To ask would you buy a used bra?

I'm trying to be more environmentally conscious and buying clothes off of vinted and weird question I know but there's loads of brass on vinted and I was talking to DH about it and he thinks it's a bit weird but at the same time .. they're just boobs?

Like I've bought some dresses off there and who knows they could have worn them braless or whatever.

I just can't decide how weird it is, so would you buy second hand bras?

Obviously knickers are another matter, those are still being bought new! Grin

No

Wendysfriend · 05/08/2023 19:37

Absolutely not, not after a programme I seen years ago about the yeast infections that gather in the underwire, no amount of washing got rid of that shit. I actually binned all my bras after watching it. 🤢🤢

itsmyp4rty · 05/08/2023 19:37

Yes but only for something nice/special that doesn't look like it's been worn much.

Thesearmsofmine · 05/08/2023 19:37

Only if it was clearly new and maybe just tried on or whatever. Never knickers or tights though!

user14728317878988 · 05/08/2023 19:37

Yes I would and have done. My two favourite bras were bought as part of a used bundle.

gogomoto · 05/08/2023 19:38

No, you can buy new very reasonably from supermarkets, even larger sizes (you may need to order online eg at Sainsbury's)

bluejelly · 05/08/2023 19:38

Yes. A good wash and why not?

JonahAndTheSnail · 05/08/2023 19:39

I would think it depends how old it is. If someone bought an expensive bra, wore it a couple of times, then decided to sell it on that wouldn't be an issue. I'm guilty of mostly buying cheap bras and wearing them way longer than I probably should though, so it's never occurred to me to Vinted them!

NEmama · 05/08/2023 19:39

I would in specific model and size but only if in excellent condition as mine are a fortune new due to being a ridiculous size.

NEmama · 05/08/2023 19:40

@gogomoto not my size you can't

Moveoverdarlin · 05/08/2023 19:41

I probably would as not many people would sell an old, used bra, but I bet loads of people put new with tags bras on there as it’s the sort of thing you buy and forget about or buy in the wrong size. I’d probably only go for a ‘new’ one from there though.

JanglyBeads · 05/08/2023 19:42

There's a massive trade in the fab Molke bras via the Fb group!

Although they are less delicate fabric than usual so feel less "intimate", I suppose.

I have many secondhand ones.

QuacketyQuack · 05/08/2023 19:42

I did, bought breastfeeding bras

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/08/2023 19:42

If you buy used jumpers and t shirts etc how do you know the previous owner hasn't worn them braless? The same skin would be touching the item. But my boob skin wouldn’t be touching it unless I too went bra-less.

Vettrianofan · 05/08/2023 19:44

No, I wouldn't.

vestedinterests · 05/08/2023 19:44

Yes and I have done but would draw a line at pj's

That's true! Good point although depends where their boobs sat haha you might be much more perky so might get a bit of boob skin Grin

I'm having a nosy through and a lot are mostly new with tags or worn once which I don't think is too bad really.

I kinda thought the well worn ones might have been for a different audience but I don't know!

I think it's just one of those things that's weird for no reason

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 05/08/2023 19:45

No I wouldn’t for two reasons 1) makes me feel uncomfortable as it’s underwear 2) I would think usage would mean that it’s lost some structure so wouldn’t be as healthy

Roseyleaf · 05/08/2023 19:46

I would.
When you try on a bra in a shop how do you know the very same bra wasn't tried on by someone else fifteen minutes earlier?

I wish!
I sometimes buy new with/without tags off eBay or ones that have been tried on/worn lightly

MariaVT65 · 05/08/2023 19:49

Hi Op, I used to work as a bra fitter.

The issue with bras is that body heat and washing will alter the size of the bra, loosen the elastic, and potentially even damage the wires. The issue for me is not to do with skin, but the fit of the bra possibly no longer being right for you or giving you enough support.

If the seller has tried on the bra or worn it once or twice, then fine. But if they’ve actually used it as a proper bra, I wouldn’t.

Rathouse · 05/08/2023 19:51

No. I can get cheap bras though as I'm small busted.

Jellycatrabbit · 05/08/2023 19:55

wutheringkites · 05/08/2023 19:33

Don't you need to try on a bra before buying to see if it fits?

It's literally the only item of clothing that I ALWAYS have to try on first.

I have sold a lot of bnwt and worn once bras on Vinted for this exact reason . . .

Nursing bras sell fairly quickly and the others seem to go eventually so someone must be buying them!

MarathonBarbie · 05/08/2023 19:56

I bought a second hand breastfeeding sports bra on eBay, mainly because I couldn’t find what I wanted new though, new would always be my default for bras.

limons · 05/08/2023 19:56

No, nor would I buy second hand swim wear or underwear, bras lose elasticity anyway, they're not like a pair of jeans that can last years of regular use.
