Do you shave your armpits?

Have just done mine for the first time since last summer. I don't care what it looks like, but the humidity where I live has been a killer lately and I will try anything if it makes me feel less sweaty/ makes my antiperspirant work more effectively.

I have not shaved regularly for quite a few years now. In my twenties I pretty much always did though.

What's normal for you?

Is there less pressure on women to shave their underarms now compared to 20 years ago?

The few times I tried hair removal there (not shaving) twenty or more years ago it just made my armpits feel sweatier and smellier and more prone to chafing. The hair is there for good reason and it was only stupid socialisation that made me embarrassed to think of some random seeing it when I was strap-hanging on the tram.

Purplepeaches123 · 08/08/2023 23:58

Yes every other day usually although I could leave it a week and not get much growth.

HappyBinosaur · 08/08/2023 23:58

Every other day all year round.
My legs on the other hand are hardly every shaved unless it’s summer!

Watsername · 08/08/2023 23:59

Only when they can be seen, which is rarely…

Yarsvi · 09/08/2023 00:01

Only when on display which is vanishingly infrequent. Definitely smell much more when shaved.

caringcarer · 09/08/2023 00:07

Every other day in the shower and legs every 4 or 5 days.

Nevermay · 09/08/2023 00:09

never

Floralnomad · 09/08/2023 00:09

I don’t grow hair under my arms

Bananasplitlady · 09/08/2023 00:12

Daily. My 17yo doesn't remove any body hair at all, which (due to the aforementioned societal expectations) I will confess I found a bit odd initially.

Sonolanona · 09/08/2023 00:25

Daily. Legs every other day.
I just prefer it . I use an epilator in summer on my legs but armpits are too painful!

Imsureitsprobablymebut · 09/08/2023 00:25

I no longer have armpit hair as I lasered it off a few years ago. I use to get awful ingrown hairs due to rasering at least once a week, it’s so much better now. Plus, as a possible side effect to the laser use, I don’t sweat as much either.

ToxicBiennial · 09/08/2023 00:27

Epilator every couple of months. That’s it really.

fullbloom87 · 09/08/2023 00:28

I have to everyday. Although if I'm going out in the evening I have to shave it again as it goes stubbly so quick.
I don't personally think hairy pits looks very nice on a women.

SocksAndTheCity · 09/08/2023 00:30

Never. I can't see the point and I have better things to do with my time.

SwordToFlamethrower · 09/08/2023 00:32

Nah, I stopped over a year ago and I haven't looked back.

Feels more womanly and I enjoy one less thing to do.

EveSix · 09/08/2023 00:34

Not much, maybe every other month.
I am convinced I sweat more when I'm clean shaven, and that my armpits smell more without my silky, downy underarm hairs to wick it away.

JaceLancs · 09/08/2023 00:35

Shave once or twice a week as helps the anti perspirant or deodorant work better
no other reason - I live alone and do same in winter when no one sees anyway

Bonfire23 · 09/08/2023 00:36

Once a week or so. I'm not fussed if I have a bit of hair but don't like too much
It's a pain as I have to shave and then use a tiny trimmer for a stupid scar that otherwise sprouts way longer hair than the rest Hmm and can't be reached with a razor

Stopped aong time ago. Now I use sharp scissors & carefully cut the hair as short as it will go. I hated the discomfort after shaving, or the stinging after chemical removal.

SkipHopJumpSplatWallop · 09/08/2023 00:37

I only shave mine if I wear a sleeveless top.

Biscuitandacuppa · 09/08/2023 00:40

Rarely bother, only if I’m wearing a sleeveless top. I don’t shave my legs either but the hairs on my legs are so blonde they are virtually see through!

Rummykitten · 09/08/2023 00:41

@Lindy2 , that would be a game changer for me! Which one did you use?

I have very noticeable hair (dark hair on very fair skin) so hopefully would be a good candidate for this…!

Wax, hot wax always. Shaving is too bristly and scratchy

When you say scratchy, do you mean itchy?

XenoBitch · 09/08/2023 00:43

Yes, about twice a week. I do it to feel a bit cleaner rather than societal pressure.

Seddon · 09/08/2023 00:46

I love seeing confident young women with lush underarm hair, looks so carefree and dare I say sexy.

Unfortunately I can't recreate that look with my sparse and greying stubble so I keep shaving - I'm not religious about it anymore though, once a week maybe. Don't really care if hair is on display occasionally.

I can clearly remember being laughed at and told to shave by my peers when I was doing school sport at about 12.
