"If they don't like barges they should fuck off back to France". 30p Lee Anderson of course, not the BNP. Not the National Front or whatever their current name is. The Chairman of the Conservative Party. Supporters must be so proud. What a statesman. So Churchillian.

So here we are, 23 pages in talking about a barge rather than the fact they the country doesn't work any more. The Tories shouting 'look over there is working brilliantly '. Last week it was ULEZ and 'Green Crap'. Next week it will be something else.
Meanwhile half the country is on strike and getting a GP appointment has become a distant memory. Potentially tens of thousands of people could have their homes repossessed when their mortgage fixes end and the COL crisis trundles on.
But asylum seekers....

The immigration dog whistle always works, sadly. Wonder what the next dog whistle will be?

The Tory Party have become the BNP. Its been allowed to happen slowly so we can all pretend we are still some amazing beacon of tolerance. But the UK is one of the most right wing countries in Europe now. I am ashamed of what we have become.

This.

Climat change is going to increase the amount of migration and yet we have a Prime Minister who wants more climate change, has been an economic migrant to the US himself and wants less migration. And still people try and rationalise supporting him in paying a smaller proprtion of his income in tax than nurses and teachers do.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 07:16

And genuinely people think the answer to this is Starmer and Labour?

It beggars belief.

However bad things are now, with the conservatives fighting to control immigration at the very least, one court case at a time, things will become unimaginably worse under Labour and their open door policy.

Many of us are planning to leave if Labour win, by the time the eco mob have got their way and we are all destitute and cold, schools over crowded due to the closure of private schools, hospitals overrun. Forget women’s rights, the trans lobby have Labour cornered. ULEZ rolled out across the entire country. Immigration running riot, and people like David Lammy reopening the brexit wars. We will finally sell up and leave. It really will be time to call it a day.

It could be a whole lot worse than it is now, believe it or not.

Spot on.

Tories have been in charge for 13 years yet somehow people can still be convinced that they aren't the problem.

Yesterday @Remembermynamealways you were telling us that you did not know what Labour's policies were, may I ask what you have read overnight that now means you know that Labour will be far worse?

As yo your question:

And genuinely people think the answer to this is Starmer and Labour?

The nature of the first past the post system is that only one of the two major parties are likely to ever form a government. Do though feel free to contribute to campaigns to change the electoral system.

I don’t think that’s actually possible.

Worse than the Prime Minister and Chancellor breaking the law and lying about it repeatedly in parliament and elsewhere? Worse than crashing the economy and skoking a cost of living crisis for an ideology?

It would be an amazing effort to be worse, a massive achievement.

Where will you go @Remembermynamealways?

Considering Canada, Australia or New Zealand. My friends are considering US and Canada. We are professionals in an industry in demand, and we can live anywhere. We don’t need to stay here.
Britain under Labour will be an unbearable place to live.
ULEZ will finish off the high streets and towns. Private school closures will mean our children will suffer even more with huge class sizes and very little control in schools.
Keir doesn’t even recognise me or my dds as women and girls!

Dymaxion · 09/08/2023 07:29

So you will be an economic migrant ?

jgw1 · 09/08/2023 07:30

Blossomtoes · 09/08/2023 07:23

I don’t think that’s actually possible.

In one sense the poster is not wrong, we do have to accept that things for many of us (not the super rich like the Prime Minister who pay a lower propoortion of their income in taxes than we do) will get worse for some time to come. That though is a result of not having a functional and interested government now. What we will have though at the start of the next parliament is the hope that having a government that cares will mean things will get better in time. For example the simple act of supporting and consistently praising nurses and teachers rather than berating them, will start to improve the NHS and Education.

You are ill informed and reproducing Labour soundbites.

The government didn’t ‘crash the economy’ the twin issues or the invasion of Ukraine, the pandemic debts have created the impact we are experiencing today, and any party would have faced the same. Together with the decisions by the Bank of England.

Just to introduce some facts to the thread, available studies show that reducing cars leads to revivals in High Streets.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 07:33

We are going to see a mass exodus of the most highly educated professionals in living history of Starmer wins. Trust me.

Not in rural areas which makes up a huge mass of this country. There are no transport services.

The Conservatives think that mass migration is economically beneficial and Labour think they have some God given moral duty to let all the migrants in.

What is going to be a problem is all the calls of manufactured, reminiscent of 1930's is still going to be a problem when Labour win the next election, just as the Tories have become complacent in power, so has a lot of the vocal online left being in opposition.

Tories beat the dead horse of 'last labour government' and flogging the 'no money' joke and sowing the seeds for just the same with the current government leaving us in the shit (which they have) it is reminiscent of the vocal left being proud purveyors of Keynesian economics the day after the tories won despite brown saying they would implement austerity and it being an EU directive, and missing the key factor in Keynesian economics... (many examples on MN)

This situation is not going to go away, and there is going to be a lot of memory holes of calling someone an -ist for opposing the simple solution.

There’s so much push back against policies atm, looking at the link below with Labour’s response to the recent bill they are going to find it tough. They will have opposed any action and their approach will be fairly pointless against rising numbers.

Many are probably loyal to their party, maybe posting, but I’d say a fair amount are not. It’s not going to be pleasant. Pp who mentions Aus, Canada, NZ etc might have the best idea.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 07:36

ULEZ was dreamed up by another metropolitan elite leftie with no idea of life outside of SW1. Same as all the other London Labour policies. They have literally never stepped foot outside of the M25.

It will fast track the county’s decline.

Nobody much. Blair gave him a job as a sop to the unions. Give him his due, he wasn’t racist and never suggested anyone should fuck off back where they came from.

True.
And he did raise the tone of the Labour Party by punching people in the street.

Are you arguing that Liz Truss didn't crash the economy when she was Prime Minister?

I hadn't realised that was in dispute.

Keir Starmer insists a woman is an ‘adult female’ as he says gender self-identification is not ‘right way forward’

The Labour leader has said that he believes a woman is an ‘adult female’ as he was quizzed on gender during a recent interview.

Why an exodus though? Starmer is actually just Tory lite tbh. He is a centrist fence sitter.

Also, can you link to where Labour has said it has an open door migration policy?
