ve done a complete 180 since then!

whumpthereitis · 09/08/2023 09:52

No, but only because I had electrolysis and got rid of them that way.

Herejusttocomment · 09/08/2023 09:56

I shave my armpits maybe once a week in the winter and every few other days in the summer. It doesn't get too hot here so I usually wear sleeves.
In my 20s before coming to UK it used to be every other day and I spent so much on razors and my pits looked sore most times.

Also I think society is slightly more accepting now of a little armpit stubble or maybe I stopped caring what others think 😂

helpfulperson · 09/08/2023 10:39

Interesting that often the reason given for doing it is feeling fresher and cleaner and yet many people, myself included find they sweat and smell less when not shaving.
