I've a feeling we will get very far if not win.
Thrashed China 6-1.
Why the lack of interest?

@ScentlessAprentice yes I've got the message so much underlying spite/aggression in these comments though. Sorry I bothered you all. As you were.

Because we aren't falling over ourselves to agree with you it's aggressive dd spiteful?

We have opinions! And you asked,so..

I’m an equal opportunities hater of football. Don’t care who’s playing, I’m just not fussed!

This. I don't care who's playing, I'm still not watching it.

CandyflossKaren · 01/08/2023 20:45

Oh, and 'sisterhood'?

Jesus!!

Floatlikeafeather2 · 01/08/2023 20:45

Geranuimgal · 01/08/2023 20:20

It's more than just football though, it represents the skill of the women of this country. I just thought more females would be behind them.

They might well be behind them but I'm not sure this is the right place for it. There is a Sport board, isn't there? I'm thoroughly enjoying it - I've thought, all my life I wasn't interested in football but the women's game is so different I almost think it should have a different name to set it apart - but I wouldn't come on AIBU to talk about it. What would be the AIBU/AINBU question?

It's not really spite and aggression though is it?

I think you've just come across as a bit silly with your 'sisterhood' comment and a few others.

I've been following it a bit (as no doubt many have) and I wish them well, but that doesn't mean I'm ever likely to start a thread about it.

Tarantella6 · 01/08/2023 20:47

I don't like any sport really, I'm only interested in things like 100m sprint where it's clear who has won and it's over quickly! Anything involving a ball holds nothing for me, unless it also involves Olivier Giroud 😁

Boomboom22 · 01/08/2023 20:47

Football is still boring even when it's women 😴

ladyvivienne · 01/08/2023 20:48

The media pushing the fact a lot of the players are lesbians doesn't help. Zero interest in footballers and even less in other peoples sexual orientation. Even my daughter asked,Mum do i have to be a lesbian if I want to play football? (she's 9)

Probably would help if the media focused on their football skills rather than off the pitch in my mind.

Headlines like this just completely put me off watching. Like Who cares!

Can't believe there isnt more of an interest on here for the womens world cup

ScentlessAprentice · 01/08/2023 20:38

So women are supposed to blindly support any sport played by other women, on the basis that we all have vaginas? Yeah I'm not doing that.

Now I love football whoever is playing! But 100% this!

gingerguineapig · 01/08/2023 20:49

I am not interested in football.

I follow athletics and swimming instead.

Daleksatemyshed · 01/08/2023 20:49

If it helps @Geranuimgal I have nothing to do with football usually, the only matches I watch are the England women's team. They're doing well and I hope they will do us proud

honeylulu · 01/08/2023 20:50

I'm interested in and excited by it! It was the first thing me and H talked about when I came in from work. I'm not a big sports fan generally but I really get into the big ticket stuff like world cup, Olympics etc. I watch the mens and womens football and enjoy both. I'm really pleased womens football is getting a higher profile.

ClaraThePigeon · 01/08/2023 20:50

Mumsnet hates football, too working class

Personally I have no interest in any sport whether it's football or the Henley Regatta.

TerfTalking · 01/08/2023 20:51

I detest football, I wish the women all the best but I’m not watching bloody football. Ever. Irrespective of the players.

megletthesecond · 01/08/2023 20:52

I've been watching but could only watch today as I was WFH.
The match times aren't exactly condusive for mass viewing.

Laiste · 01/08/2023 20:52

Do you enthusiastically follow ALL women's sport OP? Or just one's when England happens to be doing well at it ...

Purplebunnie · 01/08/2023 20:54

yogasaurus · 01/08/2023 20:14

I just can’t get into womens football, sorry.

Me too, made a point of watching the Euros and was bored rigid. Now women's rugby is a different thing and I will watch anytime I can but then I love rugby

SerenChocolateMuncher · 01/08/2023 20:54

Football is boring. Men's football is bad enough, but women's football is even worse. I'm sure OP doesn't watch or participate in sports or activities she finds boring, just because a stranger on Mumsnet gets upset if she doesn't or to support the "sisterhood".

ArcticBells · 01/08/2023 20:55

Football is even worse with women playing it

The media pushing the fact a lot of the players are lesbians doesn't help.

God are they? The media i mean. I hadn't picked up on this, but how pathetic.

Plays straight into the hands of all the hilarious misogynists jokes doesn't it? Bet they're all lesbians ha ha ha ...... 🙄🙄🙄 Christ.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 01/08/2023 20:58

I like mens football because I was brought up with it. I think the problem with the women's game is that there's not much history yet and it's hard to get too excited about it. I hope they do well though

abyssofwoah · 01/08/2023 20:59

My country’s not in it but good luck to the England women. I think it’s great it’s getting more coverage. My DD plays football and it’s massive that she can turn on the telly and see amazing international women’s football. It blows her mind that when I was at school it was only an option for the boys.

Magneta · 01/08/2023 21:04

Nope, couldn't care less about football.

Plus too busy today watching the women's cricket. I hope you've been following it too OP - it's not just cricket it's about the sisterhood.

Womens football was very popular at one time sorry can't link but see below

"Why was there a ban on women's football?
In 1920, one club, Dick Kerr Ladies, sold more than 53,000 tickets and many fans were left waiting outside the ground. However, in 1921, the Football Association in England banned women's football. "The game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged," was the reason given.

So there is a lot of history in that it was banned and now is being played again and with such success
