To ask how much annual leave you have left?

popgoesthecat2 · 31/07/2023 17:54

We are 7 months through the year and have 5 months left of this annual leave year (assuming yours runs jan - dec.

My annual entitlement is 26 days plus bank holidays. I have taken 10, have 8 booked and 8 left to book. I can carry a week over.

My manager thinks having 8 outstanding days to book is a lot at this point of the year, but if I carry 5 over I only have 3 really.

How many days do you have left to book at this point/ what is normal?

I have a week left to get me through to April. Eeek.

APurpleSquirrel · 31/07/2023 20:45

Holiday year runs Jan-Dec.
I get 15 days (not including bank holidays) as I only work 3 days a week. I can carry days over into the following year if needed.
So far I've taken or booked 9 days off (next bit of holiday is last week of August/beginning of September).
I've still got 6 days left to see me through Christmas, half term & any other odd days I want/need to take. But DH & I share the holidays & PIL provide childcare in the holidays for us too.
As it stands I'll take maybe 2-3 days off at Christmas, possibly 1-2 at half term & see what else crops up, otherwise I might carry a day into next year.

Seriously? I’ve never known a country so full of holiday takers. Why?

Are you asking why people take paid time off work? Time they are entitled to take? Really?

Zanatdy · 31/07/2023 20:47

I carried 9, and get 30, plus flexi so I’ve still got 20 days left and have had 2wks in June and I’m having 2wks now, and 1.5wks end of Aug. I worked an extra 40hrs one week so have used that for some time off. I do want to use a bit more in September / October as it runs out end of February and don’t want to be using it up in winter

dullandgrey · 31/07/2023 20:50

1 day to get me through the end of the year. Luckily I'm part time though and will be taking maternity leave possibly early.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 31/07/2023 21:25

I’m amazed how many people carry over leave. I use every minute of mine every year and buy 10 days more

Seriously? You have to ask why people take time off work when they get paid the same as if they were at work?

I love my job but I also love being off work

LBOCS2 · 31/07/2023 21:34

I'm on leave at the moment and at the end of this week I'll have taken 15 days and have 10 left. I'm taking a week of those at the end of August/beginning of September, and then another week in October. We close between Christmas and the NY.

chubley · 31/07/2023 22:04

Aug - end July, so new leave year starts tomorrow! Carrying over 2 days (same as I did last year, we are allowed upto 5) and have bought 5, so will have 37 plus BH and Christmas closure

I love summer time off. Taking 9-10 days in August. Had 1 week and 1 day in June, same in July Usually only take 10 days between early Sept and end May as we do get a good break at Christmas.

JaceLancs · 31/07/2023 22:26

I get 30 days plus BH
I have had 3 lots of leave totalling 10 days
I have 3 x 1 week holidays or time off booked before Xmas and that will give me 5 days to carry forward as I like to have a bit of a safety net

FabFitFifties · 31/07/2023 22:27

April to April, 3 weeks left

dudsville · 31/07/2023 22:29

I take a week or two 4 times a year. I don't like to go more than 12 weeks between breaks.

brunettemic · 31/07/2023 22:31

I’d say 8 days left now is fine. I have an informal agreement with my team that they need to give me as a minimum the amount of notice equal to the time they’re having off. Works well and 99/100 they give far more.

@SleepingStandingUp One of the joys of my job. Tiny team, and holidays need to be booked around our sector's conference season.

Always a challenge to fit them in 😊

Ah but does tiny team mean noone else can book a day off from mid Dec cos you're off solidly?

@bluekartan so do you refuse to use your holiday entitlement? Why wouldn't u not enjoy time off to relax, travel, spend time with loved one? God I miss annual leave

MintJulia · 01/08/2023 05:15

@SleepingStandingUp No, if we both want time off, it just means we need to prepare all the work to auto-run on those days, and then one of us (usually me) is on call for anything urgent.

But we try to agree holidays between us. He doesn't have dcs and I do so I normally want school hols, and he wants to go when it's less expensive.

It's quite friendly. Not normally a problem.

Stopsnowing · 01/08/2023 05:38

I have seven days left which I don’t think is a lot if you have to factor in child care and Christmas. I can also carry over.

SD1978 · 01/08/2023 05:47

Currently 10- 11 weeks of annual leave, haven't taken any in over 18 months. Able to carry it all over although they don't like you having that amount, but have had no reason to take it, so haven't bothered 'wasting' it- also part time which is why I haven't bothered.

NatMoz · 01/08/2023 05:50

Mine is April -March

If i was full time I'd get 30 days plus 3 at Christmas but I'm part time compressed so it's a bit more complicated...i get 18 days plus 3 at Christmas.

So far I've taken 6 with another 9 booked (6 in September, 3 in October) leaving me with 3 for childcare/to carry over. I try and take 0 annual leave Jan to June due to the bank holidays.

My work also offers a week (pro rata) special leave which i may have to use if my toddler is sick in the winter and sent home from nursery

mumlovesvodka · 01/08/2023 06:07

Jan to dec here, have booked all bar 2 as company policy is to do so

NothingWrongButTheFire · 01/08/2023 06:16

Leave year runs Jan to Dec.

29 days total. I have taken 15.5 of them.

1.5 days booked in Aug

7 days booked in Dec

5 days left to book.

MamaDollyorJesus · 01/08/2023 06:57

Leave year runs April to March.

I have 3.5 days left to book which I'll probably carry over.

Have a 3.5 days off this week & the bank holiday at end of august.

Couple of days booked off in October, day off for Xmas shopping in December, off for a week at Christmas & have a long weekend booked off in March.

I try to take a few days off every second month or so rather than take weeks at a time off but I've no school holidays to cover & neither does anyone else in my team so there's no fight over getting specific weeks.

ivykaty44 · 01/08/2023 07:03

i pick my own time schedule, so can take as much time off as I want or need.

I changed my work so I could do this as didn’t want to be restricted by having to apply for annual leave etc

i have already had well over 35 days this calendar year

ManAboutTown · 01/08/2023 07:05

I get 25 excluding bank holidays- taken 5 so far with another 10 coming up in September. That leaves another 10 - 3 will be Christmas / New Year so still another7 to sort out.

I've lost count of the number of days leave I haven't used over the years

Lovegossip · 01/08/2023 07:07

I have 6 days booked in September plus another 5 days

Ours runs Jan to December but we are allowed to carry 5 days over as well as buy extra holidays if needed
