I've a feeling we will get very far if not win.
Thrashed China 6-1.
Why the lack of interest?

Lol hope none of the players are reading this thread.

Not everyone likes spectator sport.

Some football fans aren’t interested in women’s football.

Not all UK countries have a team in it.

The BBC and Sky Sports are pushing it hard but I’m not sure how many viewers care, particularly.

FrenchandSaunders · 01/08/2023 20:12

There’s a thread on it

And I'm on it.

isthewashingdryyet · 01/08/2023 20:31

Which World Cup are you on about, I am enjoying them both.

The Netball is so skilful, and the football just awesome

Geranuimgal · 01/08/2023 20:31

@Parky04 thanks for the link. The comments on this thread have made me sad.

I am currently in Oz to watch the football with my daughter, she has played and supported womens football for years, we also went to some Euros matches and to Lyon in 2019. I haven’t been to a match yet as only arrived a couple of days ago but she has (she incorporated the football into gap year travels). She has also met quite a few young women in hostels, over for the football.

I have been wondering why no interest on MN, as we know quite a few people back home interested in the WWC and there was a Euros thread last year.

Maybe time of year, maybe it being so far away and therefore morning matches in UK.

Sad that many will watch men but not women, I started watching mens football nearly 50yrs ago but enjoy womens football more now.

We are hoping England can go far, we will see them play in Sydney if they get to quarters or further!

LakieLady · 01/08/2023 20:32

After Wimbledon and the Ashes, I feel I've rather OD'd on sport lately.

And I'm not a football fan, although I find the women's game less dull than when the men play. I think it might be because they don't spend as much time lying on the ground pretending to be hurt.

Geranuimgal · 01/08/2023 20:33

@Vickythevan63 so jealous. Have a wonderful time!

Netball World Cup? I so agree!!

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/08/2023 20:35

There are enough people who support football, for me not to bother. There is football on TV virtually the whole year round, sometimes on three main terrestrial channels, as well as Sky channels.

I have not the slightest interest in it, whether male or female, but I acknowledge that others do.

It’s got nothing to do with the sisterhood. It’s simply a question of not enjoying the sport.

Mindymomo · 01/08/2023 20:36

I’m sure if the games were on of an evening, there would be way more interest. We are lucky that DH and I don’t work so have watched a few games and definitely try and watch the England games, the England game today was very good.

isthewashingdryyet · 01/08/2023 20:37

Just watched England vs Fiji. Excellent game.

Datafan55 · 01/08/2023 20:37

I've made a point of watching it for years, and am definitely following this one.
Even when I didn't watch it, I used to record it to show the demand.
The time difference isn't helping, I guess.

MadisonAvenue · 01/08/2023 20:19

I can’t get into women’s football.

I’ve got a season ticket for a Premier League men’s team and love going to games but I’ve no interest in the women’s teams.

Me too

Geranuimgal · 01/08/2023 20:25

Wow well so much for women coming together. The sisterhood is alive and well here-or maybe not 😬

So women are supposed to blindly support any sport played by other women, on the basis that we all have vaginas? Yeah I'm not doing that.

UndercoverCop · 01/08/2023 20:39

Mumsnet hates football, too working class

lljkk · 01/08/2023 20:39

We (my household, mostly male and not footie players ourselves) is following the footie World Cup closely.
We are super excited about it.
I was talking to someone I just met this evening about today's game, both of us with great excitement (my conversation partner was a 70-something male).

I hid the other MN thread because ... long story, but it's part of curating my feed away from the most annoying MN obsessions. I hide threads that go on certain tangents. Unfortunately, as soon as OP said "sisterhood" she started veering into the area I am trying to curate out of my feed. So maybe this isn't the place for me to be a fan, either. Too bad if so.

Great game wasn't it?!

Geranuimgal · 01/08/2023 20:40

@ScentlessAprentice yes I've got the message so much underlying spite/aggression in these comments though. Sorry I bothered you all. As you were.

It's more than just football though, it represents the skill of the women of this country. I just thought more females would be behind them.

Honestly, for me the reason I’m not interested in watching is that for me it’s not “more than just football”. I wish the women’s team well and will probably switch on the final if they get that far. Otherwise football isn’t of interest to me no matter who is playing. I’ve been following the netball though where England have smashed it to get to the semi finals. I don’t judge people who haven’t as not caring about the skill of women in the country as a whole.

And a group of women is women, not females.

Wiccan · 01/08/2023 20:41

Nothing to do with sisterhood. Just don't like football .

Alargeoneplease89 · 01/08/2023 20:41

They are amazing! Love the women's world cup more then the mens - they show more passion and pride.

Don't worry mumsnet are too busy going crazy over Barbie movie and empowerment 😂

DappledThings · 01/08/2023 20:42

I have no interest in football full stop. I am watch and follow both the men and the women in cricket. The England women's cricket team have been very successful in recent years. Do you follow them too OP or is it only football is it compulsory for all women to be excited about?

Laiste · 01/08/2023 20:43

MelonsOnSaleAgain · 01/08/2023 20:12

I’m an equal opportunities hater of football. Don’t care who’s playing, I’m just not fussed!

Yup.
