To think this hangover isn’t normal

Wrungover · 06/08/2023 17:34

I went out last night. First time in a very long time. I drank 5 or 6 gin tonics- my friend was on the bar and free pouring them, so they were pretty strong.

I had a small bowl of chips for dinner which has maybe contributed.

I felt quite drunk, then suddenly very drunk. My neighbour drove me home and I don’t remember getting in.

I have been vomiting all day. I can’t even keep down water.

I‘m used to drinking but haven’t ever had a hangover like this.

Am I just an idiot?

I used to get hangovers like this. Excessive acohol, especially on an empty stomach, can really irritate your stomach lining.

Bleurgh. Feel better soon.

Corrag · 06/08/2023 17:37

Well, yes. But most of us have been that idiot from time to time. Are you worried there's more to this? You think you were spiked?

hursty900 · 06/08/2023 17:38

Yep! Did the same at a friends 40th a few years back, not been able to drink to excess since..& I really used to love a drink. I think it damaged my stomach lining.. can't even have 2 glasses without throwing up now. Let that be a lesson to you as they say
Seriously though, hope you feel better soon!

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 06/08/2023 17:38

It could be youve caught a bug. I thought i had a hangover before but it turned out to be noro. However if she was free pouring they could be trebles. You could have had 18 units, and on an empty stomach that's enough to make a lot of people sick. And given you can't remember getting home it's more likely to be that. Sorry OP. Try and get something down you that won't irritate your stomach. Gavuscon or something first. Once I had awful hangover and my mum made me mashed banana and cream which massively helped

Hellocatshome · 06/08/2023 17:40

Free poured gins by a friend would be doubles or triples really so yes on an empty stomach that is going to hit quite hard for most people.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 06/08/2023 17:40

Oh dear, don't worry it sounds like a hangover. Just wanted to say get well soon before the thimble of sherry gang arrive to recommend AA.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 06/08/2023 17:41

You've had six free-poured gin and tonics on an empty stomach - of course you feel awful lol.

They were probably at least doubles if not triples - that's a lot of alcohol.

35965a · 06/08/2023 17:43

Hangovers like that are why I don’t drink anymore. I’d be so ill for over 24 hours after only a few drinks, I can’t deal with it. Lots of water, carbs (when you can) and a couple of aspirin are what you need to ride it out.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2023 17:46

You've had 12-18 gins, easily. With minimal tonic no food and no mention of other liquids. I'm not surprised you feel like shit.

Do you have any reason to be concerned about your neighbour or your friend doing anything?

PinkiOcelot · 06/08/2023 17:48

Ahhh crap. Nothing worse. You have my sympathy.

😂. Are they aligned with the LTB brigade?

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/08/2023 17:54

Just a normal, godawful, free-pour-gin hangover! Sleep if you can.

Was probably a loooooootttt of spirits, a lot more than you realised, on an empty stomach. Your body is reacting as if it’s been poisoned because it has been! You’ll be right tomorrow.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 06/08/2023 17:59

This happened to me a few years ago with rum and I still to this day cannot remember coming home.

I wasn't an excessive drinker but def changed my drinking habits as a result. Having a meal, pouring my own, knowing when to leave etc.

Chin up, I promise you will feel better tomorrow.

imactuallyfine · 06/08/2023 18:10

well the worst hangover I ever had in my 20+ years of drinking has been from gin. It floored me the entire day. I can never ever drink it again.

DrManhattan · 06/08/2023 18:20

Love that you are looking for excuses lol.

I used to be like oh no its not a hangover its food poisoning/ alcohol poisoning/ being spiked / a bug etc etc

It's alcohol

FrivolousTreeDuck · 06/08/2023 18:24

My worst ever hangover was from gin!

GoodChat · 06/08/2023 18:25

Gin is the work of the devil.

Witchbitch20 · 06/08/2023 18:27

Gin hangovers are fierce!

Hope you feel more yourself soon.

Tartareistasty · 06/08/2023 18:28

People need to eat before or at least during drinking. Tis' the life saving rule

Italianasoitis · 06/08/2023 18:28

Sounds like one of my hangovers. Bowl of chips plus 5 or 6 free flow gins sounds about right. Is your period due? That makes hangovers worse. I once spent the day vomiting after having had 4 pints of Guinness the night before.

I haven't drank in nearly 5 years as my hangovers were so terrible.

ladeluge · 06/08/2023 18:31

You'll be ok tomorrow. Did you enjoy yourself? That's the main thing, the penance comes after that.

greenacrylicpaint · 06/08/2023 18:32

as big a glas of water & a banana or slice of toast.
go for a walk. fresh air and exercise will help metabolise the alcohol.

Createausername1970 · 06/08/2023 18:33

Worst hangover ever was on gin. I understood why it was called "mothers ruin". It went down far too easily, and I felt so bad afterwards and also so bloody miserable for a day or two. Felt like I needed a little drink to cheer myself up

saltinesandcoffeecups · 06/08/2023 18:38

In my younger days I would get the typical bad headache feeling generally lousy hangovers. Then as I got older I started getting the OMG I want to die hangovers like you describe on the rare overindulgence episodes.

I think it’s God’s way of reminding me that I’m not 20 anymore and to drink in moderation.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/08/2023 18:39

You've drunk at least a quarter bottle of neat gin there, if not more.

It's just a monstrous hangover.

Never trust 'friends' free pouring spirits.
