Not my DC but what would you think if someone you knew had their Dc 3.5 years old ears pierced?

I’d think it was their child and their decision. Affects me in no way whatsoever and so not something I feel the need to care about.

EatYourVegetables · 05/08/2023 21:35

I’d be thinking what I’ll have for lunch later that day, as this is none of my business.

MiMiPies · 05/08/2023 21:36

I personally think three years old isn't old enough to consent or can properly look after piercings, even worse if they took them to Claire's however it's not my child so nothing to do with me.

FoodFann · 05/08/2023 21:37

Nothing to do with me

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 05/08/2023 21:37

Nothing, because it's not something I particularly care about.

Desdemonadryeyes · 05/08/2023 21:37

Child abuse. But I’m a cantankerous judgy old cow.

Ireallydonotknow96 · 05/08/2023 21:37

True. I was just curious as she says she can feel people judging her and staring when they are out. I thought most places had a higher age limit now for ear piercings. I think one near to me will not pierce them until the child is 7

Do you want us to all slag off your mate?

Neyon · 05/08/2023 21:38

Not something I would do, but for better or worse, it's up to their parents. I'd probably think "that's a shame they didn't wait for the child to be old enough to decide", but wouldn't dwell on it.

Molehillminnie · 05/08/2023 21:39

Personally I think age 10 is about right as the child can understand and consent. Before that I find it cruel and unnecessary.

Clefable · 05/08/2023 21:39

I think it's tacky, gross and irresponsible, but I wouldn't offer that opinion out loud as it's none of my business. I would definitely think it though.

Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets · 05/08/2023 21:39

My dd's were 4 and 5. Bugged me for a year. Told them it would hurt! They turned and cleaned them under supervision. Never had any problems at all. Older dd never wanted hers done til about 11!!

You're right in that most reputable piercers won't pierce children that young.

Elle200 · 05/08/2023 21:39

I'd think the parents were cruel. I just hate seeing piercings in babies and young children.

Sunnysal · 05/08/2023 21:41

It's done to new borns here in Spain so perfectly normal. They do it in the ward at the hospital

Desdemonadryeyes · 05/08/2023 21:43

To boys?

i don’t agree with it even if it is cultural as I don’t think you should make permanent changes to a child’s body without consent. i don’t really agree with it below age 6/7.

op, if my friend had a 3 year old with ears pierced I would think this in my head but I wouldn’t say anything because it’s none of my business and not against the law

alszq · 05/08/2023 21:44

I'd judge them, piercing an unnecessary hole in your child is gross.

I would also think this.

Yerroblemom1923 · 05/08/2023 21:49

I'd judge. Far too young and looks tacky as.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/08/2023 21:50

She can feel people judging her because she chose to poke sharp metal through her young child's earlobes to put decorations into them. It's fucking disgraceful.

I'd judge too.

This. I know its common, but so is a lot of questionable parenting. You're causing pain and introducing the risk of infection completely unnecessarily. I had mine done when I was old enough to ask and my daughter will have hers done when she wants them done as well.

Siriusmuggle · 05/08/2023 21:57

I’d know that she hadn’t taken them to a reputable piercer as no decent one would pierce a child below the age of 8 as an absolute minimum.

mistermagpie · 05/08/2023 21:58

I'd judge (and I have 12 piercings myself so am not averse to the idea in general) because a 3.5 year old is not old enough to consent or be responsible about looking after their piercings.

I have a 3.5 year old and there's no way in hell I'd get her ears pierced, it's totally unnecessary and it's bad enough taking her for vaccinations, where there isn't an alternative to sticking needles in her.

TweetyMcTweetFace · 05/08/2023 21:59

Yeah I judge this. I think when they can make a proper decision, understand it will hurt and how to care for the piercing, then they're old enough.

I didn't get mine done until I was 25 and I hated it! So bloody painful. Everyone told me it doesn't hurt. It does!
